Just looking through my mighty 1973 courage book of VFL finals and was looking at the interesting statistic of finals played down at Corio / Kardinia - 1???

Now I don't know if this is correct, but the fact that we currently don't and haven't played any finals football at the very home of our football club still greatly disturbs me.

Given the redevelopments, and future redevelopments - surely we must be pushing for finals footy. This has to be our motivation, imagine the advantages> The best surface, the best crowd, the minimal stadium costs and the ease of access for our memebers!!!

Has Cook or Costa made any comments about a desire to play finals footy in the future down at Skilled? I mean they are talking about hosting World Cup Soccer finals and yet we can't get a look in for our own footy team????? Just imagine it - getting the Collingwood footy club down to a 45 000 capacity Skilled stadium in a preliminary final - not sure of the cost analysis, but a capacity Skilled game must be close to raking in the same dollars (profit for club) as an 80 k MCG crowd with high stadium costs etc...

Depends if the proposed redevelopements actually bring about the stated capacity. Supposedly the new premiership stand raised capacity to 31,000 but we can't even get 26,000 fans in.

If KP can get to 40k with the new stands completed by 2020 then finals should be an option in Geelong, it will definitaly be a sell out!

Will never happen. AFL has a contract with the MCG to play a certain amount of Finals games at the MCG. With the growing number of Interstate teams means there is greater likelihood that these teams will earn the right to home final meaning it will become harder to meet this agreement. Geelong will always play its home finals at the MCG for this reason. Personally, I don't have a problem with it, after all the Grand Final is played there!

it should only happen if we were playing an interstate team (or north melb :D) and only if the ground had enough seats available for members.

I'm personally of the belief that the more we play at the G in September the better.

No offense Gaz Brownlow but if this is what "greatly disturbs" you when we are flying on the park and the club has never been administered better then you really need to chill out. BTW. What do you care if you are in Indonesia??

That statistic is true, but our only home final was way back in 1897, when they had a round robin format to determine the premier. Wasn't a good day for us either, as we lost that game to Essendon by 6 points, 3.11.29 to 5.5.35, and Essendon went on to win the inaugural VFL/AFL premiership.

What I was referring more to was the historical sense.... we have played a total of 1 final in 1897 at Geelong!!! That is disturbing....for a 150 year old club to have played 1 home final in its history is dissapointing.

I believe, given the emphasis placed on SS being a world cup venue and having the redevelopments in scope that it is a distinct possibility that we could expect at least 1 final against say an interstate club.

I understand the MCG arrangements, and to tell the truth it would be great to play every final - home or away - there. However, this is unlikely and if the alternative was a final at Ethiad, then why not SS?

Would have been nice to pencil in another final and acknowledge the contribution of Kardinia and Geelong Town within the history of football.

With contracts with the G and considering the AFL has done deals with the Dome to get better distributions I doubt it will ever happen , no matter what our capacity.

It would have to be some sort of freak occasion , like the AFL change it to final ten , all finals in Melbourne and we play an side like GoldCoast with not much in the way of support.

I wonder what our lowest finals crowd has been in the last 50 years. One must remember over half of our members come form outside the Geelong area and the AFL will always go with the money option.
