I'm so in love with Sidebottom and have been so sick of people beating him down for no reason! He has a role and he plays it well. It's days like today where he creates that bit extra that's so exciting. He thinks so different than most footballers.

He got a bit more confidence today and he played well. Super hands in the wet conditions and finished well.

Always have rated him since he kicked the 10 in the TAC GF in 08. Dissappointing to see North ignore him at our pikc 9 and see the pies pick him up at 11 and he has been sensational.

It's a common misconception that Sidebottom is not rated as a player on this forum. I think it stems from us having such a strong team right now. Whenever there are selection debates there are inevitably going to be stiff players brought up in the discussion. Sidebottom who at times lacks consistency between games and is a relative newb to the side gets brought up because of this.

As an aside, it was interesting to see Malthouse give him a spray tonight. Seemed to be because of some poor defensive positioning. Did anyone at the game catch what the issue was?

They approached him last year with an offer but he resigned with us.

Missed 1 bunny but otherwise just a class player. Knows his footy.

They tried to trade for a better pick but it didn't work and the rest is history.

Not lots but there are people who wanted him dropped before the finals, and dropped or subbed now.

It'll eventually disappear. It's like the indifference towards Beams atm. We should support all our players a lot more and leave it to Mick and the rest to tell us who's not getting the business done at selection time and when they speak in the press.

Suggesting a player might be the sub isn't a slight against them. Someone has to be the sub, and it's going to be rotated, most of our midfielders will get their turn and it's likely Sidey will have his before Swan or Pendles do.

Sorry for the intrusion, and this is not a deliberate troll, but I think Sidebottom does a lot of holding and illegal blocking which goes against him IMO.

Apart from that, a really good handy player and would take him at Essendon any day.

People thinking Sidebottom should have been omitted at times this year and last hardly equates to them being detractors of his though.

I think he has been on the verge of selection at times, I'm sure the match committee has considered him on the verge of being omitted at times as well. But I know I still rate him as one of our best young talents, as I'm sure the match committee does.

Alan Toovey has detractors; Steele Sidebottom has people who probably expect a little more from him than what is reasonable considering his age and relative inexperience.

And seriously, this is a fan forum, not a cheerleading convention. Supporters come on here to express their opinion about every facet of the game, good and bad, that is naturally going to include the selection of the senior team.

Yes he has.
Not many mind you but its the same posters that are always waiting for him to have an average game just like last week to stick their boots into him. Even after today's terrific effort people are saying he should minimize the gap between his worst and best. Expecting a 20 year old kid to produce GF like performances week in week out is very unrealistic to say the least. He might reach that level in a year or two though

he has a big tank and goes forward and back better than any other player.

Another great game from one of the best young players in the AFL.

Many forget we may have lost the drawn GF if not for Steele (and several others), and again tonight he showed what he is capable of.

I never really worry when Steele has an average week or two, because you just know he will recover his form eventually, he's one of those players you simply do not have to worry about.

And come September (and October), Steele will thrive in the big games, just you watch him.

I understand that but it's the way it's said, it's a demotion not a rotation or a way to use his spark when he may come on. It's an example, not the only way people try to downgrade his importance, etc.

I said he could be the sub this week but my view is different to what gets put forward.

Very well put. I'm so glad you put this Toast up. Hopefully everyone can start moving on and just enjoy the great players we have. So exciting to see a guy (you hope) will play for another 200+ games.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this and I'm not sure what to make of it.

All I know is Sidebottom is a very fair player who seems to always run around with a smile on his face.

Logged in to Bigfooty for the first time in a while to read Sidebum has detractors?? IMO the lad is a class act, ok he's young so will have some flat spots but he is not only the future of the club but the very example of why we have so much depth
