Dawes is coming in for ANZAC Day. I know it, you know it.

So which of the two Gwyneth Paltrow-inspired realities is likely to be MM's preferred one?

The sandy haired Josh Fraser making way, or the jet black locks of Leigh Brown?

*I know there are actually 20 other players who could be dropped, but I want to see what people think if forced into a choice between these two.

I went Fraser as I think that he needs to find some form in the VFL. He is best 22 but is in shocking form.

Dawes could back up in the ruck however having Leroy around will help cover their forwards as well as having another option to pinch hit in the ruck.

I think realistically that both Brown and Fraser should be dropped for Dawes and N Brown/Reid however that is just me

If Dawes doesnt come in this week i would be very disapointed because i remember last, i think it was round 8 aganst Fremantle, Mick picked Dawes in the team and he was terrible in the VFL for a month prior to be picked so what more does he have to do this year to get a game. I am not so confident he will play this week simply becuase he would have to replace Fraiser or Brown and Mick doesnt have the balls to drop them.

Out fraser,toovey

in dawes,barham

dawes can usually get to the contest,which fraser dos'nt seem to do lately.he also has a physical presence and if he cant mark it at least brings the ball to ground which should help our small forwards no end.
Barham has got all the attributes,unlike toovey who has few,the bigest criticism of barham was his kicking which has
improved out of sight.

I think Dawes has earned a spot for the big game, I also think it's a good chance for Reid to come into the side, with Gumbleton (197cm) up forward for the dons, a good chance to play a big game and one that he could gain some real confidence from.

Mcaffer > Dawes
Brown > Reid

Can't really see a first gamer coming in unless Toovey or Lockyer were dropped, with possibly Buckley or Blight replacing one of them but doesn't look likely.

Wheres the Tarkyn Lockyer option?

He is just as likely to be dropped for Dawes, as he doesn't really play as a small forward anyway (chasing, tackling etc), he is more of a mark, kick and goal forward.

My preferences for being "dropped" though are;

1. Leigh Brown
2. Tarkyn Lockyer
3. Josh Fraser

We simply can not play either Lockyer or Brown against Essendon, they are too quick for both of them.

I went for Brown being dropped, only because it's pretty much unofficially Josh's "Stand and Deliver" game.

If he can't rise for this, he's pretty much sealed his fate for the rest of the year.

Brown has been thereabouts with Josh, form-wise, but has given away more frees and had less presence on the ground excluding the Dogs match. Was poor against the Hawks. At least Josh was slightly dangerous up forward and contested the ruck.

Cue John Mcenroe - "you CANNOT BE SERIOUS." Fraser has been limp. Brown hasn't been much chop either, but does get physical which has been useful against your Lions, Dogs etc.

Bloben I think has the right idea - both out for Dawes and Reid.

both fraser and brown should be dropped. sends a statement to the rest of the players that no one is a certain starter.bring in dawes and either reid/n.brown. dawes can do the extra ruck work as he did late last year quite well. by the way does anyone honestly think we can win a premiership with both leroy and fraser in the side, i dont. thats why its time to get plenty of game time into dawes, reid and n.brown. if fraser and brown go back to vfl and dominate then they will be back sooner than later but i think they are both past it.

Against Essendon we don't need the depth in the backline to cover their pretty average forwards, but we do need a second ruckman to take on Hille/Ryder. Brown out, Dawes in.

Leroy. I think Josh will play as the 3rd tall forward/flanker which is his best position if playing in the forward line. Josh is not a Key Forward.

Still think we may bring another tall down back probably Reid over N.Brown. Only issue is we lose a bit of run and carry although Reids' disposal by foot would be among the best from our current backline.

If we don't bring in that key back, who matches up on Hurley & Gumbleton?? Don't know, will leave that for another thread, so not to side track this thread.

Dawes is a beast. Let him loose and just tell him to be agressive and use that big frame of his to crash some bodies and cause some spillages for our smalls. He doesn't need to mark everything, just get to the contest.

Not SUre as both really Deserved to be Dropped.

Well It depends if Leroy is going to play as a KPD and If he does then I guess that Means Fraser but Bombers have 2 rucks in Hille and Ryder so they may think we need 2 Ruckman and that means Leroy is Droppped.

But Remember with MM:rolleyes: Dawes is not Certenty to play:mad:

Actually that would be a Very Smart Idea with Reid Playing on Gumby who is out of Form

I agree with Bloben but that's unlikely.

I think Jolly should spend more time in the ruck pretty much solo with one of the other talls providing a chop out option. So which ever player stays will playing as a key position option and providing some ruck relief. Brown is the better and more versatile key position player of the two and so he gets the nod.

Mcaffer a better key forward than Dawes?

Brown a btter matchup than Reid for Gumbleton?

Umm dont think so. What has Brown done lately for you to come to that conclusion? In my book he has done bugger all. Maybe Nathan needs a run in the seniors but that will be a bit unfair to the other blokes who have been doing well in the VFL if he gets the nod ahead of them.

He had two shots at goal with marks from leads, so that's not a bad thing.

But perhaps 'dangerous' wasn't the best choice of words, unless 'dangerous' is like the slightly browny, bad-tasting edges of a fridge-sludged-lettuce :D

Now Dave, just stop that knee-jerking there, you'll have someone's eye out.

MM has played Dawes before, and he'll be releasing the beast again. He's been on record saying he didn't think that Dawes had the fire in him, so perhaps he's been holding him back specifically for a game like this where he does have to show his mongrel.

And after all, if MM wasn't keen to play him would he have taken to the field against Adelaide in '08 finals?

I may be wrong here, but i think he may have meant the equality symbols to act as arrows.
I.E Macaffer --> Dawes
(to)
L. Brown --> Reid
(to)

If not, then your point is completely valid

I think Brown will stay in, leaves us too exposed in the backline if we drop him.

I'm just hoping Fraser makes way, I think we can survive quite easily with Jolly + part timers doing the ruck. I'm just praying we don't push someone like Macaffer out for him.

Dont discount Mick blooding a first gamer this week. He is known for giving players a "baptism of fire" Id love to see Blair come in.
