Obviously without our two injuries and new players it changes the line-up a little. What's you're guess as to what our starting 22 will be (Dodd, Ruffles both injured for half a season)

B: Broughton Tarrant Grover

HB: Duffield McPhee* Suban

C: Hill Ibbotson Mundy

HF: Headland Pavlich Mayne

F: Ballantyne McPharlin Hayden

R: Sandilands Palmer Crowley

I: Hasleby, Bradley, Johnson, Solomon

E: Thornton, Schammer, Morabito, Fyfe, Walters, Pearce, Hinkley, Murphy, De Boer

Pretty good spread of players actually (in our starting 22)

You could even swap McPharlin and McPhee around.

Schammer should clearly be in our best 22.
Grover, Bradley and Solomon are borderline.
Morabito if he gets fit will be a good chance to be in our 22 in round 1 2010

b: Hayden - Tarrant - Broughton

hb: McPhee - McPharlin - Duffield

c: Hill - Palmer - Suban

hf: Mundy - Johnson - Mayne

f: Ballantyne - Pavlich - Headland

r: Sandilands - Hasleby - Crowley

i: Morabito - Ibbotson - Hinkley - Solomon

e: Bradley - Schammer - Grover

- McPharlin has to play in defence, he's just no good up forward. And with Pavlich, Johnson/Sandilands, Headland and Mayne he isn't really needed up forward
- Johnson to play as a forward/ruck, with Sandilands resting up forward
- Unfortunately no real need for Grover, with few teams playing 3 genuine tall forwards, Broughton and McPhee could take the third best forward
- The return of Crowley could make it hard for Schammer, and ultimately I went for the speed of Hinkley over Schammer
- When he is fit, I would have Dodd in my team, which would free up McPhee to go into the middle or up forward

F: Ballantyne Johnson Walters

R: Sandilands Palmer Crowley

I: Hasleby, McPhee, Mundy Deboer

E: Schammer, Pearce, Solomon Grover Bradley Clarke

That reads better to me. A good mix of grunt and class with some flexibility.
Johsnon to relieve Sandi.
McPhee Suban and Duffield can rotate off half back and run through the middle
Walters can run through the middle and push on to a flank. We have 2 smalls and 4 talls/tallish up front.
Our two best backs are there, with some good rebound around them and the young kids who proved themselves (except Morabito) are there, with the depth like Schammer, Solomon and Pearce as emergencies

b: Hayden - Tarrant - Broughton

hb: McPhee - McPharlin - Duffield

c: Hill - Palmer - Suban

hf: Mundy - Johnson - Mayne

f: Ballantyne - Pavlich - Headland

r: Sandilands - Hasleby - Crowley

i: Morabito - Ibbotson - Hinkley - Solomon

e: Bradley - Schammer - Grover
Good effort Chris :thumbsu: my only change would be Hinkley out Bradley in, as we need to have a second ruck option.

B: Hayden - Tarrant - Broughton

HB: Duffield - Mcpharlin - Suban

C: Ibbotson - Hasleby - Hill

HF: Mayne - Pavlich - Mora

F: Mcphee - Johnson - Ballantyne

R: Sandi - Palmer - Crowley

Int: Mundy , De Boer, Bradley, Headland/Schammer

- Grover and Solomon arent up to it anymore. Most likely going to be there last seasons, and id prefer to see a real goer like de boer in there simply because he doesnt deserve not to be in there.
Mcphee can be used as a swingman, but im bit worried that we are going to use him through the middle when its probably not required.

McPhee will obviously take Dodd's vacated spot in the 22. Initially at least.

Morabito is the most likely addition to the 22 from the newbies and I'd expect him to start out in a HF or W role. Bradley would be the most likely omission; Sandilands and MJ can share the ruck duties.

I'd love to see Walters in our round 1 side as well. With Solomon to be the omission. Then again, Solomon didn't play the final two games of '09, is he even in Harvey's best 22 anymore?

Who knows really? I have a feeling we're going to see a pretty experienced 22 more often than not this season. If nothing else, it sure will make this an interesting place on Monday mornings.

Prattsta's Top Tip for 2010:
Ryan Crowley, who, under the 'for every game you miss through injury, your ability increases exponentially' philosophy (see Byron Schammer 2008 pre-season) has become an absolute lock in everyone's best 22 will become one of Fremantle BF's most hated by round 4. His ordinary disposal, combined with every man, woman, child and dog wanting Harvey to 'play the kids!' will make him scapegoat numero uno. It was already happening early in '09, but for some reason everyone seems to have forgotten.

Mundy, Schammer, Grover and Dood will also continue on with their fine 2009 scapegoatage work.

B: Broughton Tarrant Grover

HB: Duffield MiJohnson Suban

C: Hill Ibbotson Mundy Morabito

HF: McPhee Pavlich Mayne

F: Ballantyne McPharlin Hayden

R: Sandilands Palmer Crowley

I: Hasleby, Bradley, Solomon, Schammer

Using 211's shadow to slip Ibbo in will only work during day games and when we're wearing our dark home strip.

It does explain the moniker though! :p

i woul think that morabito will play almost every game next year. physically he is more equiped than both suban and hill, and he would fill a need as well. unless he gets injured or doesnt train hard enough, i woul think that harves would be more than keen to give him a regular game

B: Roger Hayden, Chris Tarrant, Greg Broughton
HB: Paul Duffield, McPharlin/Grover, Nic Suban
C: Anthony Morabito, Paul Hasleby, Stephen Hill
HF: Des Headland, Matthew Pavlich, Pearce/Walters
F: Chris Mayne, Johnson/Sibo, Hayden Ballantyne
Ruck: Aaron Sandilands, Rhys Palmer, Ryan Crowley
INT: David Mundy, Bradley/Clarke, Adam McPhee, Matt DeBoer
Emg: Ibbo, Schammer, Soloman, KPP

  • I reckon we should put Ibbo in the WAFL for a couple of weeks to possibly pressure some consistency in to him.
  • Hill, Mora, Duffield, Suban, Mundy can all play both HBF and midfield. Hopefully them 5 players can rotate between them positions
  • Pearce and Hill could also rotate between HBF and HFF. Or walters could rotate with Hill between HFF and midfield.
  • Hopefully Sibo, Bucovaz, Sheaphard, Murphy, or Houghton can also cement a Key position spot

In Morabito out Bradley. Johnson can do back up ruck work as good if not better then Bradley. Also Debour for Solomon dont get me wrong i like solly but i think we need to go with youth here.

i reckon your dreaming if you think ibbo wont be playing round 1. he is still young, inconsistency will always be a factor with youngsters. expect a break out year from garrick. starting round 1

I hope so. He is the most inconsistent in the team though and he's not that young anymore. 22 this year. I reckon it's make or break this year

This.
Guys under pressure: Johnson, Bradley, Schammer and Crowley
Next in line/Backups: Pearce, Walters, Solomon, Grover, Dodd

Mora in the starting side.

Grover will struggle to get a game IMHO and McPharlin should be moved back.

McPhee...Play him forward preseason, see how it goes.

I think Schammer is in our starting side as well, I'm all for the further development of DeBoer, but I think Schammer had the better season.

Interesting point Freo Blood. Would it be a stretch to say we are starting to gain a measure of depth again in our team ? It kinda looks that way....

That Houghton at 194cm 82kg & Roberton at 191cm 80kg could be considered along with Mora... They certainly have the size..

If he has a solid pre-season, he will probably be starting at FF. He'll beat the pants off Murphy but that isn't hard.

Harvey comes across as a pretty old school, loyal guy who will back players like Grover (who have runs on the board) to hold their spot. I think he would give him a crack before some of the new players. I really really really hope the Solomon isn't given a walk up start though. I admire the effort he has given to us since crossing over but his skills were deplorable last year and really undermine the style of footy that has to be played to win games of AFL these days.

Soloman will play, looks great on the track and the young boys stand taller when he is in the side. Johnson under pressure ,no way, will play CHF ,FF rotating with Pav. Mundy will start in the centre ,his clearance ability is best in the side. Walters will be in starting lineup.

Walters will not be in the side unless he improves his core strength, puts some bulk on and gets more power.
