My son is booked to go to Amsterdam for 3 weeks, on his first trip O/S & has really been looking forward to it, he flies out Xmas night. He rang me last night saying he came off his bike & hurt his elbow, so I told him to go to the hospital, result, broken elbow, arm in plaster for 6 weeks, this is the first broken bone he has EVER had, he is still going on his trip though. :)

So, just wondered if anyone else has made plans to do something they have really been looking forward to & then something goes wrong & ruins, or nearly ruins those plans.

Tends to happen when you need it least.
Hope nothing happens to me in the next few weeks, like I have mentioned before, I fly to Amsterdam on the 18th of Jan.

I suggest you don't go bike riding for a while then. ;)

God I hope not. Flying overseas in two weeks (never been out of Aus either), by myself. Seems like quite a few people will be in Amsterdam :p, I'll be there for all of two hours on the 28th December.

You should have organised to stay a little longer than 2 hours :)
It's a nice place. I'll only be there for about 4 days.

In grade two I was swinging around a pole in the front section of school, came off and landed on my knees sliding across loose and rough gravel, mixed with a liberal sprinkle of smashed glass.

Not good for tender young knees and was rushed off for stitches, and in the process missing my mates 8th birthday party that afternoon.

I was pretty sad about that.

When I used to be a dancer, i managed to break one of my toes a week before I was meant to have a ballet exam. Had to postpone it for 6 weeks while my toe healed

When I was in grade 5 our class put on a performance of "The Wizard of Oz". I had been chosen to play the tinman and practised religiously for five weeks. About three days before the performance I came down with the chicken pox and someone else had to take my part. :(

When I was younger a friend of mine who is an only child invited me to go away on holidays with her. Her family was well off, I didn't have pay for anything so was really looking forward to it.

2 days before we left I went swimming on a 45 degree day and my face got so badly sunburnt that it was covered in disgusting blisters.

Had to spend the entire holiday in the hotel room :(

I cracked my elbow 3 days before my 10th (? I think) birthday.. I was also going to Queensland for 10 days a little while later.. despite the elbow I still managed to go on a waterslide.. while in Queensland.

Unfortunately for him, bike riding is the most common form of transport in Amsterdam! Hope he can ride one-handed!

Tell him to visit the Bulldog while he's there... ;)

What's the Bulldog?

He knows that about the bikes, that is one thing that impresses him about the place, anyway in 2 weeks he should be able to use the arm slightly, as long as he doesn't put too much strain on it.

Me discovering I don't have Windows Media Player installed half an hour before the draft and it taking a million years to download. Incredibly frustrating and happens every year without fail. Not that it compares to anything here but its a ********ing nuisance and I just don't seem to learn.

Realising I've gone all the way to the city for a night out with my girlfriends at a certain pub with certain male friends and have forgotten my ID card and by the time we drive all the way back home and come back again the place we were intending to go will be shut and there just isnt any point.

The bus being an hour late so I'm late for an extremely important meeting which will determine whether or not I get a promotion. Said event made me incredibly ********ed off and so I headed off to the next bus stop in the hope that the bus would come...200m from the bus stop and the bus pulls up...here I am sprinting along in high heels waving my arms like a mad woman and almost on the verge of crying because this promotion means the world to me and there was NO way I was missing that bus. Thankfully I caught it and I got my promotion :)

Had a district hurdles race against (among others) Mo Zeed, as I'm getting out of the car mum goes, "don't get hurt, you've got basketball finals coming up". Result - I had the comment on my mind the whole morning and ended up fracturing my pelvis.

How in God's name do you fracture your pelvis?

Well I could probably think of a couple of ways, but hurdles isn't one of them.
