I find it odd that SA in particular given the quality of their attack, that they seem to take the ‘play Philander at 7’ option when the conditions are so good for bowling.

Isn’t that the time you should most back your 4 specialists to do the job and try and bat as deep as possible? I know in this case it’s a little bit different as by all accounts they simple don’t know who to leave out of their attack but still. Someone in their attack is probably going to be very underbowled I reckon.

Especially against a side thats got an average batting line up.

Especially against a side thats got an average batting line up.

Exactly. Surely among their staff someone would look at the two line ups, and assess ‘how are we most likely to lose’ and draw the conclusion that they get sent in on a greentop and get shot out early due to a short batting line up?

By the way, for those playing at home who were banging on about preparing green tops for India? This is the EXACT reason Australia were right not to. Because it can make a less penetrative attack suddenly become a lot more penetrative (as it turned out India were good enough to take wickets on all sorts of different surfaces anyway so it didn’t matter)

I think their strategy against asian teams is to stuff their side with a 4 man pace attack, prepare greentops and skittle out the opposition for a lesser score than whatever they score.

It's a risky strategy and one I think they'll need to have a rethink about once it backfires.

Interesting to see Sri Lanka batting Dickwella at 5 and Thirimmanne at 7.

Im not a huge Thirimmanne fan but surely he bats at 5 and Dickwella at 6. 5 is too early for a keeper IMO.

ahaha Thirimanne probably has nude photos of one of the selectors. Can't bat, bowl or field.
Makes absolute sense why SLC is being investigated for corruption.

Because they want to have their cake and eat it too by including Maharaj who's probably close to being the best offie in the world. I think it's important they keep developing de Bruyn, but they also need to have Maharaj in the side as much as possible so as not to stunt his game to being an overseas only pick. Olivier was really the only paceman they could drop and now after his dominance in his last series or two there' now no way they can leave out a quick.

Very impressed for the Sri Lankans to see the eventual scores this morning. Saw the initial stages of play last night with the flurry of wickets followed by Faf & Bavuma consolidating and presumed like many it was going to go the way of the debacle in Australia.

Utter waste of time. SA will fight back and SL will fold under pressure as they do every.single. time lol.... goodbye Sri Lanka you've had your one good day the rest of the series will be back to normal. Gutless batting, terrible bowling, inept fielding and controversy off the field....

*Maharaj is SLA, not an offie. The Goat is still the best offie!

At least wait until those things have actually happened before sticking the boot in.
SA have lost 7 of their last 10 or something at Durban so it’s not a fait accomplit that they will just fight back and smash them

They started the tour ok for the first couple sessions and just folded afterwards. Did the same in NZ except for that one day when Matthews and mendis batted throughout the day. They are pretty terrible right now. Probably our women's team would thrash them

Jesus that's a s**t decision by the umpire - that was clearly going down leg.

And confirmed by the replays....terrible call to not review that.
