Schwab to Bell

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

That would be pretty cool in an idealistic kind of way, but Belly doesn't really have any experience does he? Big jump from being the head of the AFLPA.

Would it keep the 'Freo people in Freo' happy if we appointed a completely inexperienced man?

Reported on SEN this morning Belly to replace Schwab as CEO,Is this rumour or fact? If Scwab goes now will Belly be a playing CEO :)

Belly couldnt possibly commute between Geraldton and Perth and be a CEO :)

Could possibly be the best move your club makes. Keep things in house. Develop some sort of culture.

When Harvs goes, and a Freo coach is put in place you'll be on your way.

it could work.

at least he's got the best of both worlds with footy and business.

it is SEN though...so dont hold your breath.

well - that would certainly tick the box of "Keeping Freo' in Freo". No doubt.
However as pointed out the lack of experience is very noticable. Belly is obviously a bright bloke, plus, and correct me if I'm wrong hordites, a UWA law degree?
It's not totally out the realms of possibility but the lack of experience of running something big is a disadvantage and perhapsthe fact Bell would not have too many established business contacts.

And the experience of Schwab made his performance and decision making any better?

Schwab did his job perfectly it was his job to make the team a success off the field.
Not On
He did it

He stuck his head into trading etc which he then was able to convince fans, media and sponsors that freo is looking up an heading to the top.
Helping to make the club a success off field.

now our club is going to suffer with not many young players coming through but thats not his problem he did his job an did it very well.

The idiots at freo should have never let him have anything to do with trading he was only looking to make profits an doesnt know whats best when it comes to players needed to succeed On Field.

That would be kiroshi.... and he stands by that thread.

We certainly do not need that Richmond style coach merry-go-round at the Fremantle Football Club.

The only goal that a CEO of a footy club should have, anyone at the club, is success on the field. Everything else comes from that. And Schwab failed, because like so many people who study in the field, it is only money that ever matters...

No it is Stoner08, a brisbane fan, bloody ironic isn't it? Lethal is from where? Seems that victorians are good enough for coaches, captains in fact how many qld's make up the leadership group?

Chops are you even aware of what a CEO does? The CEO of any organization runs the show behind the scenes, an AFL CEO has nothing to do with the football side of a footy club. We have about six coaches etc and fitness experts who run the on field side.

Schwabby has been excellent for us, turning around a club hemorrhaging money and struggling with about 25,000 members into one of the power clubs of the competition with over 40,000 members and swimming in money and the best facilities money can buy.

Yes I am very aware.

An AFL CEO SHOULD have nothing to do with the football side of the club. Unfortunately for our club, that hasn't been the case. And our list has been rogered for the sake of marketing.

Even after our club had become economically successful, he couldn't butt out then.

The CEO does however have a big say in which money goes where, and who gets it. Our performance suggests, his calls in this area have been poor.

What qualifications would Bell actually have, other than doing a Law degree, being part of a failed property development and playing football?

If we appoint him as CEO we deserve to go belly up. Would be a ridicilous decision.

So who should have been running the club when Schwab arrived? The head coach that we didn't have or the Chairman that was on the way out? Schwab surrounded himself with people he could manipulate.

All schwab's "success" has been achieved thru smoke and mirrors - big signings to suck in the corporates and the rank and file. To this he's done a great job!! Not in the class of cooke, nesbitt, cunningham, Ireland- all these fellas have overseen
premierships - something schwab won't see.

abbasolute disgrace that he is still here after pulling the pin- huge conflict of interest.

dont agree with how he did his job an now we could suffer on field for a few years bewcause of it, but his main job is making the club a success off field which he suceeded with.

Teams like Melbourne, kangaroos etc would love him at there club so he can get them out of financial trouble.
They will see how he turned around freo $$$ wise completely ignore on field success an say he is a good pickup.

Wouldnt trust bell as a ceo after his geraldton business flopped but def needs to be kept at the club in some role after retirement (hopefully next year game 300)

Please explain this "failed property development" if you will.

There may have been tensions within the management group.

But the development is far from a failure.

So stop trolling you w***er.

I do agree, however, that Belly, (at this stage), would not be an ideal CEO.

Belly is undoubtedly talented, however he, like anyone, has to earn his stripes in the business world to take on a role like this.

He is yet to do that.

Put him on the board by all means.....and give him a place in senior management next year.

But to parachute him into the CEO role is very premature.
