Shall we take bets (irony intended) on the next group that catman blames for this scandal? We've already had feminists and politicians.

$1.95 - Andrew Demetriou
$2.40 - black people
$10 - Hamas
$501 - suppliers of PEDs and organised crime syndicates

USADA have had a hard on for Lance for years.

While I dont really agree with the way they targeted Lance (arguably they had a lack of evidence), they have ultimately been vindicated I guess.
There was plenty of circumstantial evidence though, reading up on Lance Armstrong's doping history leaves you quite stunned as to how he managed to avoid being caught and branded a cheat for so long.

John Worsfold is a pharmacist.
Apparently the drug trail in some aspects has been traced back to China.

Some mental gymnastics could be implemented there.

True.

It's kind of funny because Lance Armstrong is the most drug tested athlete in history.

Okay let's re-frame the market. There's been some late money for Vlad too.

$1.85 - Andrew Demetriou
$2.40 - black people
$3.10 - John Worsfold and other pharmacists
$10 - Hamas
$16 - Amish
$1001 - suppliers of PEDs and organised crime syndicates

Always said he never tested positive - but he actually did.

I joked in one the other threads that somehow the Gillard government would be blamed for this. OP is deluded partisan fool.

In the USA, USADA went after Lance Armstrong. I noticed that this happened while the U.S. election was going on.

Now, this whole sports drugs thing has happened just days after Julia Gillard called the election.

Coincidence?
Kids, this is what happens when you drink and post late night threads.
So don't be a bloody idiot.

In other words, do these drugs companies investigate these cases, and do it with an upcoming election, so that they can hit the govt up for more funding, and then use their latest "prize" as evidence of their improtance, and to get the media and public onside.

How could Obama or Rhomny turn down USADA needing more funds when they had just caught Lance Armstrong?

Let's see ASADA have finished their investigations by September, and then lean on Gillard and Abbott to pledge more funds towards them, and use their latest "prizes" of AFL teams and players to gain public support.
Or, more cynically, has the government / Juleeeya engineered this hot topic coming out now to deflect attention away from the government's poor ratings? Afterall, there is NOTHING bigger in Australia than sport, and AFL is No.1.

Or, even more cynically, why not engineer it to be closer to the election? We're still seven months out from polling day.

I've had people try to tell me that our failures at the Olympics and the slump in form of the cricket team is the gummint's fault, I'd hazard a guess that OP is one of these types. Guys, we know you hate the government, but they are not responsible for every malady afflicting Australia.

I highly doubt that- lance did a very good job of convincing people that he'd never tested positive in x amount of tests, that he got tested all the time etc etc. And everyone believed it. Or wanted to, at least

I have no problems with what USADA did in going after lance. What's the point in going after a few small time dopers when the biggest fraud in the history of organised sport is still out there?
Not to mention the livestrong crap- that was worse, if anything.

This story has only just begun.
Exactly.

If it turns out to be mostly nothing, then people won't give two shits about it seven months from now.

If you want to be a cynic or conspiracy theorist or what have you, it would be more appropriate if this came to light a few days before the election and we had Kate Lundy making the 'we will find you' threats as part of the image that the government really cares about sport. It could then turn out to be mostly nothing, but by then the election would already be done and dusted.

What is coming through very loud and clear, at least on the east coast, is that it will NOT turn out to be "mostly nothing". If it was a beat up, you would not have the heads coming out so strongly and so grimly. Mark my word, this story isn't going away any time in the forseeable future.
