Very interesting. After writing them off initially, seems he's changed his mind. Good thing for Australia, if he can do well in the 20/20s and ODIs, then he can bring form and confidence into a Test recall. Would be very handy to have in the side.

Tait eyes Tests after recall

A surprised Shaun Tait has looked to the future after being picked in Australia's limited-overs squads by saying a return to Test action is "not out of the question". Tait has been hit by hamstring injuries this season, forcing him out of one-day and four-day games, but he said he was in good shape for the Twenty20 matches in Melbourne on Sunday and Brisbane on Tuesday.

"My body's the main factor for me," Tait said in the Australian. "It feels pretty good at the moment. If I can maintain it and bowl well then [Test selection is] not out of the question."

Tait, who was picked in the Twenty20 and one-day squads, had tendonitis and a slight tear in his hamstring in December, but he came back to take three wickets against New South Wales on Tuesday. Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors, said Tait had gained a full medical clearance and felt it was better for him to be travelling with Australia than spending time on the domestic Twenty20 circuit.

It is the first time Tait has been picked in a senior Australian side since he walked away from the game due to physical and mental exhaustion 12 months ago. "I'm pretty chuffed at the moment," Tait said ... "[The selectors] have showed a fair bit of confidence in me, which is good, so it's up to me to repay them, if I get a run."

Hopefully he bowls at full pace.
If he isn;t bowling full pace then he isn't worth selecting

Full pace for Tait is over 155km/h, even if he is only bowling at 145km/h he would still be one of the fastest bowlers in the country. And he is one of the few bowlers in Australia who can swing the ball.

It's not all about pace with Tait. So selecting him based only on speed, is frankly stupid.

Tait needs pace to get his wickets
The only way he can force himself into the test team is if he is bowling around 150 most balls and getting wickets.

This year he has been bowling slower in shield (bout mid to low 140s) which is why his stats are so poor (about 3 wickets a match at 40)

I don't think you can judge Tait on his form in the Sheffield Shield so far this season. He hasn't really been fit, so his speed has been down. And wickets are a lot easier to get when there is pressure at both ends, and with the Redbacks bowling attack in Sheffield Shield this season it's no wonder he hasn't been getting a lot of wickets.

When Tait is at full fitness he will be able to bowl at over 150km/h consistently in the longer game, and until he does that he wont play Test cricket.

I agree with you about that, but I disagree that pace is the only way for him to get wickets. Tait is quite adept at bowling bouncers, slower balls and yorkers. And a lot of his wickets come from swinging the ball. Pace is of course a factor, but not the only one.

But pace is the factor that will get him infront of Siddle, Bollinger, Hilfenhaus and co

Oh, look at this. Back in the OD squad and all of a sudden Test's are an option for him again.......
You would be saying he is a gun and should automatically come into the side if he was from NSW, wouldn't you Spikey

trouble is he doesnt even know which ball he is going to bowl. has no control at all. total liability in a team where we need some constant bowling pressure.

only reason he gets wickets is because he doesnt know where the ball is going so the batsmen dont have a chance.

He was always going to play T20 and be in the ODI squad this summer... but to make the delusional leap that he's in contention for test selection is funny stuff.

Just recently he said publicly he was concentrating on the shorter forms of the game and "not concentrating" on Shield cricket at all.

Now after playing barely any Shield games this summer he says test selection is not out of the question. Is he on drugs or just plain stupid?

Message to Shaun: If you want to play test cricket again then play Shield games and take plenty of wickets at a good average. What you do with the white ball whilst blokes are trying to slog you is about as relevant to test selection as looks are for a male pr0n star.

reporter - do you still have aspirations to play test cricket?

tait - (as answered)/yes

you're actually making up things.

all he's saying/answering is that he still wants to play test cricket. nothing more.
if you'd heard more interviews with him (instead of the answer to one question you don't even know) then you wouldn't have the problem of making ridiculous assumptions.

he knows as well as anyone test selection is there to be earnt.

saying he wants to play test cricket again is kind of normal, I'd of thought. no?

either way - what you say is correct - shield cricket, bowl well, take wickets etc. (which he hasn't done this season as he's slowly returned to fitness)
message to you - he already knows that.

What a dumb post.

If they use Johnson as the all-rounder,then maybe Tait has a future in the test side. With that many bowlers he could be used in very short, sharp bursts.Anything is possible.

Spot on actually. Shaun is deluding himself if he thinks he's a test cricketer. Doesn't have the stamina, control, consistency, heart or mental strength to be effective at test level.

ODI and T20 suit his style of quick and unpredictable. Deep down he knows this too.

People were saying the exact same thing about Lee a few years ago.

He made DeVilliers and a few other guys look pretty uncomfortable tonight. If he could sustain that for even 5 overs he's be dynamite at test cricket.

He doesn't seem to be able to. In England tests in 2005 he just looked hittable.

Anyone got any thoughts on how he bowls with an older ball?
