Kallis is an excellent Test player, but even in that form he has been criticised by the likes of Allan Donald, Barry Richards, and Mike Atherton, who says that he is a very good player but will never be considered 'great' because he can't impose himself on the opposition.

In the one day form this becomes a chronic problem, especially in today's world when even a run a ball seems slow now. Kallis may be score quick runs against minnows and attacks that offer a lot of boundary balls, but against any bowling that is reasonably tight he is unwilling to be creative and take risks. This results in a poor scoring rate and it all adds up to Kallis being a liability to his team in one day cricket (his bowling is only average)

They need to use him better.
If SA are 2/25 he is a great option to come in and bat, but if they are 2/170 chasing 350 then put him down the order and let some of the quicker scorers come in.

Also the fact that he is a decent bowler means of course you'd play him, just have to use him better.

Bingo.

In ODI I'd want Gibbs at 3 always anyway.

I think that they can 'carry' Kallis but their problem is having Prince in there as well. Though Kallis can have his pie chucking days, his bowling gives the team flexibility. Prince is only a test player and a match saving one at that.

Won a few matches in the Saffa series V India and Pakistan with good knocks.

Good pressure player.

But he aint a ODI player, scores slower than Kallis.

Duminy? ohh yeahhh.

You answered you're own question FFS.

"Very good player".

And that automatically means he's fit for one day cricket? i'm not in a position to judge his ODI credentials, i haven't seen him play that often, but being a "very good player" doesn't always mean you're fit for both forms of the game.

Stupid thread by the resident stupid man.

Kallis on his day is one of the most defiant batsman of all time. Can be a complete pr*ck to get out. Gives you nothing and bowlers have to be improvising at their best to remove him. Unlike F I don't rate his bowling a great deal as I saw the Aussies destroy him in the two previous test series but statistically and rightfully he will retire as one of the greatest allrounders of all time. Anyone don't like that, have a read through cricinfo. :thumbsu:

IIRC he made a ton and a 50 in the last Aussie series (Only played 2 Tests).

Also averaged under 30 with the ball.
