"A “moderate” pandemic like the 1957 Asian flu could kill 14.2 million people and shave 2 percent from the global economy in the first year, the World Bank said in October."

Why is the World Bank giving health warnings?

Glaxo and Roche, with that stockpile of Tamiflu.

Aint cured anything else except insider shareholders misery.

How many died combined, confirmed figures of SARS, Avian and the new one?

Less than one hundred.

Try nearly 800 confirmed from SARS alone, expert.

Whassup Ol Fella, thought I'd drop in to see how your little 'Piggy Flu' thread was going.......Hmmm....not so good.....let's see, what are the symptoms:

Weak supposition....check
Strained and faltering defence.......check
Strong Anti-DR response......check

Yep I reckon it's plain to see that it has the dreaded 'BF1DR2' bug!:D

I tried to warn ya:D

Watch this video clip...or die! Swine Flu can make you very sick.

Scandal! The governments of the world have known about this since 1976....and done nothing:eek:

Indeed.

Information on the 1976 outbreak: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/EID/vol12no01/05-0965.htm

So it seems the idea is being bandied about that the origins of the recent outbreak may be as a result of "human error". http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=afrdATVXPEAk&refer=worldwide

The claims seem to be fairly unsubstantiated as of yet, but it would be very profitable human error.;)

Unrelated but it amakes me think of this:

Ahhh the pharmaceuticals industry, a bastion of good ethics and incorruptibility.

Dry Rot you really seem to be cheering this on, the world just dosn't seem to be depopulating itself quick enough for you, you misery merchant.

Not cheering it on, just very interested in it.

Been really interested in flu pandemics since doing some work with some risk management guys a few years ago on bird flu. Learnt heaps at the time, but haven't worked on it since. Before this, heard stories handed down through my family about relatives caught up in the Spanish Flu (grandmother almost died). Have also heard some excellent ABC oral history docos about the Spanish Flu.

Every expert I have read says that flu pandemics are inevitable and we overdue one. Dunno if this swine flu will be the big one but there are some very scary signs. We won't know till the end of the next northern winter.

I know. We are still on alert at work. I hope it stays overdue, and we never have another one, but thats not how it works worseluck.

In the dead of night, it will be alright.

Don't panic.

Dry Cough would love a fully blown pandemic :p

He'd be locked up in his house, waiting for the inevitable massive human cull, eating curries and just loving it.

The only downside I can see is he couldn't keep his window open in mid-winter for fear of getting the flu himself!!

Bollocks.
Pandemic!!!!!!! which isn't really close to anything, really, is it!!!

The flu in Honkers, and the birds, and the pigs now, come on!!!!!!!

Roche and the Glaxo have sold the white pills,
and their shares have gone through the roof

WOOHOO, we aren't all dead. :D

Told you panic merchants it was an overhyped media blow up.

Swine flu says hello to Australia and particularly Victoria.

Hope it doesn't mutate this winter, or you have kids.

On US figures, we probably have 20 times the number of confirmed cases here.

Enjoy - apparently it doesn't matter.

OH wow, 12 people in Australia have had the flu, let's all panic.

OH wait, thousands of Aussies get the flu every year & some die because they are old or young & don't have the strength to fight it off, strange no one has died of this horrible Swine flu yet.

I am getting so pissed off with the push to make people panic about it. Hell, more people have died on the roads since this scaremongering & who knows how many people have died from overdoses, or being drunk.

Perspective people.

Enligten me, how many people have died from this Flu worldwide?

Totally agree with you Mantis. I think there has only been 1 known case in California with one person confirmed dead from the swine flu. Exactly as you said, more people are dying from the common cold. Media are building this up to be a massive thing. But to be honest i've hardly researched the thing, but this is just what is seems like to me.

Well, there's 3 problems with your argument (and ignorance).

Nothing to be concerned about...

100 000(unconfirmed) out of 300 Million?

What percentage of the population is that, to be exact?

0.00033%.

So let me get this straight a few kids have come down with swine and are some of the first cases of the disease in this country but have never been in contact with anyone from where this killer flu has originated?? Hows that possible???

This flu has been manufactured and put into the community to make people ie the medical/pharmaceutical complex alot of money!!! I for one wont be accepting any vaccines that are going to come onto the market as testing will be at a minimum. Tamiflu and Ralenza stocks are going through the roof at the moment.

Lets get some perspective, this has killed 5 or 6 people outside of mexico out of some 8,000 cases.

How this has spread to more victims outside of its place of origin has also bewildered me, I mean that is a dead set give away that this is dodgey as.

Not too difficult to figure it out - google silent spread.

So agents of Roche and GSK are travelling around the world poisoning our water supplies with swine flu virus? Maybe you think it is connected with Roswell or the group of international jewish bankers and CIA guys that blew up the World Trade Centre towers?

FWIW at least 86 people have died, and over 100,00 have been infected in the USA.

Talk to someone with some knowledge and a brain. In the meantime, look at a few travel sites, look up silent spread and incubation periods and you might figure it out.
