It was weagles. Nobody cares.
I hate this attitude of ‘it was against a shit side so we don’t get to give players their flowers’

I was huge on trying to move Berry on at the end of last year, but so far this year (including the sub games, to my eye) he’s improved both his ground level cleanliness and his ability to get uncontested ball - the game against the Weagles was just his first full shot at it

Hopefully he can keep it up against better teams

Really hope Berry keeps performing and stays in the side. You'd think he's overtaken Matt Crouch by now right?

He’s definitely more dynamic than Crouch. Even tried to take a couple of hangers on Sunday, which is something Matt hasn’t done in 11 1/2 seasons haha

Just wait till he shows his supreme hops now he's getting his confidence up....Sam has serious hops which we haven't seen much of yet...but it's there make no mistake. 94cm is serious hops and ticks off both the burst speed and tank.

HIGHLIGHTED TESTING RESULTS:

Victorian Draft Combine:

2km time trial:
6:10 minutes
Running vertical leap (R/L): 81/94
20m sprint: 3.02 seconds

Yes, this week.

He just needs to keep doing that. Guess we'll see as there isn't anyone else (Draper maybe?) who will take his position for the next 5 games.

Yep, precisely. And I still saw poor skills at times. Imagine that under more intensity and pressure. Far from convinced.

He was pretty good (under relatively little pressure) but his one-two handball that completely missed Rankine was a shocker. Didn't do it at the right time, then panicked and missed the target. Just little things like that are the difference between a clean I50 entry and hack kick.

I've liked what Berry has done since returning the side, but it feels like we can carry a maximum of two of Peatling, Berry and Crouch, and Peatling is streets ahead right now. Will the club opt to keep Crouch in the SANFL and play Berry? I struggle to imagine they will.

Other than not liking it, do you have any reasonable argument against weighting how you judge players with more emphasis on how they perform under actual pressure?

Way to be selective

Like I said later in that post, hopefully he can keep it up against better sides, obviously it’s not super clear at the moment whether he can for a whole game, but surely we can at least acknowledge that last game was the best Berry has looked?

He almost took a hanger against the Eagles. First time I recall him doing that too.

Sam's last couple of full games in round 23 & 24 against the Swans and Power in 2024 were pretty good as well.

Swans game he was good, Power game he was very fumbly

Thankfully he looks to have improved that part of his game this year, so far. Will be the main thing to monitor against the harder matchups in the next three weeks

not convinced but hope can continue on with it , I think the midfield needs the extra rotation
I'm of similar thinking.

Needs to be given a good run over the next month, including against better opposition to see whether he has what it takes on a regular basis.

I was also in the camp of trading him last year. Not because I didn’t think he could play, I just thought he was surplus and probably someone we could get value for.

This year he’s been really impressive as sub. I thought that seeing him do it for a full game with all that comes with that would be a test and he passed with flying colours on the weekend.

However, you can’t ignore that the opposition was very weak. He needs to produce for a full game against quality opposition now.

He has taken each opportunity and delivered thus far so credit to him, and I think he provides much better balance to the side then Crouch does.

100% we can only play 2 of the 3, and Peatling's not going anywhere (nor should he). Peatling also got a lot more versatility, so it's Berry or Crouch. I hope for Berry's sake he can kick on with this form. He deserves a few games without the vest.

Nicks has done it before. Our midfield has looked significantly better without Crouch this year. If Berry keeps this up, he should be doing it again.
