Picks around 15 are no "sure thing", like top 5-8 picks are more likely to be and for a team like Essendon, for instance, who probably see their "window" being wide open over the next 4 years (Watson is due to turn 29 before the start of next season, so they'd be going super-hard to win one or more while he is there, I imagine), I would think that someone who has twice been good enough to finish top 3 in the Brownlow and who looks like he could play well for 3-4 more years may be more appealing to them than a speculative pick around 15 in the draft, who may not help them win a premiership. I know I'd be a hell of a lot more confident of Dal Santo helping a team to win a premiership next year, or the year after, than someone who they've just gotten around pick 15 in the draft. I guess it comes down to what price you're prepared to pay to win a flag.No club will give up a top 15 pick for a 30 year old who is not a dominant player or kpp.
Getting Luke Ball probably made the difference between you guys winning a premiership or not the following year and if a team like Essendon believe that a Dal Santo could make the difference between them winning a premiership or not in the next 3 seasons, then I wouldn't think giving up a a pick like 15 to get him would be out of the question. After getting Goddard and Daniher so cheaply last year they may also feel like they can afford to "gamble" a bit more with their first pick this year, with winning a premiership in the next couple of years being what they want to win out of the gamble.
Dal Santo might not be held in all that high a regard on here, but the fact that pretty much every club in the league still puts a hard tag on him every week suggests that they think differently of him and how damaging he is when he gets the ball. Even you guys, who pretty much never tag, went to the trouble of putting a hard tag on him the other week.

Even more pathetic and ridiculous when you consider I'd already responded to it. Well done.
