Not to say I'm upset or surprised but still no real recognition for the team or individual players from the wider footy community. The prevailing opinion on the team seems to be a great team of workmanlike, if talented players with a sprinkling of 2 or 3 top raters made to look good by a temporary advantage in game plan.

Everyone talks of Daisy making his name and I couldn't agree more, but the efforts of Pendlebury, Wellingham, Didak, Heater and co have largely been essentially glossed over.

Not that I mind if this continues to reflect opposition coaches attitudes as that would give us advantage but I can't see the witless mumblings of many scribes and opposition supporters finding any credibility in opposition coaching boxes.

We wouldn't get any credit if we had of gone 25-0 throughout the season, let alone winning it the way we did after the starting the season slowly.

But no matter what "they" say, you know they are just jealous, you know they are just so annoyed that we won a flag, that "they" can't see things clearly.

We as pie fans know the truth, and we know exactly how good this team is, and exactly how good some of the individuals within that team are.

But I say, "great", keep underestimating us, keep saying we are a bunch of "battlers" who won it all, because next year, perfection may be incoming, I feel we will be better in 2011 then we were in 2010, and if the rest of the football community wants to expect the same "workmanlike" team next year, WATCH OUT, The Machine (Version 2) is just warming up.:D

Yes that's right who needs more recognition, when we won the flag.

2010 PREMIERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a little tip we will go close to going Back to back to back.

If that happens we must be recognised as the powerhouse sides OF THE MODERN ERA we are striving to be,and will be.
Better than geelong and those cheats Brisbane.

This current group can and will win a few more flags !

for mine, i have been someone who recognised when we didnt have the playing list, and until the week of GF2, i didnt think weve been good enough to WIN a flag, since the confidence i had after the 2nd semi of 1990. (if that makes sense) i did think we were good things for 2011, and even more so now seeing weve gone thru it already.

i call it being a realist. some call it not being true. whatever.

theres nothing on the horizon from opposition clubs to suggest we cant win in 2011, and probably 2012 too. beyond that it will be damn hard.

I certainly see what you're getting at.

Examples:

James Frawley is rated at the 2nd coming of Glen Jakovich, when I would argue Ben Reid had just as good a year.

Dale Thomas supposedly arrived in 2 excellent GF's, when in reality he had played elite football all year and has been outstanding since the 2006 finals.

Heath Shaw is so underrated its not funny. IMO, he is a superior player to both Maxwell and O'Brien yet oppositions fans and the media don't even mention him in the same breath.

Scott Pendlebury is one of the best 22 year old midfielders in a decade, yet people are still wondering if he;s better than Marc Murphy? Give me a break!

Luke Ball dominated our tackling and inside clearance work, yet is still considered an underachieving talent?

In 2007, Geelong went 18-4 and had 9 AA's. If we go back to back next year and finish as good as 18-4 or better, I guarantee we won't get anymore than 5 AA's.

Don't get me wrong I'm more than happy for this delusion to continue but I don't think it penetratrates opposition coaching boxes. Maxwell is a prime example of undervaluing by opposition supporters. They keep whingeing about him getting 'easy' possesions - how about thier coaches coming up with a game plan to negate him? Easier said than done Maxy is a superior reader of the game, he needs not only a close marking player but one with a good footy brain on him. That's a top defensive forward tied up on a non key position player. Coaches wouldn't like that! Toovey is another that is vastly underrated, admitted he still has a way to go but his work through the finals was pleasing to say the least. The list goes on, what about Caff? How far and fast has he come this season?? The future is bright.

I can slightly understand why we're underrated, perhaps more than most teams , who win a flag, we have a more even list, less superstars...

But as others have implied...who cares?

I for one don't.

We won the ****ing flag, for starters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And if people underrate us, good for them, suits us.

Don't want any extra incentive for anyone to get ahead of themselves, not when there's a job to to, and that is go back to back.

Plus I guess 'superstars' want extra $$$, so again, yep we're an average team with average players...keep that school of thought going long as we can.....!!

They underrated us this year...let them keep doing it. I'll gladly take being "underrated" if we win 2 or 3 more cups along the way :D

the pies will be unstoppable after r12 or so next year. a hawthorn like circa 1983/91 aura will surround this club, almost everything that they touch will turn to gold. who cares about recognition, the kangas of the 90's didnt give a rats about shit, and they in my opinion were far greater than the lions and the cats more recently. the pies have just scracthed the surface watch them fly by no 16, no 17 maybe even no 18. i could be believing my own bullshit i bit to much, but **** i love this club, the footy gods have had their way for far too long, time for a real dynasty. go the mighty pies.

Exactly what I was thinking. It's kind of handy, and it also keeps the players in check if people are telling them they're not the best.

mate their not stupid they know that they were the best this year. ego, imagination, strength, money have propelled the club to a premiership. the media and the average knob on the street has got buckley's in telling didak swan thomas jolly and the rest, that they are just average footballers.

No I'm not saying that. I'm talking about individual hype and players living into it. It's not good to see. If a player can handle it, it's fine, but quite often they don't and it can put them off track for a year or more. This way they don't have to put up with it and can treat 2011 like they did 2010 which is a positive. I highly doubt they'd care less about what people on the street said, but if everyone including the media were hyping them up chances are they'd start to believe it.

We're all in it to see our own side win a flag; who gives a stuff about the rest honestly, no matter who you are.

**** the recognition.

If we manage to win more flag(s) over the next few years, then it will be all the sweeter that everyone else under-rates us.

As others have said, we're the 2010 Premiers, who gives a flying f**k how others view us?
