News Suns to ask for Pick 1 as a priority pick

So many Vic posters banging on about what “leaders” Gold Coast need, without a fricken clue as to what Gold Coast has done to fix their team on and off field in the last 18 months.

“They need to get leaders, they need to get leaders. Look what Brisbane did when they got Hodge.”

Mate, if anyone can identify this years Luke Hodge, who is willing to move up to the Coast, can you please call Gold Coast’s head of football and let him know.

as I’ve stated Melbourne’s leadership has been terrible this year. There will be a leadership overhaul at Melbourne this year.


And the Suns have Swallow, Martin, Day, Miller, Weller, King, Ainsworth, Hanley, Wright, Sexton, Brodie, Lukosius. Plenty of talent already on their list.

The Suns, might have an AFL level starting 22, some of it young, but they have next to no depth to cover for injuries.

They still need to add significant talent to their list.


Brisbane has spent 3 trade and draft periods building our depth, but most of it hasn’t been tested due to this year having next to no injuries.

The best way to help a club is by teaching it to stand upon it's on 2 feet....That's how you develop culture & character....Hand-outs won't achieve that.

Just look at all the early draft concessions Melbourne has burnt for example....Fix your culture.

It was widely available charity to everyone, but the idea was still the same, you were still rewarded for sub performance.

FWIW I am not in fan of a priority pick at all and would rather we just got extra soft cap spend to sort out our injury department or something not draft related.

Yeah that move really paid off for the Demons. The last thing Gold Coast needs is someone like Jordan Lewis up there, stinking up the joint..

This is why I am hesitant that an mature age over the hill player will help the Suns. Someone like Luke Hodge at Brisbane is an exception to the rule

Selwood simply doesn't possess Hodge's leadership credentials....Hodge is a once in a generation player when it comes to game smarts & on-field coaching.

No argument from me P35, our boy Luke and our triple premiership captain Michael Voss are on another level to other mere mortals when it comes to leadership.

Joel Selwood would be the best of the potentially available poor imitations IMO.

Only one finals after the inception of GCS and GWS, Melbourne fan can hardly said they lead by example, offer free ticket to Richmond games also.

My post wasn't about Melbourne, it was just using Lewis as an example that we all really have no idea of what players will become available at the end of the season. I picked Lewis because he was the first one i remembered. The counter argument to what was discussed in this thread

Still we don't have enough sample that Melbourne culture had change for good by Lewis and Nathan Jones because the different from last year and this year performance are for everyone to see.

No I didn't. What I said was that before Lewis came to Melbourne no one predicted that it would happen. The point I was making is that we (the fans) really have no idea of which players will be available at trade time. I used Lewis purely as an example of this.
