Who's taken him and the gap in front of him each game? Geelong sure as shit weren't doing it.

And I suppose Richmond weren't either?

Jones' goals on the weekend: two big contested pack marks. One where he pushed up past the 50 (Reid struggles if he has to do this) and kicked a long goal. I missed his fourth.

But yeah, nobody was taking the gap in front of him. Except for those times when he stood on their head.

A pack forming and a loose defender blocking his leads aren't the same thing

Look, Jones has had the better year so far, I'm happy to admit that, but I think your joyus jumping up and down "told yas" on the back of a five game sample, especially given it currently the exception rather than the norm, is a bit premature.

I think right now jones is playing a lot better and is performing a hell of a lot better, more confident. I think reid shows glimpses and fades out of games far too much.

Or maybe last year was the exception, seeing as he's now showing similar signs to what he did in 2011? He had a down year but still competed, which is what you want from a developing kpf in a bottom four team.

As the Essendon supporter said, Jones has more to his game than Reid. A bigger tank, better up the ground and so far this year seems to be better in contested marking situations.

Not sure why anyone doubts reids tank

I remember being very impressed with Reid in his first couple of seasons, but he's gone backwards as the Swans have gotten better.

Jones.

For the sake of amusement, how has Jones been better than Reid outside the 50?

Nah, level below.

This is like a cripple fight. Which young underperforming KPF is slightly better.

Reid is in a slump that he'll get out of. His best is better than Jones'.

When we play another tall like Cordy, Jones hits up to the wing a lot. He does it well, although the fact for the past two seasons we've hardly ever had the ball works against him. He's fairly hardworking for a 197cm lump of a lad.

I'm still laughing that Swans fans can say Reid is in a slump to discredit Jones - he had a bad 2012 but apart from that he's performed as expected for a young forward. If we signed him up for a 5 year deal we'd be trying to justify it, too.

Sounds like Jones is averaging 10 marks a game this year.

Sorry, you said he was working better up the ground than Reid, how is he doing that exactly?

Maybe try watching Jones. He looks much better than Reid when they have to push up. Reid has looked lost most of this year.

That's a nothing statement. What does 'looking much better' entail? Is he getting more inside 50s? Is he contributing defensively? How does one 'look much better pushing up'?

Your whole argument has been nothing statement after nothing statement. You've done nothing but rubbish Jones without even putting forward anything solid about Reid. Statistically Reid is doing better up the ground this year, but I know watching Jones last year he was very good at pushing up to the wing. I might have to look at Reid closer in that regard if the stats are anything to go by. But it appears I was wrong.

At any rate this year Jones spent more time in the 50 and is reaping the rewards, mainly when he is played as the sole tall - he's kicked 8 goals in two games without Cordy there playing close to goal. He's kicking more goals than Reid, who has the benefit of being in a better team.

You seem to switch back and forth between statistical backing and "the feel" depending on who you're talking about. It's also a bit odd that you could make the comparison about who was better up the ground and comment that I should watch Jones more before admitting you hadn't actually been watching Reid much.

As for my thoughts on Reid, career to date he's done better than Jones with more defensive pressure. We could get into qualifiers about injuries, better teams, or game plans, but then it just starts to get stupid. Jones has certainly started this year better, but seeing as you're not willing to take a two season sample size as a good indication, I don't see why this patch is that much more meaningful.

Bit of a contradiction between the two bolded sentences, don't you think?

Underperforming compared to what other young KPFs their age caring their responsibility? Pretty much no KPF their age is killing the comp. Guys like Reiwoldt are the exception.

Fair comment, probably unperforming in terms of supporter expectation sometimes but we're selfish when it comes to young forwards.

I still say Sam's best is far superior to Liam's. I think in the long run it won't be much of a contest.
