Surely we have made an offer to Bailey to see if he wants to come.
Brisbane is going to be impossible to deal with on this one after the valuation they had on AhChee.
Our offer needs to blow them out of the water.
If he has a big year next year as many are tipping Brisbane will not make it easy...remember they have so much talent they can trade out very good players to open up cap space. Big difference between a RFA and a FA.

Pick1?????

How far down the premiership table do you expect us to fall?

A strategic move to get Zac Bailey?

He meant future first round pick, not pick 1.
Surely that wasn't that hard to figure out.

How is their Cap space? That's where we need to outprice them.

Wrong !

You don't like coming into threads by back reading recent posts .....this is just a pure fictional post, with no basis
Its technically right. The contract can be altered after drafting, but if the salary is lowered, whatever he nominated will still be the figure that counts towards the salary cap.

George said “I’m not giving up a future first for this draft………I reckon our future first round pick will be a decent pick”

This year we finished 5th and our first round pick was initially number 14 which with the usual AFL shenanigans will finish up around pick 20. No one has suggested that this is a decent pick and we will get our hands on an elite player.

The clear inference is that we will drop down the premiership table and get a “decent” pick next year. I simply asked George how far he expected us to fall. Pick 1 might invite accusations of tanking but is a top ten pick (after the usual shenanigans) a possibility?

I’ve said it a few times, I’ll explain it again for you Ciao. I believe we will carry some mental scarring from our capitulation in the finals, straight sets, failure to win a quarter, midfield exposed, Nicks coaching stupidity evident for all to see.

Throw in a tougher draw, we won games by holding on against a barrage like we did against Brisbane and Collingwood, other teams on the improve and will we have such a healthy list?

IMO it won’t take too much for us to finish 9-11 and get a top 10 pick and the draft won’t be as compromised with the changes, hence “decent” pick. No suggestion of pick 1, that’s moronic.

I picked us 3rd for the year, we finished 5th. My concerns about Nicks stupidity hurting us in finals came to fruition. Let’s hope I’m wrong this time.

And this is where I came from, we pay a shit load up front and then he signs an extension on cheap money, so overall the contract is the same. We didn’t get NWM so we have bucket loads of cash.

You picked us to finish 3rd ??

Thats remarkably...... optimistic, given your total distain for the coaching staff.

Agree - The reality is we really wont get materially better next year. Ah Chee will be a nice role player, but lets face it - we didn't address our biggest area of concern being the midfield. This talk of 'organic growth' is just buzzword crap the club needed to pull out to save face.

We will get a harder draw next year, unlikely to have another dream run with injuries and teams all around us (bar maybe Pies) acquired players and look significantly better. Throw in more 'Nicksing' and I'm not super convinced we make top 4 let alone the 9.

Brisbane - Draper, Allen and will get a top 5 Academy kid in Annabelle. Ridiculous, they will be top 4 again.

Sydney - gave up alot for Curnow but still have an elite midfield and half back line, surely wont have as bad a run with injuries as last year, will get a better draw and players will know Cox's gameplan much better next year. Will be top 8 easily.

Fremantle - some shrewd role player pick ups, have an elite midfield and a maturing forward line. Would be staggered if not top 8.

Hawthorn - Didn't get Merrett but if they can keep Will Day fit and get maybe 40-50 goals out of Gunston next year, will easily be top 8.

Gold Coast - Absolutely stacked now, will get 2 top 10 academy guns and adding Petracca is just cream on top. If they have a reasonable run with Injuries, the AFL's love child should be top 4 next year.

GWS - Oliver an interesting pick up but you would back in Kingsley to iron him out as hes' done with Hogan and Stringer. Still a very very good team on paper, hard to not see them making top 8.

Pies* - The most interesting one, personally I can see them sliding next year as will lose some depth players and obviously no elite young talent coming through. Hard to see Pendles/Sidebottom etc etc playing more than 15 games next year. A lot relies on the Daicos'

Bulldogs* - If they can sort out their key backs and stiffen up, SURELY they will be top 8 with a ridiculous midfield and forward line, if they get Weightman back fit their forward line has a new dynamic.

*Carlton & St Kilda - These teams will be intriguing watches next year - I actually don't mind the 'ins' of Carlton as makes them look more mobile and dynamic. Their forwardline will be less one dimensional next year too. St Kilda i think will surprise a few and pinch a few big games catching teams off guard, their midfield is still an issue but if they get Phillipou fit and Flanders comes good, could be interesting.

** So there you go, the teams ive put an asterisk against are the ones I think we will be fighting against to just make the 8. Make no mistake, after that finals debacle, nothing is guaranteed at all next year for us.

I think people are putting too much weight into our finals capitulation and failure to address our midfield.

This is a team that only lost 5 games for the year in the H&A. Won more games than any other team.

Beat Brisbane, Collingwood, Hawks, GWS, Gold Coast and WB with our terrible midfield. Yes we’re lucky to win a few of them but we were also unlucky to lose the Hawks and GC away. Could have just as easily been 20-3 season.

We took a lot scalps we haven’t been able to do for close to a decade.

I do this minor premier was the worst thing that could have happened. It was there for the taking, and with not playing finals in 7 years, the team went flat out. Can’t blame the coaching panel for that. Add in the Rankine drama and the team were spent by the time finals came around.

They’ll be better placed next year and will be happy to lose a few for the bigger picture. 4th or 3rd should be the target instead of outright first.

We’ll add Ah Chee without losing anyone of note. We lost Rankine for finals, Rachele for most of the year. We got nothing out of our pick 3 midfielder (understandably).

Meanwhile the teams around us other than Brisbane and Gold Coast stood still. WB still don’t have a key defender (worse than us not getting a midfielder IMO), Geelong still no ruck man and Hawks no midfield depth.

While we need to find a replacement for Berry (maybe Draper or Dowling) the team isn’t far off it.

It’s not all doom and gloom and expect the team to be around the mark again for 2026.

Based on player movements I would think that Brisbane, Sydney, Saints should be big risers.

Collingwood surely start ageing out soon, staggered they did not trade anyone in. Forward line seems quite thin also, struggle to see where they get their goals from.

If Adelaide are rolling with Berry as a key component of the midfield, we are in strife. He is depth at best, no offensive weapons.

Hawks and Collingwood will fall IMO.

Collingwood way too old. Saw it with Pendlebury getting subbed out early in the prelim.

I think Hawks also drop. Gunston had almost a career best year, similar to Tex in 2023. History suggests it’s his swan song and he doesn’t kick 70 goals next year. Lost Worpell without adding to their midfield.

I also think Geelong drop but I’ve been saying that every year for 10 years so won’t bet on it.

Swans big risers. St Kilda will improve but doubt it’s enough to actually completely, more likely 10th - 6th spot.

Brisbane cant really rise too much.

My initial ladder prediction I think I had us 8-10, can’t remember exactly but then I did the ladder predictor. Based on our draw I had us 3rd.

I think we have a very talented list, midfield is our weakness and unfortunately we realised how much so in the finals. Soligo hasn’t come on as hoped, hopefully he does next year because we need him to get to an A grader given our lack of recruitment.

As for our coaching staff, I expected even with the Nicks handbrake, our list and talent would elevate us. I expressed on more than one occasion ;) I was concerned Nicks would **** it up in the finals and he did. I was also concerned that some of our wins exposed glaring issues and we were lucky in some of them. I was labelled negative, unable to enjoy winning and the least deserving person to enjoy a premiership. That flog isn’t around anymore to share his opinion post our capitulation.

So am I negative for thinking we might come back a bit, possibly, but it’s a clear possibility and not one I think is locked in, but a lot is going to have to go right for us to get close to 2025 and unfortunately we’ve seen how far Brisbane are ahead of the competition and that was before their recruits.
