St Kilda is the first team to score the same number of points in consecutive Grand Finals.

Plus Collingwood's score is something that has only been done once before.

Collingwood's total attendance this year is 1,568,263 so far. Very impressive!

Add another 100,000 and Collingwod's tally of ~1.66 million for season 2010 is unlikely to be broken for a long time, if ever.

Speaking of attendance figures, how will this year's total attendance for all games compare with other years?

EDIT: never mind, I see that with next week's game, season 2010 will be the most watched season in history

Regarding drawn finals, did you know:
  1. In the VFL Reserve Grade, there was not one drawn Grand Final in its entire existence from 1919 to 1999
  2. The 1958 Grand Final was the last senior VFA final ever drawn, but at least three lower grade VFA finals were drawn between 1959 and 1995
  3. Whoever wins the Replay will be the first premiers since Carlton in 1972 to have two draws, and only the fourth ever
  4. In neither the SANFL or WAFL was a senior Second Semi-Final ever drawn, though in the VFL six Second Semis were drawn in all Grades
  5. In neither the SANFL nor WAFL was a senior Preliminary Final ever drawn

1. Lenny Hayes is the only player to win a Morrish medal and Norm Smith medal.
2. Michael Malthouse has now coached a Qualifying Final (1990), a Semi Final (2007) and a Grand Final (2010) where the full-time scores were level.
3. Yesterday's attendance of 100,016 was the highest ever for an AFL Grand Final.
4. A crowd of 98,367 next week will be the biggest VFL/AFL crowd for a Grand Final Replay.
5. In the drawn grand finals of 1948 and 1977, the teams that led at 3/4 time both lost the Grand Final Replay. (Will St Kilda continue their momentum next week?)

BONUS. We all know that Coventry and Ablett hold the record for most goals in a Grand Final, that is. 9. If you counted a Grand Final and Grand Final Replay as a single game (humour me for a second), Jack Mueller (MEL 1948) kicked 12 (6 & 6), Peter Moore (COL 1977) kicked 9 (4 & 5) and Phil Baker (NTH 1977) also kicked 9 (6 & 3).

Dane Swan needs 6 disposals next week to become the first player to reach 800 disposals in a VFL/AFL season.

Surprised he didn't get it yesterday, but he put in his equal worst performance (stats-wise) for the season (21).

And his 2009 PF (17) was his lowest disposal count for 2009.

- Leigh Brown has played in 15 consecutive matches without a loss - the longest current streak of any player

- Koschitzke and Schneider registered their 200th career goals yesterday - the 7th and 8th players to do so in a Grand Final

- in the absence of Gardiner, Lenny Hayes at 30y261d will be the "youngest, oldest" player in a Grand Final since 1963 (Polly Farmer, 28y209d)

- with Malthouse coaching his 638th career match and Lyon his 97th, the difference in experience of 541 games was/is the greatest for opposing coaches in a Grand Final. In the 1977 draw, both Barassi and Hafey were coaching game #272

- next week's replay will be Collingwood's 500th match at the MCG

1. In 1981, Fitzroy kicked losing scores of 126, 132 and 133.
2. In 1980, Fitzroy scored 100 points or more 18 times yet only won 4 of those games.
3. Round 15, 1983 was the last time Fitzroy were on top of the ladder.
4. Round 19, 1989 was the last time Fitzroy were in a finals position (top 5) in the second half of the season.
4. Round 6, 1994 was the last time Fitzroy were in a finals position (top 8) at any time of the season.

Still on my WAFL history kick - so let's focus on the Claremont sides coached by Graham Moss.

1) Moss' Claremont side of 1981 played 23 games during the season. 21 Home and Away games and two finals.

In the Home & Away season they kicked 3352 points
In their two finals they kicked 219

Total for the season (in 23 games) = 3571 points (155.2 per game).

2) In fact, over Moss' ten years in charge of the Tigers, his sides averaged 122.9 points per game.

3) In a three-year stretch (1981-82-83), his sides kicked 3352, 2901, 2985 points, averaging 146.6 over that time for one premiership and two runners-up crowns.

4) His highest score as coach was 39.20 (254), kicked against Perth in 1981. Leading goalkickers on the day were Warren Ralph with 9.5, Steve Malaxos with 7.3, Jim Krakouer with 7.0 and Phil Krakouer with 5.0

5) Speaking of Warren Ralph - he gets a bad rap in Victorian parts for his less-than-stellar Carlton career, but for Claremont he was one of the most dangerous Full-Forwards in modern history. His pre-Carlton tallies;

1982 - 115
1983 - 128

6) Ralph's best tally? 16 goals versus Subiaco in 1983. Claremont won that day 37.19 (241) to 11.9 (75)

You had two teams kicking over 3000 points for the year, and South Fremantle were only 58 points away from doing so in the Home & Away round (they would get there in the finals).

Even Perth, who won the wooden spoon, averaged 102.4 points per game (but gave up 157.6 per game). In an indication of how much the game has changed since these days, only two WAFL teams from 1996-2004 scored more than Perth's 2151 points.

To find a game where the winning team kicked under 100 points, you had to wait until Round 9 for this to happen. In fact, only six games in the whole season (including finals) had a winning score under 100. That's 6 games out of 88.

Highest score of the season was South Fremantle's 40.18 (258), kicked against West Perth with former Richmond rover Noel Carter bagging 11 goals;

I'd have loved to have seen some of these games.

Well, the average winning margin throughout the year was about 54 points per game, so there's not too many massive match scores with small victories. But here's the closest (I've kept the margin to under 30 points and total match scores to over 250);

The lowest winning total in the entire 1982 WAFL Season?

East Perth's 13.14 (92) vs Subiaco 11.13 (79) in Round 14.

The highest losing total?

West Perth's 24.7 (151) vs East Perth 26.15 (171) in Round 4.

(We also had losing scores of 148, 143, 142, 136, 135, and 134)
