I think hes lost the bloody plot. Is he trying to get sued/sacked?? Thats the most hefty attack on an individual ive heard on the footy show.

I'm not sure that Chris Grant would agree with you.

This article in the Geelong Advertiser earlier in the week may explain why Sam had at a go at Crackers.

Newman a legend in the Hall of Fools - Crackers Keenan

Sam Newman was last night inducted into the AFL's Hall of Fame; he should also be inducted into the Hall of Fools.

I played a lot of footy against Sam and rate him as one of the best.

He deserves his place after 300 games, captain of the club and making Geelong's team of the century, but to see him last Thursday night with a windsock on top of his head and blinkers in a Western Bulldogs jumper, I felt sorry for him.

To allow himself to be belittled and degraded like that saddened me.

He should have completed the picture of a goose by sitting on a dunking chair to humiliate himself further.

He really did look like a goose. I don't think Sam realises how much of a goose he looked.

Such a good player doesn't need to resort to such absurd antics to maintain his profile. I cringed when I saw it.

People are soon going to remember him only for his antics such as last Thursday night and the night he had his pants whipped down.

I might be remembered for whacking Don Scott and being a larrikan on the field but I haven't dacked myself or worn a windsock on my head...yet.

Star studded coaching department at Geelong: Norm Dare, Brendan McCartney (who?), Alan McConnell, Ron Watt (who????).

No mention of Crackers but that doesn't mean he's not there, this is after all the official club site so we can't expect accuracy.

Stephen King is the leading ruckman in the league for Hit Outs

Must be having a shocking year!!

But see, according to most of our supporters he should not only get the hitout, but get the clearance, mark his own clearance and kick the goal.

If he doesn't do that 20 times a game, then he's had a shocker apparently.

Fair call. Although I must say I feel better about having a no name coach when I look at the rest of the names on the match committee.

What advantage do you have by having superstar footballers like Diesel and Sticks on the match committee?

What I am saying is that one of Brittain's vulnerable points as a coach is his lack of senior playing experience.

He's a good enough coach to have got the job despite that and good luck to him. But I think it's also good for the players to have these superstars helping them out and to look up to.

Hmm last bloke Keenan coached ended up All Australian for the year he actually had him.

Last bloke Newman coached was going to be *quote Bruce McAvaney from the 1991 GF* 'set to dominate the next decade'.

Sam came down from memory in 92 to oversee his career. Never saw such promise disappear so quick. Still Stevie Lawrence did win a premiership so he has that up on Sam I guess.

I don't think you can blame Sam for the Lawrence situation. I always thought he had a crisis of faith and stopped playing with any aggression.

However Crackers has a very good record as a ruck coach. I generally think suing people for defamation is wrong and against free speech but when you just blatantly abuse someone like that that's what it's for as far as I'm concerned.

Oh trust me that at least some blame can be apportioned towards Newman re Lawrence's fall from grace.

Jump early (prior to that he just jumped on instinct) was the main culprit (much like Mckernan now).

Time and again I read how Newman kept saying that to Stevie and to get into the opponents body early. Worked wonderfully for him as a short ruckman but for Stevie just killed his timing.

Agree though there were other factors (the elbow to Matera's head being another big contributor) but Sam certainly didn't help matters.

hey wouldn't street talk be great if it were clips of normal people answering serious questions!

Maybe not.

Sounds just like the debate that was in the editorial section of this morning's Courier.

And I am trying very hard to remain objective on the matter, since I happen to work for the paper every weekend.

Cheers,

each week sam has a dig at someone. he's had a go at geelong, rick lewis, chris grant, corey, krackers + probably a few more this year alone.

its a way of generating your own headlines. don't take anything he says to heart.

Well said. It's all to get a rise out of people-- don't forget that "The Footy Show", and the "Street Talk" segment in particular, is nothing more than light-hearted entertainment. It ain't life or death material.

Some people, regardless of whether they live in Daylesford, Ballarat, or Mars, need to get a thicker skin.

Cheers,
William
