My patience has kinda run out for him.

I know he's a gut runner and I"m aware of how well he reads the play, but is there a point to it when he completely undoes all that with his dinky kick turnovers? Which seem to be happening with more and more frequency?

Also, he's been in the system for what, 7 years now? Why is he still so easy to outbody by just about anyone? His tackles seem easy to break too.

My issue is, his output and skill level for ME, don't match his reputation.

Dunno Gold Coast have a pretty big office up there.

Why not BrisVegas??

Straight swap Schache.......ok we can throw in Thomas & Keeffe!

I'm a vocal critic of Sidey, not because I have any hatred of him - never met him, but probably because in my opinion he is generally overrated by commentators and fans (not his fault).

He kicking is generally average - lots of dinky kicks and scrubbers
Yes he runs all day, but usually nowhere near a man - not much accountability - maybe that's the coaches directive?

I've watched him closely a hell of a lot, especially live at the games. His man hurts him too much the other way and he doesn't run the other way as much as people think.

I think he is a bit of a victim of other peoples high ratings/expectations.

Not even close to elite. Yes he has some good games and plenty of bad ones, which is pretty much reflective of where I see him - a bang on average footballer.

Steele is a gun and would be in most teams starting 18. Consistent top 10 finishes in the Copeland (3rd in 2016) reflects well on him.

Consistent gut runner and link man. His not as damaging by foot or hand as you would like him to be but an absolute gun. Not quite at the elite level but not far off it.

Trade Bait. Is a great player but his stats hide his actual output on a game. He had an opportunity to elevate his game to another level when we lost Beams, and then again with Swan as he saw an elevated role in the middle, instead he has been passed by much younger players like Treloar and Adams.

Most games where we perform well he is almost our 5th best mid. Pendles, Adams, Treloar and usually some other wildcard player on the day (whether it be Wells, Varcoe, Greenwood or even a player like Crisp) outperform him and have a greater impact on the game. He gets alot of it but doesn't do much with it, and for me his main issue is going to be when players like De Goo and Aish mature he could easily end up being a 6th-string mid.

Is he a great clubman, Yes. Was he a Steele (yeah) in the draft, Yes. If we can ship him off to North (who always seem to be linked with him) or elsewhere where he can either help us bring in tall support for Darcy up forward (P.Wright, B.Brown, a spare GWS Tall etc..) then for mine we should do it.

Hatred in the gameday thread? I must admit when in attendance I rarely post in them so I completely missed that and my first reaction would be that those comments say more about the poster than Steele. He wasn't one of our best on Sunday, but nor was he worthy of criticism, IMO.

Overall he's a good footballer with the potential to be great and I'm keen to see how he goes once Oxley is punted.
The Oxley conspiracy... Again, I'm intrigued...

Before the ANZAC Day game Sidey was 2nd in the league to only Bontempelli for the least amount of clangers per possessions.

Interesting stat in view of some of the comments above...the way I see it is the guy is trying to be creative and get the ball to a teammate in a better position...sometimes it's gonna come unstuck. But from what you say not as often as others would think...

The good outweighs the bad with Sidey. If you expect elite outputs each week, you'll be disappointed, if you expect a very high performer on average throughout the season you will get it.

I would also wait until we play finals again to pass judgement, he is a big game player and he hasn't been able to show it in the past three seasons.

Sidebottom is a premiership player. Look at what happened to us when Harry O, Beams, Shaw, Wellingham and Dawes left us. We need to hold onto that experience for the sake of our youngsters and rookies coming through the ranks.

Very good player, not a great one. B+

I think his best role would be as a small forward and he could be an elite player in that role with his great natural forward instincts. As a mid he's nowhere near elite, but very important to us all the same.

Before the ANZAC Day game Sidey was 2nd in the league to only Bontempelli for the least amount of clangers per possessions.

That's because he rarely kicks long, he blatantly butchered 2 easy i50 kicks last week which cost us 2 shots on goal, as I said earlier he goes through phases with his disposal, some good some bad, but he is in no shape or form an elite kick of the football, nor is he an elite player, solid B grader for mine.

I'm a fan. Will always remember his performance as a 19 year old (!) in our 2010 flag. While he subsequently hasn't quite hit the anticipated heights, he is still a very good footballer and club man.

Is it true that he memorises/remembers the brand and style of boots worn by players across the AFL? A bit quirky, but why not.

And who could forget him winning international Name of the Year in 2010:

The most overrated player in modern Collingwood history.

His defensive efforts are child-like, his kicking is crap, has no idea how to weight his kicks.. half the time they land a metre short... he doesn't get ANY hard ball... just a weak outside mid with no hurt factor and no defensive efforts.

Pack him up at the end of the year and pray someone is stupid enough to give us a late 1st round pick for him.
