seemed to always be in space, either he wasnt being used or he was running to the wrong spots.

Looks very mobile but didnt do a hell of alot, I only saw the last quarter though.

Was also impressed with his mobility. I didn't know he was playing and I saw this big bloke just take off and burn off a midfielder.

So I took a look in the record and it was Meese.

Didn't think Vince had much of an impact yesterday, particularly in the 1st half when Matty Krieg not only shut him down but became damaging going the other way. Vince got a bit more of it as the game went on and worked harder defensively on Krieg but was beaten on the day.

Gallman spent a lot of the 2nd half on the bench but came back on in the last quarter when the game was there to be won and put his body on the line courageously to win the ball in a physical contest that left him with the wind knocked out of him.

Young Crows fire in SANFL

Several Crows showed good form in the SANFL on the weekend.

John Hinge, who unfortunately strained a hamstring in his AFL debut game in round six, played his best game since resuming with Glenelg. Playing across half-back, Hinge had 20 possessions and also kicked a goal in the Tigers’ big win over West Adelaide on Sunday.

Richard Douglas also was among Glenelg’s best, winning 22 possessions across half-forward. He kicked 1.2 and gave away a couple of goals to team-mates.

And James Sellar made the most of his promotion, booting three goals and contributing strongly as a ruckman/forward.

Ruckman Ivan Maric played his best game of the season for Port Adelaide Magpies. Competing against Sturt’s Simon Feast and Fabian Deluca, Maric had 13 possessions and 17 hit-outs.

Bernie Vince, taken to the Gold Coast as an emergency for Adelaide’s clash with the Kangaroos, returned home early on Sunday morning and was among the Eagles’ best in their loss to North Adelaide. He had 21 possessions.

Rookie Rhys Archard worked hard in the midfield for South against Central, earning 27 possessions and kicking two goals and fellow rookie Greg Gallman was in defence for North but had his day ruined by a whack to the nose.

In the reserves, rookie James Turner was solid for South Adelaide while Norwood’s John Meesen and Darren Pfeiffer had good hit-outs with West and the Eagles during their league club’s bye.

This could be a first; the Crows have downplayed a performance of one of their youngsters! They said James Turner was "solid for South Adelaide", when in fact he was named BOG. I doubt he'll get a league call-up though because he doesn’t have the bulk required for league level.

Some of those stats are baffling for mine.

In particular

Douglas - 1 tackle and Sellar - 4 HO. They couldn't be further from the mark.

Friend went down to the Glenelg v West game yesterday, here is their report:

Hinge:

Don’t look into his stats, because his role isn’t – nor ever will be – to be an attacking midfielder.

I see him becoming a tagger, which will release Van Berlo from the secondary role behind Shirley.

His game yesterday was good. Trademark hardness at the ball were on display, has cleaned up his disposal immensely and is now a feature of his game, and is quite quick for his 189cm height.

Certainly did a great job on his opponent, and linked up nicely in the midfield.

7/10.

Douglas:

Much better than his last few weeks, but still not back to his dominating best, but encouraging display nonetheless. He set very high standards last year (ie regularly got 25 possies and 3 or 4 goals).

Anyone who previously questioned his pace, well, it’s fair to say he’s quite brisk across the surface. Definitely no Chris Judd, but I can see why he was hailed by the commentators for running down Chris Judd holding the ball in the pre season.

Kicking and handballing skills were fantastic.

Slipping over problem still apparent, he slipped over once or twice in a seemingly normal circumstance (slipped over last week after taking a bounce and got caught holding the ball too).

Could have had 3 goals. Handballed a goal to Sellar in the goalsquare in the 3rd, so effectively had 2 goals. His point was a shot from about 65 out, which just missed – yes, he has a booming kick!!

Just needs to get more of it to get himself back into contention for selection, although to be fair he was off for a fair chunk of the 3rd quarter with a cut eye.

7/10

Sellar:

Played 30% ruck, 30% forward and 30% bench.

Ruck:

DO NOT read into his 4 hitouts, he absolutely dominated the ruck, and the fact he’s listed as 4 hitouts is a joke.

Outbodied his opponents using his brain on occasions, but was also pushed off a little bit by a stronger ruckmen around the ground sometimes. Needs an extra 10kg.

Jump rucks he dominated, his leap and tap was far superior to Lenny Clarke’s.

8.5/10

Forward

Kicked 3.1. Very good considering he only played 30% of the time up there. If he played the whole game, probably could have had 5-6, given Glenelg’s dominance.

Kicked 1 from a pack mark, 1 from a leading mark and 1 was gifted to him by Douglas, but I watched him for about 30-40 seconds prior and he outsmarted his opponent to get so free in the goal square in the first place.

Leading was a bit inconsistent though, still enjoys just sitting in the goal square, although to be fair he was a resting ruck so I guess it’s not his job to be the one doing all the leading.

7/10

Bench

One of the best in the game.

10/10

Overall

7/10

Douglas definately had more tackles than that and Sellar did more in the ruck than that.

We recorded Douglas as having 8 tackles, and Sellar as having 17 hitouts.

Those stats are from the Advertiser and are quite often inaccurate.

Check Ecky's stats on either SAFooty or Snoutslouts for some numbers which are on the ball.

Yep, never trust any SANFL stats from the Advertiser - they are so embarrassing, as this example shows!
They also recorded 37 less handballs for Glenelg on Sunday than we did!!!

I like this description of Hinge. We should never really expect him to be a top line AFL attacking midfielder but from what i've seen he could become very capable of filling the role of a secondary and eventually primary tagger similar to Shirley serving a sort of apprenticship under Stenglein.:thumbsu:

He'll never be a star, but I think he's the guy that every team needs to have. Reminds me of a Torney/Massie type player.

I agree with the comments on Hinge, but is he really 189cm? He doesn't look that tall, and afc.com.au has him listed at 187cm which me thinks is still generous.

I've never seen him in the flesh though.

Hinge was likened to Archer when we picked him up ... in that he plays taller than his height, but also comfortable matching on smalls.
