Some Questions For Atheists

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Dan Brown's book, Angles and Demons, makes a good point on this issue and is a must read for those interested on this topic.

He says that although god is not evident as a person as such in our day to day lives as some people are suggesting as the reason for him not existing, why can't he be here in some way. Science has come up with many ways to down play religion and prove using laws and formula why things exist. Although every time something is proven it opens up an endless stream of more questions.

Why can't all that be Gods work? Why couldn't he had set up the world full of formula and science so that to keep us interested but at the end of the day what we really want to know and what science's goal is to find out... "Why are we here?" That is the ultimate question and one religion, not science has the answer to. That at the end of the day is the key.

God exists purely on a spiritual level. He is not a person or animal as such. He is who and what we are. He is what is beautiful and ugly in his world and what gives billions of people around the world hope. Atheists are just lost soles hoping for an answer which will never come.

One thing that always makes me laugh. Go and tell C.S Lewis, Tolkien or even my favourite author from whom I derive my username(if they were alive) that they are unintelligent for believing in God. Crime and Punishment does a great job of undermining Neitzche's theories. Read it sometime.

C&P is a novel, a good novel but a novel all the same, it doesn't disprove Neitzsche's arguments found in a genealogy and the antichrist, he sourced most of his points from the bible itself.

That probably the best explanation of 'nothing' that I have ever heard.

If I wanted to explain to someone something that doesn't exist, I couldn't have chosen better words

Sorry med, it aint happening. Christianity is a mental delusion, a neurosis of sorts.

In its literal sense, for sure. But the good thing I've learnt about Christianity is the fact that you get to use your own brains and make your own thoughts and opinions, for example, a Christian can still believe the earth is a billion years old, in fact the only thing a Christians needs to believe in is Christ, thats it, so yes, scientific evidence and Christianity can in fact go hand in hand.

So you don't have to believe a word of the Bible to be a Christian?

Not saying that. For example, if i were to become a Christian heres what I'd believe... The old testament is not a historical documentation of events, but a selected few events/stories to teach the people of that time (2 thousand years ago) about how to be good etc. For today's times the literal meanings arnt so factual because Christ had died for us so that we don't have to continue all the weird things in the old testament. I'd also believe that the 6 days of creation were not 24 hour periods, but representative of Gods glory, that it was actually millions of years ie: dinosaurs etc, for the time God didn't need to explain the intricate processes of how he made the universe (big bang) nor evolution in very small cases. I would however believe all of the new testament.

Jesus told parables and stories, jesus is God, God inspired the bible writers to write the bible. I dunno, I'm basically picking and choosing here as to what is real and what isn't, and i suppose you cannot really do that.

1) If God does not exist then we all get the same feat. Mother Theresa ends up as the same Hitler, and 6 million bugs being killed is equivalent to the holocaust as life is not worth anything.

Oh! "Fate".

To be a christian, you have to believe that God exists. You have to believe that Jesus was simultaneously the son of god and god incarnate. You have to believe that his sacrifice/suicide was for the forgiveness of sins (why God couldn't just forgive them without the blood sacrifice being a question you are forbidden from asking). You have to believe the new testament accounts that contradict each other, plagiarise heavily from other sources and lead on to absolute gibberish (like the book of revalations).

Basically, you have to suspend reason and logic in order to be a christian.

Whether you are right or wrong in this regard, it does not mean that they are devoid of rational thought or intelligence. Just as someone with a phobia of spiders is not capable of rational/intelligent thought.

I find your attempts to try to portray christians as such as a mental delusion, a neurosis of sorts. Therefore, by your own reasoning, you are incapable of rational and intelligent thought.

Hmmmm, perhaps you are onto something there:D

So basically you believe all the parts of the bible that haven't been proven false by science yet?

Okay. Gotcha. ;)

If i were a Christian yeah, that would be the logical way to go. I'm not a Christian, but if i were, i guess i would lose faith is science proved Jesus wrong (the only part i would take for accuracy)

I'm just saying i wouldn't tell people anything science has discovered is wrong.

EDIT:with "yet", there isnt anything else yet that science can prove wrong, they've proved wrong all things possible, theres nothing left scientifically.

This crap about the earth being 1000's of years old is only put forward by fundamentalist nut jobs. No one believes the world is 1000's of years old, the pope said the OT is not to be taken literally. The problem with people looking into Christianity is that they know very little about it and thus make stupid comments that just make them look bigoted.

The bible makes no claim to the age of the Earth, rather fundamentalist preachers have. Please do not put all Christians in the same boat as those people.

complete tosh

There is reason to believe Jesus existed.

Irony: a Richmond supporter lecturing others on mental delusion.

Ahh med, outside the Left Heglians, everyone thinks Jesus was alive. Difference being, Christians actually listen to the idiot, me on the other hand, well the less said about Jesus' ramblings the better.

If you can actually pinpoint any part of Christian theology or ethics that is in any way sensible, then I'll change my mind.

Oh I forgot, you don't actually have to believe in that, infact you can be an agnostic who doesn't follow Christ's word at all and be a Christian! Amazing! A Christian who doesn't follow Christ, what an amazing man.

Read your bible med, if you have one.

I've never actually heard med actually substantiate this extremist reductionist view of Christianity, I mean my reasoning comes from the bible. Med's...

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. [Matthew 7:120]

as for extremist reductionist thats a bit puzzling. You hate literalists but demand that Christians be so. I find that odd to say the least.

So tell us about this 7 day thingy?
That's in the bible, right?

3) My stomach exists for food, my faith exists for what reason?

This question bothers me a lot. It's just so god damn stupid I don't know where to begin.

With out the stomach you can't live. But you can live with out faith.

The stomach is a piece of the body. Faith is...____..i dunno. I have faith The Bulldogs will win the flag - but i can survive with out that.

The stomach is made from physical matter. Faith is not.

Millions of animals have stomachs. Humans are the only ones with faith - at least faith in the Christian god. Although animals might have faith(hope) they can find something to eat and put in their stomach, but that's a different meaning of the word faith then what you were asking weren't you. They have that sort of faith thanks to natural selecton and the insticts to eat so they don't die.

And the Hitler/Terasa fate question....that's just as terrible and needs a book written about it to explain why they have different 'fates'. And no conclusion would come down to 'because God wanted to make one of them a prick'

How do you expect to get non idiotic answers if you ask idiotic questions.

You think the four gospels comprise of one verse? Come on med, you aint fooling anyone, especially me, that Christianity is just some fuzzy be a nice guy religion. You can pretend it is but the only person you're convincing is yourself.

Perhaps one of the dumbest points that Atheists make, why does bad stuff happen? Bad stuff happens because we live on Earth that has its own laws of action. Where would we be if bad stuff didn't happen? Think about it, honestly. How can stupid can someone be to pursue this idiotic line of questioning? LOL at intelligence levels of some people

And thats the same reason good things happen...religious nutters and god botherers like you are brain washed sheep ..and you have the temerity to question others intelligence.
Stupid stupid thread from a stupid stupid person .
