In saying all of this, I realise Collingwood will have a stronger side tomorrow (Buckley, Fraser and Rocca are handy inclusions) than the one that played last Anzac Day. So that also must be taken into consideration.
However -
Last Anzac Day the following players were in our side that are no longer on our list, Marc Bullen, Ben Haynes, Justin Murphy, Ted Richards, Ty Zantuck.
The following players also played that in reality have been forced out of our best 22 due to the improvements of some younger players and the recruitment of Campo and Heff - Aaron Henneman, Mark Bolton and Damien Peverill.
In reality we will take 8-10 players into this game that are better footballers.
Monfries, Bradley, Watson, Slattery, Winderlich, Lovett-Murray have all improved their games significantly, the first four in particular. They were all on the list last season but didn't get a game.
Heff, Ryder weren't on the list. You'd like to think Heff can give us more than the likes of Bullen and Haynes. You'd also like to think that
Ryder would give us more in the ruck than Henno.
Hille also didn't play because he was out injured.
Laycock also played, and was very good. Would love to have him tomorrow.
But the reason I had a look into this came about because Matthew Lloyd kicked one goal on Anzac Day last year. One goal.
Maybe it's just blind faith, or over-excitement but I really believe we are a huge chance tomorrow. In fact I really believe we will win.
Sure, Matthew Lloyd is a huge loss, but we kicked 17 goals the last time he didn't play. Collingwood are a much better side than last year, granted. But so are we. In 12 months we could have as much as 10 changes to our selected side, that's a big turn around.
Or maybe I could have saved myself from typing all of that and just said - James Hird.
