Oh well...
Very disappointing... Carlton did not capitialise on their oppoturnities. But full credit to Richmond, they attacked the ball hard, won the one on one duels and generally shut our midfield down. Well done Richmond, and good luck in your finals campagin.
Richmond won by 11 points, and Carlton choked. After halftime, I think it was that Richmond scored 4 goals and Carlton scored 2 goals and 9 behinds!. Set shots from 30m out being missed... I guess that's what lost us the game. If only 2 of those points were goals... not to be though, and Richmond was the more desperate team on the day, stuck to the game plan, well done.
Worse things came out of this game for Carlton. Kouta's right knee buckled and could be a serious knee injury. Hopefully this is not the case... it would be terrible if he missed the preseason and the chunck of the home-and-away-season. Just terrible
Oh well... I guess this game sums up our season pretty well. Wasted chances, looking further ahead rather than the current game and inconsistency. Will be looking forward to the trades and hopefully we will have a better year next year!
As for the rest of the finals, these are my tips :
Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn - 2nd Semi-Final (FP)
Port look too strong here at their home ground, and with a fast running and good midfield, Hawthorn will be overrun, but will put up a big fight. Port by 30 points.
Essendon vs Port Adelaide - 1st Pelim. Final (MCG)
This will be a very close contest. Lloyd is out, so there is something that the Power can exploit. But Essendon will be way too strong for Port, as the Dons will want to make it back to back, and it's at the MCG. But Port will give it their best shot, and Port has beaten Essendon this year, but so has Essendon against Port. Who knows? There could be an upset, but I am tipping Essendon. Essendon by 4 points
Brisbane vs Richmond (grrr) - 2nd Pelim. Final (Gabba)
Richmond were impressive against Carlton, and gained respect finally from the football world. However, Brisbane will thump them at the Gabba, that's been the story for most teams who have ended up there to play them. Brisbane has a powerful forward line, with one of the best midfields in the comp. Good effort Richmond. Lions by 60 points
Essendon vs Brisbane - Grand Final (MCG)
This one will be a beauty! Two top quality sides, facing each other at the 'G, battling it out for the Flag. This will be a very close game, and Brisbane will have the chance to prove that they can win finals in Melbourne. Lloyd will be back, which will cause great concern for Brisbane. This one will be very close, but I am tipping Brisbane just because:
A) Their midfield seems a tad bit better.
B) Their form may have a say in this issue.
C) Brisbane will want to prove to everyone that they can beat an interstate side in the finals, even if this point doesn't seem as much of a "Why Brisbane will win" point.
D) Missed oppoturnities from Essendon... it happens.
And the most important reason of them all...
E) Because I don't want Essendon to win the flag, which would make Essendon have 17 flags, therefore beating Carlton's flags if Essendon win the Grand Final, thus making Essendon the most successfull team in history.
