Dunstan isn't a great kick otherwise he would of been a top10 pick give him a couple years Saints seem to have fixed Stevens and Ross Kicking give him 2 years
Ross just doesn't have any penetration in his kicking

Dunstan desperation saved a sure Cats goal

Which one? Not being a dickhead here, saw the match and want make sure I am not guilty of confirmation bias - I would love for him to succeed and think he has a high ceiling but the things that stick in my mind wrt Dunstan are not that great.

Hawkins left hand clearly in Dels back with that free kick to Del. The other one he trips and its a non event. Not to mention wasn't it him who got gifted a goal after shoving Del in the back minutes after Paddy got done for a soft nudge to the arm not back?

Selwood seeking out and abusing umpires when he should've been shaking hands with our boys was a disgraceful look for the game and him - especially when he was wrong!

I was one who was happy to drive Seb to Tullamarine last year after years of saying give him time - happy to say I (and possibly the club) was wrong to consider trading him. BOG, with Roo and Steven would be top 3 in the B&F. So mature and strong, amazing effort tonight.

Exactly the reason why Acres needs to be given time. On Blake, anyone else noticing just how strong his is getting through the core? He did have some errors tonight but he always comes to the fore when the game is in the balance.

Gresh, hasn't he got something special. I'm going to ignore the OOF he kicked next to Roo and focus on that sidestep and snap! Wow! Talk about pure brilliance.

Jack Steven, incredible game from him again. So explosive, he is our Danger, simple as that.

Mav, there are moments in a game where Mav gets this look on his face. So determined and gutsy, his leadership is unreal. Love the bloke.

I loved Wrights game for the most part but his game was like his career, brave, fearless, full of hope, injury, kicking error brain fade, disappointed.

Hickey was huge all night, he is as clean as any big man below his knees and was a real threat all night.

Dunstan, pure stats may not record this but his work in the middle was unreal tonight. He is a big reason why we got on top of Danger and Jelwood. Kicking was off but as important as any other mid tonight.

Others stepped up when required, Minch, Robbo, Joey, Newnes, Sav, Gilbo, Jimmy, Del - we didn't really have a non contributor tonight.

A quiet discreet letter to the umpires association in defence of Paddy, Bruce, Roo and Membrey wouldn't go astray.

I was one of many who probably wiped a few years off my life tonight but the feeling of pride for these boys is real. Smothered handballs, pressure acts, the old one percenters - thats what won it for us tonight.

Can't remember, in the third quarter maybe as it was to my left. It was tremendous though, I don't know how he did it and it was when Geelong had started pushing back.

OK thanks. I'd say I will be watching the whole match at least twice on replay in the next few month (yes, tragic I know) so will look out for it.

No worries, lets leave it for now, my earlier remarks aren't really appropriate for this thread considering the magnitude of the win.

Edit: to the comment directly above.

Not sure what the rules on alcohol are in-season - assume they're pretty tight - but you'd hope that Seb and Jimmy have been allowed a couple of well earned beers right about now.

I just so much admiration for Seb Ross right now, absolutely brilliant again. Can't wait to sit down and watch the replay tomorrow without the emotions taking over, will focus on Weller and Ross.

Fair point

It's hard to grasp the game when you're pulling your hair out!

On a more sober note, I don't mind Dunstan being used as a trade sweetener end of this year or maybe next. He just doesn't seem to own it. OOTF kick for goal when it mattered, same thing in weeks past, I dunno, he just doesn't seem to want it the way a lot of our other younger guys do - for contrast look at the way Jimmy W put his body and soul on the line for spoils and marks today.

I'd like you to watch the replay and pay attention to centre bounces. When I say pay attention to centre bounces I don't mean watch Steven and Ross get clearances - I mean watch the mountain of work Dunstan did all night to stop Geelong guns' influence on the contest.

He does not deserve to cop that criticism. I think his fitness/body still needs work meaning his kicking gets lazy but generally its very good. He wasn't the only one to miss gettable shots. Another hopefully injury free preseason and we will see that side of his game improve.

So proud of the boys tonight! Surely there can't be any questions about spirit or desire, they have it in spades. :fire:

Also, not enough love for Seb Ross on here. Clear BOG playing against the brownlow favourite. I don't think any of us saw this coming, myself included, but boy am I happy to be proven wrong.

See comments above - won't engage on this, it's not the right time. I do agree though that on replay things are much different - my opinion on Blacres has improved markedly upon watching replays vs live.

Gold Coast had to choose between backing Campbell Brown or Maverick Weller...

That's why they are where they are now.

Mav is a leader doesn't need to be captain. Our new Hamill.
Am so glad we got Mav Weller. And I remember some supporters going off their nuts about it. That we didn't want Suns rejects, he was a trouble-maker. Spud. Blah, blah, blah.

He is in the top echelon of team men. Brilliant bloke.

You have no penetration in your grey matter son.

Can you think of a first year Saint who has done more than Gresh in his first 8-10 games, in the last 10 years? Shown more class than Billings IMO at the same stage (ooh controversial Smoke o_O) and to be fair to Paddy - the big guys take longer and can see Paddy is going to be a ripper, so you cant really compare.

The more I see your boy the more I am convinced it is not if but when he becomes elite. He is one IMO who will be the cream that we so desperately need.....just hope we can do the same in the upcoming draft. We need to keep on nailing our first draft pick, (if we keep it)....

Great game tonight!

What a joke with all the hoohaa about the Hawkins non free at the end, was the definite right decision. Feels like both our clubs exist in some parallel universe where we are never the victim of bad umpiring, but the teams we play are always robbed!
