What's the most popular sport in the world and how much scoring is there?
Remove the stand rule and I guarantee you scoring will go down almost immediately.
But the stats show the stand rule hasn’t resulted in increased scoring at all. So why would it have that effect instead of just remaining exactly as it was beforehand which is the same as it is now?

Is that the correct average score?Except that is a very simplistic view.
Say this is the average scoring for 5 seasons
2015 - 170 points
2016 - 166 points
2017 - 160 points
2018 - 157 points
2019 - 152 points
so there is a constant and fairly consistent downwards trend, and then the stand rule is brought in and the next 3 seasons look like this
2020 - 152 points
2021 - 155 points
2022 - 151 points
Yes you can say that "scoring has not improved" and you are right, but you would be ignoring the consistent downwards trend before the rule was introduced, and how the new rule either stopped or at the very least slowed down the downwards trend.
Had the new rule not been introduced then the downwards trend would have continued at a greater rate than it did with the stand rule in place.
Is that the correct average score?
Right here - https://afltables.com/afl/stats/yearly.htmlNo, I was just using examples. I am not sure where to find the real version of those stats.

The stand rule is a disgrace that has brought the game into disrepute. You got a player like Dangerfield that shit himself everytime he played against Richmond in a final winning a flag because of a rule change, that should not happen.
Then you got really great players like Nathan Buckley that never won a flag but would've been getting 1,500 metres gained a game, if not more, if he was playing this emasculated version of the game introduced because the handbaggers didn't like the pressure that came from a player manning the mark.
Then you get muppets asking can any of these clowns playing from 2021 be the GOAT
My question is, would Tim Watson be able to debut at 12 years old if the emasculated version of game was being played then?
Here is a comment that I read on the Nick Daicos thread.
If the beautiful game (real football) made it so a wall can't jump up anymore when a player steps up to take a free kick, and then some current footballer started racking up goals from set pieces, should we really be asking if he is a better free kick taker than David Beckham was?
You did do that, but the stand rule suited Geelong more than it did Richmond.
We did win because of the rule book though, our pressure based system hadn't taken the hit it did from 2021.
Yes, mathematically speaking, reactive people look at the function over time. Proactive people look at the derivative of that function.Except that is a very simplistic view.

Rules that need to disappear:
I don't mind the protected area rule however the umps have to use their brains a bit more in determining when a player is actively trying to clog space versus just running defensively on the non-dominant foot side.
- Stand
- 666
- Ruck nomination
- Kick-ins extension
- Interchange cap
Wrong analogyBasketball for free throws.
Tennis for serving.
Free kick walls in soccer.
Invariably the players then get to move as it enters a "play on" situation. The stand rule just does that after each mark, and it ends when play on is called.
Believe the last time the interchange had no cap was in about 2012 and scoring was higher than it's ever been. I think the assumption that scoring increases as players get more tired is bs. If you and your teammates are tired, the last thing you're gonna try is to open the game up. Instead you're gonna try and keep things in tight and contested, or play kick-mark football.I haven't really thought about the interchange, but the first four should all go for sure. Could also shoot the people responsible. Haven't added anything except make the game more 'Auskick for adults'. Once you think of it that way, it's scary how close it is.
The Stand rule hasn't increased scoring at all, and the 6-6-6 rule that was universally hailed as brilliant for the same reason saw the lowest scoring season in 51 years. Before Covid too.
Wrong analogy
