With the quality of Green and now the emergence of Webster, how do we play both in the same Test side?

What does your side line up like? Taking in mind team balance.

I'm thinking:

Green
Khawaja
Smith
Labuchagne
Webster
Head
Carey
Cummins
Lyon
Starc
Hazelwood/Boland

Webster looked the most convincing batsman on either team through the entire series (humour me).
Head batted incredibly in two innings - but they fed his strengths.
Smith played one of the ugliest innings of his career then played a really good one on a fairly comfy track.

Webster on a hard surface to bat on never looked in any trouble at all and they actually bowled some pretty good stuff to him a lot of the time. He looked like he’d been there for a decade. Who cares if he never bowled a ball again; you’d pick him just to bat based on what he showed

Both are outstanding slip fielders green has the best hands in cricket. Green comes on and get wickets, Webster looks like a good batting all rounder

I say we play the best 6 batsmen in the country. If they happen to be able to bowl as well (which Webster and Green obviously can although injuries a concern with the later) then great.

This is the answer. Although I’m making an allowance for Konstas based on potential.

I’d say currently Smith and Head are certain top 6. Then probably 6-7 arguably fighting for the other 4 spots. If Green and Webster both secure a spot that’s fine with me. Webster looks ideal at 6, Green I think belongs further up the order.

Green at 4 (specialist bat if he is building up his bowling capabilities), Webster at 6.

Absolutely we do if they are top 6 bats like these guys arguably are.

The better question is could we in the subcontinent manage to drop a seamer if we played both and really strengthen the batting?

Something like:

Green
Webster
Carey
Cummins
Murphy
Lyon

If green was fit I reckon that would be enough seam bowling on turners.

What about 3?

Im still convinced Marsh might have a place in test cricket as a smash and grab opening bat that can average 35-40. There's absolutely a place for that in the modern game. Many would argue doing 35 at a SR of 90 is more valuable than a traditional dour opener that might ave 43 at 50SR.

He looked a totally different player opening in white ball cricket when he moved there and was one of the catalysts for his returned confidence.
