How are they my thoughts? A journalist showed evidence of them asking the PMO if he was in Hawaii and they flat out denied it. Journalists have also come out and said they were told to respect his privacy and not report on it.

Why did they take that action?
Can't explain why others acted the way that they did. That's for them to answer. I can put forward possible theories however that then will mean that there is no basis to them and they are hypothetical.

Funny, you're on here prosecuting the Tory cause every day of the week.

(Oh, that's right, you're the poster who proved himself completely incapable of mounting a coherent case for why he voted for Morrison when asked.)

Still doesn't mean that I can answer for someone else now does it?

Actually I gave an answer to that question you posed and someone got all offended when the answer provided happened to show the irrelevance and stupidity of the question you posed.

Yesterday's cartoon with Anthony Albanese making political capital of a national emergency, using the bushfires as a film backdrop, hit quite a chord, attracting many comments and shares.
I was particularly moved by this comment from Stephen Shields, a NSW firefighter who had returned from fighting the Bilpin fire in western Sydney.
While the politician was fed and filmed at the local Community Hall, using the fireys as a backdrop, there was no breakfast for the exhausted firefighters who spent the night battling the blazes.
But there was Albo, staged as the hero for the cameras 'feeding weary firefighters', while the real heroes were told to go down the road to Maccas.
That's something you won't hear about in your news bulletins.
Here's Stephen's post. Thank you, Stephen, and all your fellow firefighters for all you do. Merry Christmas.
Paul , i was at the Bilpin fire Thursday night , when we were released around 6am there was no breakfast waiting for us at the staging area at Bilpin Community Hall and we were told to go to McDonald's North Richmond ( on our nearly 3hr trip north home )to get a feed. On the way out on the Bells Line of Road at Kurrajong at a roadblock, here was Albo and staffers and Comcar and a TV OB van waiting to do a interview obviously. Seems they waited for Albo and the journos to arrive at the Bilpin Hall to start serving breakfast for Albos " feeding weary firefighters" photo op. Im over all politicians using us firefighters and the fires to enhance their public profiles.

Some great moderation right there, first off make it clear which side you're on, and then seeings as you've taken sides, don't let the opposing side have a clear run to state their case against you and your man's opinion
What else would you expect from Basil?

A well argued point?

It was a dumb move for so many obvious reasons. Of course he couldn't have done much but the perception was terrible and it allowed Albanese some air time to remind people that the ALP still existed. He should have been going around offering suppory.and agreed to hold a summit with states about how to get ready for future.

There in lies the problem. If you are in denial of what the future holds, you can't plan to deal with it in any useful fashion. These bushfires are a terrible reminder of what lies in our future. The hotter and drier we become the worse they will be, and the science is very certain, the higher the C02 in the atmosphere becomes, the hotter we will become.

Interestingly The Australian has been doing all it can to 'diminish' the current crisis and has distinguished itself in it's perfidy. eg:
- not running bushfire stories on the front page as much as other papers, hard to tell there was even a problem.
- attacking the ex fire chiefs who called out government response, vilifying them to conservative voters by attaching the words 'Tim Flannery' to them.
- running articles denying climate change- bushfire link
- finding a shonky biologist who works for the IPA who says the current crisis is not unprecedented, it's just 'normal'
- justifying Scomo's bolt to Hawaii - now looking pretty funny after his recent mea culpa
- it's greenies fault for preventing back burning (which is actually a really complex topic and it's benefits are by no means certain and it's dangers very real)

I think we have hit the point where the reality is so manifest, the spin just fails for most people, irrespective of their voting patterns.

No, you showed yourself yet again to be utterly unwilling or unable to explain your position on a matter.

Still waiting for your report card on Morrison's achievements since May.

You know, here's a general tip - if you really, truly believe with all your heart and soul in the conservative cause (I'm assuming you do), and you really, truly want others to see the superiority of the conservative cause, you're not going to win a single person over to the conservative cause, despite its apparent superiority, if you're repeatedly unwilling or unable to explain why it's the way forward. Your credibility will slowly erode to nothing.

You asked a question which asked why i should justify voting for morrison based on what stuff he has been doing and done 6 months after an election. You then got told that that is completely irrelevant to why I vote for someone and that all that is relevant is why I voted for him on the day of polling which is when I cast my vote. You then got all offended with the fact I wouldn't give you what you wanted

Pretty mean spirited post I’d have thought. At least he was in the country and out there which is more than we can say for some.

Typical media stunt, and the left will eat it up. When Tony Abbott was PM, he'd actively fight fires and get criticised for it. He never asked for the media to film him doing it as he'd been a volunteer fire-fighter for years.

But look at Albo, he's cooking breakfast while making sure the cameras are on him!

Chris Smith says Morrison "is one of the greatest leaders we've ever had!"

Outstanding satire.
Who is he pitching that to?

It's obviously, on just about any metric you want to name, not true.

Morrison is facing no real, emergency economic issues right now, apart from the bushfires. Which he ran away from.

In the coming months I am guessing we will find a collapse in retail spending, going by just my own experience of being able to find an undercover car park in three different shopping centres near me.

Roy Morgan is calling it 2.6% growth (on a 3.7% fall last year) while there seems to be a bit of gloom over the big sales and the bushfires.

Those bushfires again.

How long before we get lists of Morrison's successes full of Trumpian things like "making Australians feel proud of being Australian Australians again"?

If that's your attitude then you must struggle to post your thoughts on any topic at all.

Can you at least admit that it is a really bad look to deny he was in Hawaii, and to proactively cover it up?

Sorry but how can I answer for the actions of others at all.

I don't agree with the way he went about it.

And if Albo was in Hawaii sucking on a Pineapple Daiquiri you can be sure the Oz, Bolt, Jones etal would have torn a piece off him too.

It is unfair of the media, but that's how they all work now.

Scumo maybe should have said something before secreting himself out of the country. Why not have said 'I'd promised my kids we'd have a few days together, theirs never a real good time to be away but I owed that to my family. Whilst away 'Dickwad Jones' (insert anybody) will be the PM & I'll keep in touch with things as all PM's do when on leave'.

Simple & honest. Something he isn't.

I say again he's asked for it after attacking Christine Nixon who dared to go out to dinner whilst the black Friday event was on in Victoria. A pretty gutless display IMO at that time.

Also the shyte about firees 'loving it', real dumb stuff when it makes them sick, broke & away from family, if not get killed. That was just so stupid to say that.

I have no idea what was going on this week was away mostly.
So what are you doing arguing with me then? :drunk:

As an aside, you don't want to speculate about Morrison's motives as it is hypothetical, yet you'll happily speculate that Bill Shorten is a corrupt union leader.

So for once you admit you have no idea about the issue you're commenting on? That basically means you've just been in here cheerleading. Embarrassing.

I didn't need to know about it to give the answer I gave. Fact is that no one who supports Morrison can comment on why his staff chose the actions that they did. That is calling for the operation of another's mind.

Another masterpiece from GazzaFromGrongGrong, Poet Laureate in the Comments section of Guardian articles.

Every day he's on there (I'm guessign Gazza is a he; you never know though) dreaming up these briliant rhyming satires. No idea how he does it. Quite the talent.

Sit back, relax, it’s ScoMo here,
I’m home, so all is fine,
don’t worry, folks, just give a cheer,
my presence is a sign
that things are back to normal now,
my hand is on the wheel,
so don’t keep asking why and how,
just listen to my spiel
and nod your heads at bubble-talk,
for I bring peace of mind,
and when I fail to walk the walk
I’m leading from behind.

Yes, I’m the answer to your prayers,
the hero in control,
who’ll smooth away your climate cares,
for that’s my central role…
to treat you all like docile sheep,
to pat you on the head
and send the quiet ones to sleep,
contented and well-fed,
so I’ll keep asking for your trust
although I have no plan,
for in reality I’m just
an advertising man.

When you put it like that - he doesn't actually do anything.

Curtin didn't shoot Nazis either, but he was a leader.

geez some guys really struggle with the simple concepts of demarcation and authority

The military is a government department and deployed in times of war under the guidance, authority and instruction of the federal government.

The fire service is deployed under the guidance, authority and instruction of the state government.

You're much smarter than that Lunchlady......surely?
