all chosen by the state ALP Govt so are you saying the ALP is using the vaccine program to target seats?

Incorrect. This list was compiled by the Commonwealth Health Department in their role regarding Aged Care.

From the ABC:

"Mr Hunt said the initial aged care facilities were carefully selected by health authorities.

"They have done it on a risk basis for the country as well as making sure there's diversity across urban and rural [areas]," he said.:

So when should will the Commonwealth stop politicising COVID. This would be the first time they've acknowledged responsibility for aged care and it's only to ensure LNP electorates get looked after at the expense of actual public health.

The PMO could hardly do anything about him given he’d already been sacked by the time anyone there knew about it.

But you’re right very big difference between government sacking him before allegations were known and private sector sacking him once allegations were aired publicly.

After reading this thread for a few days, I’m still perplexed as to what the government was supposed to do to him after sacking him?

1) contact higgins and guarantee her job with the government regardless of whether or not she pursues a complaint against him (instead of saying "suck it up, or leave")

2) go back to (1) again

3) seriously, (1) is the whole card game

4) provide the CCTV tape to the AFP, dont just let them have a look at it and tell them to go away afterwards

5) set up an independent investigator to ask for all parliamentary staff to come forward with any allegations of sexual misconduct or harassment with full whistleblower protections (three cases were known to the libs by mid 2019, so issues of misconduct in the capital were a known issue)

on a party level:

6) revoke his membership from the liberal party, and issue a mandate that he's persona non-grata from any party roles, federally or at state level

7) issue a directive to all senior staff, ministers, and backbenchers that no liberal government will support any reference or referee for him in any role moving forward

ah, you’re focusing on the rapist. Great question though!

what they could have done is:

1. not imply if the victim pursued her case to report to the police - she would lose her job.

2. As part of a security inquiry - made reforms around out of hours access, little things like if someone can’t stand up - should they be in Ministers Offices

3. assisted the victim to report to the police, granting time off (paid), provided counselling and or medical assistance

4. given security cameras immediately to police to assist with criminal charges

5. Clear communication and repeated training on harassment, unwanted attention and what is part of an employees obligations when at work and including when at work functions

.... just a few suggestions

I was responding to the comment about how private enterprises are apparently better because they sacked him immediately even though that’s exactly what the government did.

There is clearly issues with how her complaint was handled. It sounds like they were supportive but given the business their in they wanted to be kept in the loop and she took this as them not wanting her to proceed even though they were telling her they supported her.

Unless someone comes out and says Reynolds in her meeting with the AFP told them to sweep it under the rug, I’m prepared to look at this as a poorly handled incident than the cover up being alleged.

Hopefully the investigations and inquiry can lead to these reforms, it’s disappointing but as someone alluded to earlier it is quite typical of the private school boy culture that existed when most politicians were growing up and that’s not limited to either party.

Just on 1), you can't really guarantee a job if it turned out she was lying

I don't think she is lying by the way

How is this for support for her? And on the Perth gig, before you say "thats just coincidence", she was flown to perth 3 days after the election was called, and returned to canberra 2 days after it was concluded.

Brittany Higgins breaks down on The Project over alleged rape at Parliament House (news.com.au)

Ms Higgins broke down as she revealed how she felt as she continued working for the Liberals — saying she felt the party intentionally isolated her.

She said she was given the choice to either go home and see out her remaining six weeks or join minister Reynold’s WA-based team.

She went for the latter, saying she didn’t want to give up her dream job.

“I had worked my entire life to get here. I wanted this future. I wanted to be a part of it, for my entire working life. So I went to WA,” she said.

“We were sort of working seven days a week. I was pretty suicidal to be honest at the time. Because you are just alone. It was really hard.”

Host Lisa Wilkinson asked her whether she thought it was a “curious option” to send someone who’d just alleged rape to the other side of the country with no support network.

“Yes. I thought it felt intentional,” Ms Higgins responded.

She said she “absolutely” felt pressured to not to proceed with the case with the police

“There is a strange culture of silence in the parties,” she said. “The idea of sort of speaking out on these sorts of issues, especially around a campaign, is just like letting the team down, you are not a team player.”

After the election, Ms Higgins accepted a job from Employment Minister Michaelia Cash, and by that point she was “having difficulties coming through the entrance of Parliament House”.

She claims Ms Cash — whose office says only recently found out the specifics of the alleged rape — told her to “suck it up essentially”.

“I felt every time I walked through it I would get panicky and I sort of, I said I was having difficulties just coming in,” Ms Higgins said.

“At that point she was like ‘well you are just going to have to suck it up essentially’ and it was, it’s that same idea of, you deal with it or you leave.”

Support the woman making the claim into pressing charges. She says it was made clear that pressing charges would affect her career including being relocated from Canberra to the Gold Coast or back to WA. Pretty clearly a demotion and would never have seen Canberra ever again, which is where political staffers want to be.

Had she been actually supported to press charges instead of it being framed as a career killer, then future assaults may not have occurred. And this young lady wouldn't have been punished as the victim. Instead, he gets a job with Big Tobacco (through LNP contacts and including recommendations) and her career is over. If you think that's a case of a great outcome well achieved, then there's something wrong with you.

And yes, I hold Parliament up to a higher standard than Big Tobacco.

I don’t think it’s a great outcome, it’s been very poorly handled rather than the cover up by the PM himself being alleged here.

But your comment was about how decisive the company was in sacking him when that’s exactly what had already happened!

And yes no one should have to choose between their career and seeking justice. Working in an extremely male dominated workplace, I’ve seen it plenty of times where women take whatever abuse comes their way because they know if they complain they’ll be ostracised and lose their dream career.

Unfortunately when our organisations tried to investigate, the union blocked it. Great culture here!!!

they told her to choose the party or leave. dont bring false equivalence into this

I'm basing it on how you would have handled it, nothing else.

then let me reword - you guarantee her following through on this with a formal complaint with the AFP will not cost her a job in govt

FFS your defending effectively forcing her out of her job just for wanting her rapist convicted

'not aware' the liberal party version of 'i don't remember' that the ALP used?

Crooks the lot of them

In not doing any of that. It was a response to your way of handling it - saying you definetly won't lose your job if you report the rape.

What if said rape turned out to be a lie, would she keep her job? Your blanket rule isn't suitable.

(Again, I'm not implying she wasn't r*ped, I believe her)

This came from twitter I hope its not true

This BASTARD LNP government announced an enquiry into #BrittanyHiggins’s rape BUT HAVE NOW VOTED IN PARLIAMENT TO KEEP IT PARTISAN AND SECRET. How in the hell can they claim to care for women when they refuse to even hold an open, independent enquiry?

Holy sh*t.

And to think Morrison has already used his facebook, vaccine, Jenny says, father of daughters, chicken coup, Cronulla Sharks jersey and Australia jersey distractions.

We are about to see some seriously creative distractions.

He's due for a holiday.
