Thanks kerrbz been looking for that. Sega has been taking down every youtube video posting this within the hour it was uploaded.

The music sounds like 90s Sonic which is awesome.

It looks just as fast and has similar momentum physics to the Mega Drive games but they really need to fix the running animation because it makes it look like he's slow.

Agree. It looks very promising and hopefully they will work on running motion to make it look more realistic.

I really hope this title lives up to expectations. Hopefully Sonic Team have learnt what Capcom did right with Street Fight IV, gave it a modern HD generation look and while maintaining the old SFII spirit.

Anyone else pick this up tonight?

I honestly am not that impressed with it....Why can Nintendo do so well with Mario yet Sega really struggle with Sonic?

I'm not minding the game so far...but it just really hasn't impressed me.

Why don't they make it properaly and actually sell it for PS3, 360 etc, rather then making it DL only... *facepalm*

fail.
Cheaper, not having to justify a price of $100 for what would most likely be a short story mode anyway. What's the real issue between buying it in store and downloading it anyway?

Anyway, in giving the demo a go tonight...

First thing you notice is the awesome sounds, it sounds like old school Sonic. Soooooo tasty! Entering into the game...and again it looks and sounds like old school Sonic! It's a little bit bulky though, everything is very big, which is strange.

Gameplay wise it's much of old school Sonic as you could get. Simplistic controls, plenty of different paths to go in the one level, plenty of rings to collect. Hopefully they have some of the awesome mini-games of past Sonic's and this will be receiving a purchase from me as it's a very good little demo.

"purchased" this on the Wii, finished it and got all the chaos emeralds. For a game that is supposed to follow sonic & knuckles they left alot of stuff out like the mini stages from the checkpoint posts and the different shields :( playing as super sonic in every level is still awesome

game also felt too short and easy, thankfully it didnt cost me anything, hoping episode 2 is a bit more content heavy

No real point raising one's expectations for Sonic games anymore, those bastards at Sega don't have a clue what they're doing.

amer,

I am a Sega Fanboy such as yourself. (I take it you are one going by your avatar). Saturn and DC are my favorite consoles.

But this game has really been a let down. It feels like they got Sonic 1 and made him 3D yet kept everything else the same. I'm sure that it wouldn't have been that hard to create some decent new levels instead of the same old crap from 20 years ago.

Mario games have kept on renewing themselves and being awesome to play while Sega have lost their touch and have NFI what to do. :thumbsd:

It's probably the best sonic game since S&K IMO. Still probably a 7/10 game only. I hope the later episodes bring in more stuff like more shields, fresh stage designs (not throwbacks).

The music captures the style of the old music however just doesn't quite pull it off at all.

Unfortunately when Sammy took over they revamped the company's entire management structure, and ripped people from places they shouldn't have been ripped from. A lot of quality dev talent was lost after the plug was pulled on the Dreamcast as well. It was quite alarming to read a while back that some of their finest programmers and concept designers who remained were moved to positions that gave them virtually no input into software development, and that the situation hasn't changed today. Tragic, because Sega for so many years blazed the trail with some of the most creative and generally fun to play stuff out there.

And yeah, wouldn't say I'm a fanboy, just a bit of a nostalgia tragic. The 90s and early 00s formed a golden age for mine.

Theres a new trailer for episode 2 on Gamespot which shows a bit of gameplay.

Seen the screen shots last week...Looks much better this time round but I'm not getting my hopes up until I play it.

P.S I made an Episode 2 thread a while ago.
