As we would likely pick up 80% of contract there’ll be no first rounder involved
Dees should be giving us a 1st rounder to take on 80% of Oliver's salary.

At some point a club has to draw a line in the sand. Which players on our list will be in our best 23 when we get good enough to win a premiership.
That should be forefront of any LM head every year

long way out. It wont be until after the combine and the leaks start coming through will we get a better idea as to where draftees will land. Ive seen players who were certain top 5 picks this time of year drift out to second rounders. Even Draper was sliding everywhere in the top 10 at one stage. Wasnt Fogarty an example of a players rating doing a massive downward shift as the draft got closer.
Fog had happened months out.

By now - after close to every junior game has happened - we always have a pretty accurate picture.

Cumming might go up and down a bit, but not all the way down to pick 20+, where we'll be.

We surely wont get a top 5 pick with our current draft picks. Can the club honestly sell our 1st next year as a good deal to a club selling a certain top 5 next year?

Im not against Oliver, he was averaging high 20 disposals a game. Could be a nice pick up for us for 100 games. Adds some excellent depth to our midfield.

Butts and 14 to Dogs with 10 and change coming back. Wouldn’t need too much on top of F1 and 10 to get 5.

I don't think it'll be Adelaide not offering Tex a contract... it'll be him saying he wants to retire. I just don't think they've got it in them to do that.

No, we’d have conditions on an extension. That being he’d be a club leader and development coach but SANFL player. Same deal as Thommo. Tex may not be prepared to play SANFL. Tex gets to choose to retire or play SANFL. That’s his choice.

He will never play another SANFL game

Petracca is good mates with ANB and credits Burgess for his career best seasons

He’s also managed by Eddie Betts wife who obviously has an association with the AFC
Not a great one it would seem though.

Realistically if we can get either of Petracca or Oliver we shouldnt hesitate. They know what it takes, can have a fresh start and if we can get their last 3 good years out of them to help us into the window then absolutely we go for it.

Can't always be planning for 6 years from now, especially since we waited 8 to even get a look.

If it helps put us into that real contention it can become a snowball effect where we are seen as successful and other players want to join. It's why Geelong, Hawks and Pies are so successful.

If he refuses to play SANFL, then he’ll have to retire. Sad, my preference was him going out with the crowd and players knowing. I really don’t like the idea that his career is concluded without the pomp and ceremony.

If leaving Melbourne we are actually a great fit

  • Burgess
  • Attracts a big salary for himself
  • He’s coming to a team in the window
  • Adelaide would actually appeal to his On Trac5 … Gather round , LIV Golf , Barossa wine and produce , SA Seafood all suit his brand , add the fact #5 will be available means no rebranding

Just needs to add gold to his brand, already has navy blue and red.

Going out being rated worst on ground in a final wouldn't have been his plan but if he does a lap of honour pregame at our first home game then that will be forgotten.
