I hate the usual rumourmongering that goes around but I heard from a fellow Freo member and school teacher at a certain northern suburbs school that Schofield has enrolled his kids at her school and that he's a 95% chance to be joining Freo next year.

If you don't believe me thats cool because I rarely believe when people write the same kind of rumours.

Scholfield might be good in our midfield for a few years and if it is true it might mean the end for Cook or Macca with Carr jnr, Black and Schofield in our midfield.

I'm surprised you want him. Don't you have half-forwards already?

Like most players during trade period I'll believe it when I see it!
No worries. Like I said I wouldn't have believed me if I had read me and I wasn't me... if you know what I mean.

But the person who told me doesn't have anything to gain from making up the story. But I guess we'll see.

I think he wants to come back to WA, don't think he will though.
from what i have heard his wife is coming back to WA, even if he doesn't. that might explain why his kids are enrolled in school in WA.

Ah, Jarrad we hardly knew ye.

Good luck to him if he goes but as far as Im concerned the 1 yr contract offered to him was more than fair. I cant see him playing for more than 1 or 2 yrs at whatever club he goes to, he is 30 yrs old so really he cant expect long term guarantees when we have so much youth coming through the ranks. Why would Freo want him anyway, with Bell, Haselby etc established in the midfield, you went to the trouble to get Carr and Black, Schoey really would not be a priority.

I would take him, if he would play for virtually nothing. he would offer some depth to the side.

I have no problem with Schoey going to Freo. Would rather he made his intentions clear prior to trade week if it's true, but we'd have gotten a third round pick at best anyway, which we don't really need another of. A win-win for Port and Fremantle if it occurs. Port can player some youngsters more in the midfield, Freo. gets another midfielder with premiership experience to help the youngsters for a year or two, so they'll be more a real chance at the flag in 2006/2007.

That said as 95% of these rumours turn out to be false, I'll believe it when I see it.

I agree. The only reason I could think is that they might get a little panicky if we don't have enough "midfield depth" which was a big concern for us last year.
If they do, as they intend, want to play Pav as a KPP, then I would think they may want to have every base covered so they don't feel they need to stick Pav back in the middle to cover some deficiency.
We now have a proliferation of mid-fielders who would get a game before Schofield - Hase, JCarr, Bell, Schammer, Black, Headland, MCarr, Webster. At 30, he would probably have to get in line behind Macca and Cookie, who many here believe will be struggling for games this coming year because of the arrival of our "new" midfielders. There are also young guys Browne and Dunn who will be there and abouts and needing some game time to develop their ability at the top level.
If Schoey came to Freo, he would be in no better position than if he stayed at Port - no guarantee of playing in the seniors. And unless he puts a huge price tag on his head (which I would hope that Freo would never agree to), he may end up playing in Melbourne, which would completely defeat the purpose of "going home to get a better deal".
Nup, can't see it happening. But I guess you would never say never. ;)

ok this going to sound really pathetic, boarding on humerous but i promise this is the truth.

my next door neighbours cousin is schofields wife. apparantly the wife is coming back with the kids, jarrod is still in talks with port. dockers havent spoken with him yet, although they had contact during trade week.

as i said earlier, His wife is likely to return to WA, but schofield isn't as likely to be returning. The major reason i would suggest is that schofield will want to much money. Money the docker aren't prepared to give, given the amount of similar type player already on the dockers list.

I would have thought the way Subi and the North Perth Royals throw around money for "interstate" players, those two teams would be a better option than Freo.

I honestly thought he would announce his retirement from the AFL after just holding his place in the Port grand final team. Another case of not knowing when to go out on top. He will struggle to get a senior game at Port and Freo do not need him (a 30 year old recruit!!, David Hatt has left the building).

he's definately not what we need..

that said if we got him on the cheap and he doesn't mind playing a little wafl footy it wouldn't hurt having him as a backup.

Go for it you may have him !!

Great pick up for us but really slowed down towards then end of the season. After watching alot of fox footy and the games in the past 3 seasons, he really did get alot of the footy for us, however I think he may struggle to hold down a senior spot this coming season .. Then again he may prove us all wrong, I hope he does

A good player that when in his prime (first half of season 2002) was an extremely good player that ran hard, got lots of the ball and knew how to hit the forwards on the chest and kick a goal. Those days are over for him however....this year he was very lucky not to be dropped after yet another awful finals series from him, he has lost his pace and his confidence. Apparently he wants a 2 year contract but if hes still a regular at the Power in 2 years time then something is dreadfully wrong.

I cant see him playing many more games at Freo than he would at Port. Youve just added Carr and Black and would expect quite a few games from the likes of Dunn. I cant see how he could positively add to your side. Ok for depth purposes sure but I think he is dreaming if he thinks he is going to be a regular at either of our clubs for the next two years.

Personally I think its overkill by Freo. Why do we need so many midfieldiers

Panic buying.

If Pav goes to CHF, they will want to leave him there all year. We had good midfielders, but no midfield depth last season - they must be trying to compensate.

As voodoo said - he better be friggin cheap.

It is fairly likely that Port were giving him rough treatment financially, on the basis of cap restraints and having paid him handsomely for his form in the past, so he might well be fairly cheap.
