I had read about this only a few days ago and just got a call then. Some indian chump (no indie) will ring you up and say he is from microsoft and then proceed to tell you to run some bullshit. I pretended to do what he said then exploded and told him to f*** off with his scam and that I back-traced him and to come at me. His insults were "you are a bastard, a son of a gun".

Can't say I disagree with his overall assessment of you dubs.

Have had these kents ring me as well, just pretended to go along with it and then said I had to go half way through...

Didn't understand what she was saying half the time anyway.

I'm on the federal government's do-not-call list, so I speak to them politely long enough to get their details. Then I yell at them, hang up and report them.

I recently advertised a room for rent and received this reply from a scammer who I strung along for quite a while.

Hi MalceskiFan,

My name is Kim Bobson and it's nice to hear from you. I'm a 28 year old, 5'7 straight female and very much single! A very simple, easy going and quiet person to live with. I won't be able to come and view the room as am presently in South Africa where i live and working as a site manager in a construction company called ( Bello Construction ).

My company would be responsible for all related expenses regarding my trip including my Air ticket with my subsequent rent during my stay in Australia, you can start charging my rent before my arrival i don't mind just let me know when you wish to start.

I would be needing a room to rent, I was supposed to start my holiday last month but due to HR, my company has decided to move my six months annual leave till September So i should be in Australia by mid September.

I don't drink, may sip a little wine though if it's white and of the occasion is right, neither do I smoke but do not mind being around people who do. I'm a very fun filled vibrant young lady with an appealing and sometimes annoying sense of humor, and I love to laugh, I take my best feature to be my teeth !.

I love traveling and I have a done a lot lately in my career as a professional technology to build my profile. Been to England, Seychelles, Italy, France and I narrowly missed out onNew York. I'm originally from South Africa and most of families still live in Cape Town.

I have an aunt in New Zealand too but this is my first time in Australia,I will be staying for 6 month . I love sports, a very enthusiastic cricket fan and what's more I enjoy meeting people.

Am o.k with the price of the room and i would make a month payment ( $520 AUD ) the bond will be paid upon my arrival before i move into the room if its require, you will have to wait for me to have my update our account officer with the price of the room in order for my first month rent to be issue out to you cause my company would be responsible for my trip including my accommodation throughout my stay in Australia and i will be staying for 6 month.

I need you to provide me with your payment details because if my company approves the payment a cheque would be issued out in your favor for my first month rent as soon as possible.

1. Full name to be written on cheque:

2. Your Postal Address :

3. Suburb Name:

4. City:

5. Post code:

6. Country:

7. Your contact telephone number (Home & Mobile):

Thanks once again, i hope to hear from you and also it would be nice if you can tell me more about yourself like your age,sex etc,do have a lovely and pleasant day ahead while i expect to read from you again..!

Regards
Kim.

Despite knowing full well that it was a scam and I was most likely emailing a nigerian bloke part of me couldn't resist the urge to demand n00dz just in case.

I get this scam about once every 2 weeks. In total, it has happened around about 10 times. I now just tell them to shut up and dont lie, then hang up on them.

While in a waiting room one day at the doctors, I overheard an older couple talking about it, and they got sucked in by the scammer. I didnt hear the end of the conversation though, because my doctor called me in.

Does that list actually work?
Because my dad's on that list - and he gets calls like that at least twice a day.
I keep telling him it's not a real list.
It's a list so the people think the government is doing something about it.

my mate got that one. What she does is she sends you 2 months rent in US travellers checks, but her paymaster ****s up and sends you her airfare as well. So you are supposed to cash in the checks and send her her airfare and keep the rent.

Then they are of course stolen, so the bank reclaims their money from you...

My mate didn't fall for it, but did get the checks. They look legit, but some interwebs research quickly found out what the deal was

speaking of scams...

This hottie just added me on Facebook. I don't know her, but I look like fun from my Facebook photo apparently.

I'm in!!

It's a list so the people think the government is doing something about it.
It's cut down on the number of calls I receive significantly... it was pretty bad when I first moved in, I think whoever used to live at my address must have been on all sorts of lists.

A lot of organisations are exempt though. Religious organisations, charities, political parties, the government, etc. Also, if you have ever consented to contact from an organisation (either by ticking or failing to tick a box on a form, for example) they're also allowed to ring you.

Greetings, friends. Do you wish to look as happy as me? Well, you've got the power inside you right now. So, use it, and send one dollar to Happy Dude, 742 Evergreen Terrace, Springfield. Don't delay, eternal happiness is just a dollar away.

Got this same thing about a month or so ago. I did the old pretend to do what he says thing as well whilst looking up his "company" on the googlez. He got to some point in his instructions (I have no idea what it was, I wasn't listening) and he asked if I had any red alerts or something. I said no and he was insistent that there had to be something there.

Then he asked "You are running Vista aren't you?" My reply was "No, Windows 7."

His reply ".......::click:: beep beep beep beep"

I lol'd.

I use to hate it when before the old balls dropped they would just start talking to me and im like, Umm hold on I'll get the rents. How does a little boy sound like a adult?

Son of a gun? It's almost too obvious for me to post it... that's a compliment to you for turning the tables and screwing him around. That's what you'd say for someone being too slick

Gumtree?
I sold my motorbike on there a while back and I got a shit load of spam from dodgey bros asking me to take it to some back alley in Frankston where I would receive the money for the bike and definitely not be r*ped*.

*much

Heaps do the shipping and sending of cheques thing, you'd have to be an absolute pleb to fall for it though.
