Shuey has elite footskills, both right and left side are equally very strong, so to say his right foot is preferred is probably wrong. Would just about be our best right foot kick (bar Hurn/Lecras) and the best kick on the left side (Gaff potentially better).

Not sure about this.

Im a fan of Shuey, his contested ball and his work at clearences has always been excellent but his kicking has always been below average so to be having a dig at Fyfe is a bit rich.

As a junior Shuey's kicking was below average, averaging 56% kicking efficiency for the Chargers and around 60% at the carnival.

Last year in his 6 games for West Coast, he was averaging only 56% efficiency.

Fyfe is not an excellent kick either but to be comparing him on three games and refering to it as a major deficiency is way off. His kicking efficiency was at 60% last year. He had a shocker against Geelong last week which has brought his average down this year, but it will get better. Shuey's has improved this year but again its very early in the season and against better opposition it may slide.

Both going to be great players, lets not start claiming ones the perfect package and the other has major flaws.

Wow just wow. Goddard is the only player in the comp who can kick further and more accurately on both feet than shuey. I would say his kicking is his second greatest strength after his untackleability.

Just off the top of my head.

Mayne is a good player. But by no means a 'gun'.

This is true.

Seems a bit selfish around goals though and doesnt always take the right option in the F50.

This is patently incorrect, he is too selfless.

Reminds me of a much better version of McKinley (ie. more agile and chases, good mark for his size, decent kick).

Back on track.

From what I've seen of Darling so far, would prefer Darling over Mayne though for sure.

Toss of a coin IMO.

ACCURATELY and FURTHER. Those players above can match it in one area not both. I would say none of those are really at the level shuey is with his non preferred. They lack the distance and penetration on their non preferred. Doesn't mean shuey is a better kick but imo his is the second most well rounded complete kick in the comp. Goddard obviously is quite far ahead on just about everyone.

Patronij very quiet after the weekend. Not only does Fyfe knock up 32 possessions, 19 contest possessions, 6 tackles and 2 goals... Chris Mayne kicks 3 goals and statistically is the best defensive forward in the game in 2011.

I havn't watched the game yet. I work on sundays so missed it and need to find time during the week to watch a replay. I dont want to comment until ive watched the game. Fyfe got plenty of ball the week before and i wasn't so impressed. Seemed to hit the scoreboard more this week though and from all accounts had a great game. My main concern with fyfe is his disposal, statistically at 60% is still poor. But i haven't watched the game yet so don't want to comment on his disposal on that game. I know DE% wise it was improved but its normally best to watch the game i think DE is only relevant when looked at aggregately.
It takes more than one game for me to change my mind about a player especially when its a game i am yet to see. I still think mayne is a below par footballer and im not sure what stat you consider makes mayne the best defensive forward in the game. If im not mistaken the most appropriate stat would probably be tackles inside 50. Which ballantyne is leading to my knowledge. Pressure and forward defensive ability i think is also nearly impossible to measure statistically. I would say jack darling is better at pressuring inside 50 than mayne. Their are also others better than him.

Gerard Healy said he was the best defensive forward statistically during the game; he had stats in front of him.

There is no way Darling is better at defensive pressure. While he is good at it, Mayne gets to so many contests in the forward line. Freo's main improvement in 2010 came from setting up a defensive zone and the pressure from Mayne, Ballantyne and De Boer. WC have finally set up zones and applied defensive pressure and look what has happened... you have been far more competitive. The defensive side of a player's game is just as important as offensive side these days. Mayne is a good player offensively and a very very good player defensively.

still reckon tackles inside 50 would be the most important stat if i was gonna analyse the defensive forward role. Pretty irrelevant considering this is a shuey fyfe thread

all you seem to worry about is stats try watching a game maybe ?

really really good comparison..had to really think about it as shuey has been a bit of a west coast revelation this year.

However I think Fyfe has a little magic that Shuey doesnt.

Plus I had him in my DT. from first game he played so I have emotional attachment.
