I did think this was the rules thread and not the new rules thread so thanks for clarifying.
Comprehension is a good thing 👍🏼

SEC [11]. DRAWN FINALS

In case of a drawn finals game, for all finals matches other than the Grand Final the Home team will be deemed the winner.

In case of a drawn Grand Final, the match up will be replayed until an outright winner is found.

Changes
  • SEC 11 added - Drawn finals will result in the home team advancing for all finals games with the exception of the grand final.

Is there a particular reason why this rule has been implemented? I can't say that any club would be prepared to lose a final via a draw because their opposition finished higher than them on the ladder. I understand the practicality of this in amateur sporting competitions where games can't be replayed on the day or the following week due to various restraints but we are talking about a computer simulated fantasy football competition where results can be produced relatively quickly. A drawn final could theoretically be between two teams separated by only a few percent when the much more logical solution is to simulate the game until a definitive result has been reached.

Or, more in the spirit of a random game, the last/first team to score a goal wins the draw.

Or, prior to the game the two captains nominate a teammate each and whoever scores the highest DT points wins the game for their team.... and gets carried off the field like the El Paso girl.

This is absurd and no further comment is needed other than Kennedy Parker alerting the league that he has removed such laws.

Because home teams deserve an advantage in finals by the virtue of finishing higher than their opponents, if the only ladder positions that are differentiated from one another are 4th / 5th and 8th / 9th then the vast majority of games going into the final round of the H&A would be dead rubbers.

We want to move in a direction which makes the league more similar to a realistic footy competition like the AFL rather than a random number generator spitting out random results.

I agree. Please move the incorrect entry of home/away sides to the resim section of SEC [10].

I said that we aim to make the league more similar to a realistic footy competition like the AFL.

Contradictory rules and seemingly arbitrary policies are a part of promoting the realism.

Oh dear! That is also a handy way to cover errors. Still it is good you and Mang are responding to queries.

The Adminship is getting off to an interesting start.

Why be like those AFL hacks? The quirkiness of the sim, the league, the teams, the rules is what's made the SFA the SFA.

The home side has already had the advantage of playing at their home ground.

If they still couldn’t get the job done, the visiting team should be the one that advances.

The sim does not allocate any home ground advantage. Home ground is simply there for aesthetic purposes.

Making rules for other finals and having another set of rules for a Grand Final makes little sense. All finals matches that end in a draw should be replayed, this is the fairest and most equitable solution for everyone involved. You're trying to find a fix for something that isn't broken and has worked perfectly fine for 33 seasons.

So what you're saying is you are trying to make the SFA more like the AFL by implementing a rule the AFL has never used in the 32 seasons that it has been called the AFL and the previous 93 seasons where it was known as the VFL, a rule which the AFL has likely never even considered and has no intention of ever implementing?

At the end of the day, the game is a fantasy football simulator based on the game of Australian football. There are certainly things that should be more like how the AFL is at the moment and a lot of that is related to the commentary and the way the game is played from a statistical point of view to match the style of play generated today amongst other things as well, including the statistics involved (disposals per player, etc). But implementing a rule which has no bearing to the AFL at all and has never been used by that particular competition to try and fix an issue that never existed in the first place is something that makes no sense at all.

This is like the time the East Side Hawks rebranded to the East Side Phoenix because somehow they believed that people thought they were too closely linked to the Hawthorn Hawks, despite literally no one ever saying such absurd things and it not being a thing.

Good times.

Just when I thought the removal of gotcha rules would dampen the spirit of the board, Hate and Ljp86 emerge from the shadows to be a voice of reason. Never change, Sweet FA.

It is the SFA now

4D) Free Agency

Off-Season

Free agency occurs between seasons from the grand final to squad submission date. Free agents may only be signed with permission. Player movement between clubs is unrestricted with permission of the player.

Players who are new to the league signed during the offseason are required to either make a post on the main Sweet FA forum confirming their participation with their club before officially being added to the squad.

Any player movement not specified in the rules is not considered legal. In the event of uncertainty, the club must contact the administrator for consideration with the committee.

Kennedy Parker I believe we have several ineligible players listed in squads this season.

The following players have not met the listing criteria and I trust you'll throw the book at their teams:
