Exactly

I dont think you will find 1 Richmond person upset we let him go to St Kilda to continue his career
He was just stagnant and sitting in the reserves at Richmond. I actually mentioned on the Blues board mid way through 2019 that the Blues should go after him and would be a great fit there and was not working out at Richmond but the boy can play

Yeah passing on Butler was a Big Blunder from us, this was a result of the s**t fight between SOS and Cain Middle at the time..

Richmond have let a lot of quality players go for unders (market value) during your premiership reign, which I feel is a credit to your Footy Department and culture.

Jack Higgins looks like another good get for The Sainters.

The club was extremely happy to let him leave and go to the club of his choice and even facilitated the trade by waiting until St kilda finished all their trades and just accepted what ever pick they had left. He was told if he cant find a club they would rookie list him.

After 2017 he had a terrible 2 years and spent most of the time in the VFL, The club that won 2 premierships without him has ample players that play the way we want that is a proven formula for success and Butler wouldnt have made any difference at Richmond in 2020.

Maybe North should have offered him the Dusty money to come over as he would be in your best 2-3 players
Zero chance you trade him if you knew he would be in the 40 best players in 2020. He exploded and was one of the best small forwards in the comp.

Mate you have no credibility with your comments on this , Go back and read what was said and what occurred during that trade period
Richmond were happy to let him leave to stkilda so he can reignite his career and was told to find himself a club and if he couldnt we would rookie list him.
He toured Carlton and decided on St Kilda and didnt even bother to answer norths calls

Go back and read / listen to the St Kilda list managers comments regarding how understanding and facilitating Richmond were to deal with getting him to St Kilda. He went with our blessing and everybody at Richmond is happy for him.

Now can we discuss Shai Bolton in the Shai Bolton thread as it appears you are a specialist in everything thats Richmond

Aarts had a similar season stats wise and wasn't best 22. Offers more hardness run and defensive game too.

Similar to butler not being best 22.

The tigers would be ok losing butler cause george and Daniel Rioli suit the system better.

Bolton, lambert types much better obviously too.

The tigers also had caddy outside the senior team.. who was around top5 in the Coleman not too long ago

Butler >>>>>>> Daniel Rioli.

Not for what we want him to do and thats the defensive pressure side of his game, Butler is better offensively but Rioli defensive pressure is what suits the RFC

This is beyond embarrassing. It would be like us saying we prefer Jed Anderson over Dusty because he is better defensively.

Butler made the AA squad in 2020 - with Dusty, Grimes and Valstuin. Pretty good company.

If you selected Anderson over martin - won the grand final by 100 odd points.

Then, traded martin out , played anderson and won the next grand final... it might be kind of similar

Defence wins championships. As they say in the classics.

It is extremely embarrassing for you , Your Richmond hatred due to jealousy is transparent in every thread you are derailing
This is the Shai Bolton thread and not the dan butler thread. Fact of the matter is he was playing VFL for Richmond for 2 years and was extremely poor when he had a chance at AFL level during this period. what is so difficult for you to comprehend

Pretty much shows the embarrassment of riches we have when one player can get to that level for the Saints but struggled to make the best 22 at Richmond.

Similar to Higgins, I expect him to play well for his new side. I dont think he’s best 22 at the Tigers, and with new blood coming through, a move was best for his career.

Back to topic though, Bolton is a game breaker for a premiership side. He’s not like Butler, Ellis, Higgins, Markov, Lloyd, Miles who were excess to the team and we could win without them (and keep the core of the team together because of it).

Can’t afford to lose this guy, and won’t. Higgins leaving will actually free up $$ to keep players like Shai.

Lots of players explode after leaving a club.

Exactly my point.

Higgins and Butler couldn’t crack our best side when Richmond won a flag. Yet they will be best 22 by a street at the Saints.

The clubs that pick up these players see it as a great win, which is especially nice if it leads them to success.

And it’s nice to see some of our players doing well for other sides when they couldn’t crack a regular game for us (and getting decent coin). Improves the quality of the competition.

The Suns are probably one pacy midfielder short of having the perfect mix. Would explain the interest in Treloar last year. Bolton would fit that absolutely perfectly, would also fit in with the our trade strategy of bring in Richmond players we have seen over the past couple of years 😂. However, I very much doubt he leaves Tigerland.

Would cost an opposition club plenty in picks or players. Won’t leave though
Type of player that’s a cherry on top that thrives in a good team but wouldn’t be someone to build around.
Like Andrew McLeod if he went to freo he would of been a Stephen hill type with no flags.
At Adelaide surrounded by Goodwin hart roo modra rehn he’s a dual norm smith medalist 350 gamer lots of protection and talent on the other end of his disposal.
Look at Kane Johnson when he left the cows.
His size negates his worth and for his own career his better of being around cotch dusty lynch Jack and co because he would be severely exposed playing for crows or kangas

Disagree. He is probably the best clearance player at the club. Had 9 on the weekend with 6 center clearances. Both game highs. He'd star at a lesser club where he would play full time midfield. He often gets squeezed into the forward line to accomodate Cotchin, Dusty, Graham, Prestia Edwards etc.

Yeah he's skinny but as evasive and agile as they come. Massively under rated.

I'm tipping he would find it much harder to get the ball and star at North than Richmond.

Pick in the teens is his maximum value in a trade (and even that is generous)
He’s worth a top 10 pick. What is he not good at? He’s fast, runs all day, can kick goals, can cover 50 metres almost off a step, very accurate field kick, can win both contested and uncontested ball. All this and he’s only 22. He’s the perfect rover in today’s game

In a weak draft possibly, but in a strong draft which is what 2021 is shaping up to be, I doubt it..

The price Brisbane paid for Charlie Cameron (pick 12) seems about fair to me.

Seems happy at Tigerland, would be surprised if he left tbh.

As much as I’d love him at the Pies because he’s a outright gun, realistically there is only one club in the running.

West Coast.

With a few guys like Hurn, Nic Nat, Kennedy etc coming to the end they will probably have cap space.

He’d absolutely kill it over there too. Whether or not they have the currency to get a deal done is another question.

Given we asked our players to take an additional pay cut with a guarantee we wouldn’t use it to chase down a free agent- i think it would be unlikely to be WC. It’s been a while since we’ve been in the first round too so I don’t know what impacts that would have for trading either.

I have been a big fan of his for a while, though, and would love to see him at WC. A genuine clearance player with forward ability and a good kick. He’d slot in nicely.
