Mitchell is a classy player, but I'd pick Lenny every time.

I think Hayes is overrated and Mitchell is a better footballer than him. I picked a bad time to do it because Hayes is in his career best form and is still currently playing matches for the year.

I wont sell Mitchell and say things like the things he does around the packs are freakish or that he is a more polished footballer than Hayes, because I shouldn't have to.

Hayes is more damaging with his foot and is better overhead, They are both pretty much similar in their clearance work with Mitchell marginally ahead, i dont know how many goals each other kick but i would assume not too many.

Hayes is a better asset to his team and a better footballer in my opinion.

Any particular reasons? Strengths?

I reckon Mitchell is coming off a poor season, so not sure he'll stack up against Hayes this year. Hayes has been outstanding this year. Only a recent convert to Hayes...he's a bloke who looks like he's got forever to dispose of the ball.

But for all Mitchell's faults (according to those in here who rate him so badly), he's a premiership captain, so he's got leadership on field, which can't be understated.

When he's on (in my opinion only) he's a better player than Hayes. It cannot be understated how important he is to the Hawks midfield, getting the hardball out, and the battering he cops contest after contest. Very quick hands and a good kick. Not brilliant overhead, but not really something that hurts us, as he's in close.

Hayes' first quarter and a bit on Saturday was as good as any quater played in this years finals series. Really got his hands dirty and gave the Saints the lift they needed.

I will buck the trend and vote for Mitchell. Love the way he can use the ball so well off both feet and brings his teammates into the game with his hands. Nothing against Lenny, but I think that Mitchell shades him slightly.

Biased of course - Mitchell's the better player, but it's very close - certainly closer than the media has interpreted Hayes (at least until this season).

Mitchell is as good/arguably better as an inside midfielder.
Hayes is the better tackler/defensive player.
Mitchell has shown of late that he can also play an outside, link/disposal type role. His disposal skills are very good (handball still elite) which is a big advantage.

Neither are quick, but both run all day (and night) long.

Mitchell is a tad overrated, I like him sweeping behind the play more than actually being a clearance midfielder.
