Essendon looks like scoring 100 for the first time this year. 8.9-57 at the main break including three posters and other gettable misses.

3 of the top 10 picks from 2008 finished 2016 on 119 games.

Draft pick in parentheses.

Michael Hurley (5.)
Chris Yarran (6.)
Tyrone Vickery (8.)

Hurley and Yarran with no games for 2016.

Most Career Goals: Lance Franklin (780) moves to #12 all-time passing Kevin Bartlett (778).

Will go to #10 in 2017 passing Matthew Richardson (800) and Bernie Quinlan (817).

Lance started the day on 193 goals for Sydney, now has 200 even.

74 goals is his best H&A return for the Swans, and 2nd best ever (101 H&A goals in 2008).

Any chance Buddy can go batshit crazy and kick 21 goals this finals series?

I want it to happen.

Swans 4th best ever end of season percentage (151.19%). Top 3 however were in 1909, 1912 and 1919.

Only 2nd ever 17-5 season (also 2014).

I always thought that Doug Hawkins had played the most games having changed clubs. He wasn't.

Doug Hawkins - 329 games then 21 with Fitzroy (1995)
John Rantall - 330 games then 6 with Fitzroy (1980)

Brent Harvey might smash this record with probably 432 games.

Let's assume Boomer finishes on 432 games for North. If he plays on in 2017:

- would be only player in top 8 of Most Career Games to play for 2 clubs
- would break John Rantall's record for latest career change (330 games) [Dough Hawkins 329 games]
- would play with his ~200th teammate
- needs <10 goals to break into top 50 all time for most goals
- needs ~30 goals to reach 550 career goals, pass Daicos, Tredrea, Gehrig, Coleman, BT, Bradshaw, Mickey O
- finish with 3rd most AFL wins: Tuck (302), Bartlett (260), Doull (238), Boomer (235)
- finish with 2nd/3rd/4th most AFL losses: Kevin Murray (208), Hawkins (200), Rantall (199), Roos (196), Boomer (194)
- finish as 6th oldest player ever
- finish with 3rd longest career: Fletcher (22y 58d), Vic Cumberland (21y 360d), Boomer (~21y 7 days)
- could play his 13th finals series, only 4 players have played 14 or 15

- 7 games: would pass Barry Round's record for most games in major Victorian leagues (438 games: 328 in VFL, 110 in VFA)
- 12 games: would pass Craig Bradley's record 195 games in his 30s ie. as a "thirtysomething"
- 15 games: would play his 500th senior game*
- 16 games: would play his 200th game in his 30s
- 17 games: would pass Peter Carey's national record for most games in the one major league (448 SANFL games)
- 18 games: would play his 450th AFL game (he doesn't lose milestone games)
- 22 games: would pass Bartlett and Tuck (13 each) for most 22-game seasons played (14)
- 23 games: would join Michael Tuck for most 23-game seasons played (10)
- 23 games: would fall 18 games short of Craig Bradley's 473 games of AFL/SANFL (375 AFL, 98 SANFL)
- 23 games: would fall 20 games short of Craig Bradley's 528 senior games**

* - 447 AFL/VFL, 41 Night Series, 2 State of Origin, 10 Internationals
** - 375 AFL/VFL, 98 SANFL, 27 Night Series, 15 State of Origin, 9 Internationals, 4 State League

Most games played in first 10 seasons:

230 - Adam Goodes
226* - Joel Selwood (to add, 2 to 4 finals)
226 - Craig Bradley
222 - Andrew Mackay, Jim Stynes
219 - John Platten, David King, Jarrad McVeigh
217 - Chris Langford
215 - Andrew McLeod
216 - Wayne Richardson, Nick Dal Santo
214 - Shannon Grant, Scott Pendlebury
213 - Matthew Pavlich
202* - Harry Taylor (to add, 2 to 4 finals, plus 2017 games)
200* - Shane Woewodin (only played 9 seasons)
172* - Liam Picken (to add, 2 to 4 finals, plus 2017 and 2018 games)
172* - Stephen Hill (to add, 2017 and 2018 games)

Random others:
211 - Brad Johnson, Jude Bolton / 205 - Russell Greene, Jimmy Bartel / 202 - Kevin Bartlett / 200 - Michael Tuck
199 - Corey Enright / 197 - Leigh Matthews, Simon Madden, Shaun Burgoyne / 194 - Tim Watson / 190 - Dustin Fletcher

Teams that finished in identical position in 2015 and 2016:

Hawthorn (3rd), North Melbourne (8th), Collingwood (12th), Brisbane Lions (17th)

After 11 games, North Melbourne (1st) were 6 games and 48% clear of St Kilda (13th).

After 22 games, North Melbourne edged out St Kilda for 8th spot by <10%.

A -61 aggregate against Swans and Richmond was not quite what St Kilda needed. That said, they were a long shot to sneak in anyway.

Rantall's 330 games were actually a combination of games played at South Melbourne and North Melbourne before he went to Fitzroy. So it looks as though Hawkins should hold the record.

For one club, yes, unless Boomer goes to a new club. I was more concerned who had played the most games before swapping clubs, regardless if it was 1 club (Hawkins) or more (Rantall).

Last two years that no QF or EF was played on Sunday:

2016, 1983

Discounting the Fitzroy players of 1916, when the Lions finished as both premiers and wooden-spooners in a war affected competition, just two men have the unusual distinction of playing for both the premiers and last placed team in the same season; George Collard and Ken Newton.

In 1938, Collard started the season with Carlton, playing one game for the Blues before transferring to South Melbourne, where he played seven games for the Swans. Carlton defeated Collingwood to take out the 1938 premiership, while South Melbourne finished last, an amazing and fast fall for the Swans which had been a very good team and made the Grand Final in 1936.

In 1950, Ken Newton commenced the season with three victories with Essendon, but left the Bombers after this and transferred to Hawthorn, where he played eight games for the Hawks for the remainder of the 1950 season. While Essendon and Hawthorn might have dominated the competition in the mid 1980s, in 1950 the teams could not have been more different. Essendon completely dominated the 1950 season, losing just once and cruising to an easy premiership win in the Grand Final. Last placed Hawthorn had one of the worst seasons ever, failing to win a game and copping some absolute canings.

Provided he doesn't kick a goal this weekend, North Melbourne defender Michael Firrito will finish his career by equalling club legend David Dench on 275 games and 29 goals.

Most finals wins:
26 - Tuck
21 - Pike
20 - Bartlett, Burgoyne*
19 - Matthews, Mew
18 - Ayres, Brereton, Akermanis

By Kicking 2 goals last night Josh Kennedy has increased his record yearly goals total a massive 10 times!

2006: 5
2007: 6
2008: 7
2009: 31
2010: 41
2011: 59
2013: 60
2014: 61
2015: 80
2016: 82

2012: (18) The one only year he hasn't increased his yearly goals total, when he was injured and played a handful of games.

I would be surprised if there are many instances of a player increasing their best year in a statistical category 10 times.
