What's with the blue and whit check armbands the Saints are wearing?
Surely not AFL approved. Is it a police tribute thing?

So who decides what causes are OK?
Police gets the nod but cancer is not serious enough?
Pretty ridiculous to make one exception.

Essendon wore green armbands against the Kangaroos (comeback game) in 2001, for environment awareness. I have pictures of this if anyone doubts it, and I'm sure there are pics online.

Yet you can't wear yellow armbands for someone at your club who has cancer. Hmm.

This was a tradition under the previous administration and the new Admin couldnt exactly turn around and stop it but can stop any new submissions

They allow Brisbane to wear that hideous guernsey, but a yellow armband isn't allowed. Weird.

Why The Black And White Armbands

Me and my GF are currently watching Hawks VS Saints and wondering why the black and white armbands???... Also why are some wearing black armbands and some are wearing nothing???

Wasn't the whole reason for the AFL stepping in regarding arm bands b/c a player from either Geelong or Hawthorn decided to wear black arm bands and convince his team mates to follow because his pet died a few years back?

I recall the AFL putting a stamp on teams wearing arm bands after that as every week a team would come out with one on.

Just food for thought.

I think it's great that Gary Silk and Rodney Miller are remembered..
and of course the other officers that have lost their lives in the line of duty.

BUT I do think that it is absolute bull$hit that Essendon are not permitted to wear the yellow armband for cancer.

IT'S A JOKE!
what are the AFL so worried about?
Losing money...well that wont happen...
Hmmm maybe the yellow is going to clash?
Idiots..

Its much easier to say no than have to pick and choose which causes are worthy, of course this is left over from the last administration and thats why it wont be stopped but they will say no to any new submissions

If Essendon cared enough they would go the jumper option, raise alot of money at the same time

Ben Graham was the player. He wore an armband when his dog died [about 1998/99 v Collingwood at SS]

The only thing that the admin can say about allowing blue and white and not allowing yellow is that everyone knows about cancer so awareness doesn't need to be raised but who knows about silk and Miller and other officers who have died on the line of duty.

That is their only excuse and it is pretty farfetched. It's disgusting how the Bombers can't wear yellow for Rama

Not to sound.. unemotional i guess the word might be... but why are they honouring these two policeman? Like has been mentioned before, many have died in the line of work, i just want to know what's so special about them, and how are they related to the AFL.
