Jay Clark was hated at one of his first journo jobs for talking shit about every team except Collingwood and especially hated the Swans. A lot of player agents apparently also hate him and refuse to give him info
Makes Tom Brown look like a legit journalist

"Former Sydney coach John Longmire never handed back his audio data from last year’s grand final, which was needed to produce the annual Sound The Alarm documentary on the AFL website."

I wonder how bad it was.

Made me feel a little sad for John that he felt like he couldn't hand it back

was probably the best call he made all day

Obviously it was not going to look good should he wish to find employment as coach of another team.
Smart move Horse. Keep them fooled.

It probably wasn't going to sound good if he wanted to have any kind of ongoing relationship with the players.

Basically the Rodney Eade audio, but swap Minson with Amartey and Florent. And about 15 others.

I can't believe they made a 20 minute video of Errol's injury recovery :tearsofjoy:

Makes sense actually.

They are building him up to the next face of the Swans, good looking kid, NSW born and bred, likely our next captain.

Mark the story about it

I just watched it. Talk about paint and dry. But at leastr we got an idea of his mindset. He actually got out and studied for hgis pilot's license. That i think is thinking ahead. good on him. but as for the physical side, watching paint dry is more interesting. The mindset is interesting though.

I hope the people objecting to the Gulden video on social media aren't the same who were complaining not so long ago about the useless Swans media department that never did anything. The only measure of its success is whether it attracts people's interest, both fans and non-fans.
As one of those people you're referring to, I'll bite.

My issue with our media team is that the content has been lacking for every player outside of the same 4-5 players. So this is just more of the same. Errol Gulden gets a 20-minute doco about his recovery & rehab, whilst Harry Cunningham who only missed one less game than Gulden this year gets "plus the return of Harry Cunningham for the first time this season" tacked on the end of the caption of a team selection post.

I will say that the content has been better this year in terms of giving access to our players each week rather than sequestering them, but I also feel like our media department might as well change their names from sydneyswans on social media to just isaacheeneyerrolguldenchadwarnerbrodiegrundy, because it seems to be all they care about.

I screenshotted the Swans TikTok account a few weeks back and literally half of the posts were about Heeney.

Sorry but that is just an absolute joke and anyone who claims to be a Swans supporter shouldn't be OK with it. We are the Sydney Swans. Not the Five Sydney Swans. We have the rest of footy media to focus on the same 4-5 players. They absorb 99% of the non-Swans media's attention, the least our own media team could do is focus on the rest of the squad.

That's who this content is for. No one outside of diehard Swans and journos who have to cover the game (and who will already focus on Gulden anyway) will sit and watch 22 minues of Gulden doing rehab & recovery. It won't move the needle one bit in attracting any newcomers to the fanbase. All it does is insult the intelligence of actual Swans supporters by assuming we'll only care about content this extensive if it's of someone like Gulden.

Lastly, on the doco specifically, it's comical to think it a worthy subject. Gulden hurt his ankle and is back playing with ten games still to go. He didn't die and come back to life. It's absurd. I wonder how Cunningham feels that apparently his journey back, of a very similar length, wasn't worth documenting. I wonder how McDonald - facing the prospect of his entire season being a write-off - feels. I wonder how players who have done ACLs or multiple ACLs feel seeing such a fuss made of Gulden's 15-week injury. No one has the monopoly on struggles in footy, but read the room a bit. It's so disproportionate.

Sorry for the rant. Not having a go at you at all, but I am extremely passionate about this subject. It really pisses me off actually.

I haven’t watched the Errol video. Can’t be bothered.

But ….. the fact is, “celebrities” equal money.

We Bigfooty crew are mostly die-hards, who want to know about the more obscure players. Most supporters, however, are drawn to the high profile types. The celebrity players. They will be far less interested in Harry Cunningham and hence also far less likely to click the link.

Heeney and Errol are our most marketable commodities & hence will attract a disproportionate degree of coverage.

It all comes down to money.

I would argue that only Bigfooty-type die-hards are watching that video of Gulden.

But also, what comes first - a player being high-profile or our media team propping the player up? How's anyone else supposed to become high-profile if they're never profiled?

And lastly, to be frank, I couldn't give a shit about money. If they want to make money with Gulden and Heeney on social media left, right and centre, then have at it. But at least compensate for it by going above & beyond to profile the others, too. Sir Dane is 35, Lloyd & Cunningham 31. We don't have a lot of time left with these guys who have been long and awesome servants of the club. I ****ing hate that I've probably heard more out of Gulden's mouth this year alone - where he's only played one game! - than we have from those three veterans across their whole careers. And every Swans fan should hate it too.

I thought the plot of the video was thin, they emphasised the badge number so much you just knew it was coming back. Then when it turned out Simon was Hans brother it all made sense I guess, enjoyed it.

Good to have Errol back

Chad always gives more insight than than most, thanks for sharing.

I’m curious about the improvement in off field standards he referred to. Did he mean training standards or more how people turn up around the club?
I was wondering the same thing about what he meant by off field standards. It's disappointing either way.

I don’t profess to like it.

But I maintain - the Swans are a business & these matters are driven by one consideration: marketing dollars.

If there was money in making videos about Lloyd, Sir Dane & Harry, it’d happen.

I do, however think there’ll be a lot of fanfare when Sir Dane retires. Credit where credit is due - the club has done it pretty well for other legends of the club.

They can shove their eleventh hour fan service.

My last comment on this subject as I REALLY do not like it, as you can probably tell. Sorry DQ.
