Tait: Test return "not out of the question

Wow you guys have NFI. Tait's first game back, should have had 3 or more wickets if the umpire can do there job.

He is a master with an old ball, no one can reverse swing in Australia like him.

A fully fit and firing Tait is the number 1 bowler in this country on song.

Shaun Tait:
ODI Average 23.5
ODI Strike rate 25.7
First class Average 28.59
First class Strike rate 46.7

Brett Lee:

ODI Strike rate 29.2 (3.5 worse)
First class Average 28.4 (0.19 better)
First class Strike rate 49.9 (3.2 worse)

Nathan Bracken:
ODI Average 21.87 (1.63 better)
ODI Strike rate 30.2 (4.5 worse)
First class Average 25.98 (2.61 better)
First class Strike rate 62.9 (16.2 worse)

Mitchell Johnson:
ODI Average 23.46 (0.04 better)
ODI Strike rate 29.8 (4.1 worse)
First class Average 29.47 (0.88 worse)
First class Strike rate 55.55 (8.85 worse)

Glenn McGrath

ODI Strike rate 34.0 (8.3 worse)
First class Average 20.85 (7.74 better)
First class Strike rate 50.00 (3.3 worse)

Well he looked very ordinary, his pace was pedestrian after one over, in what is supposedly his speciality game, the one he wanted to focus on.
He's far from fully fit and is still recovering from hammy troubles.

Don't get me wrong, he's a long, long way from test cricket (if ever), but he offers so much in the short forms when fit and firing - like when he dominated the world cup.

That first over last night was amazing.

his 'pedestrain' pace was equivalent to the fastest spells we have seen from either side during the test team.

His first bowl was faster than any ball bowled during the test series

a self confessed drunk posting on the forums, you ain't worth the effort
Tait looked like rubbish last night, yet he was bowling so fast every T20 fan got a hard on. I don't want him anywhere near the Test side.

haha so because i had a few beers last night i am now a drunk?

i reckon most australians that are old enough to drink would argue with your logic on that one.

plus look back over any of the posts. fairly sure that even drunk my posts were more coherent and valid than any of your points.

when you are old enough to drink instead of having to steal them out of the fridge you might see differently.

Even though I am a South Aussie, I dont want Tait near the Test side for the forseeable future.

When he gets a bit fitter, does more than just bowl erratic and fast and has his heart in it then possibly.

He may get domestic wickets by bowling fast, but bowls too much crap to be a test match bowler. Although he is a terrific option in the 20/20 and OD formats of the game.

Would be good if he can add more strings to his bow and be the bowler that many people believe he can be.

Spot on actually. Shaun is deluding himself if he thinks he's a test cricketer. Doesn't have the stamina, control, consistency, heart or mental strength to be effective at test level.

ODI and T20 suit his style of quick and unpredictable. Deep down he knows this too.
haha, says the guy who made himself look like a .... after saying Tait would never succeed at one day level (before the world cup)

I don't your opinion on the guy has any merit.

trouble is he doesnt even know which ball he is going to bowl. has no control at all. total liability in a team where we need some constant bowling pressure.

only reason he gets wickets is because he doesnt know where the ball is going so the batsmen dont have a chance.

thats bullshit

whilst he isn't ever going to have the accurancy of Glenn Mcgrath He knows when he wants to bowl short, up or a good lenght its just of matter of where it pitches.

The reason he gets wickets is his ability to bowl 150kmph swinging yorkers as well as getting reverse swing.

I'm one person who has gone cold on Tait after all the bullshit he has put SA and Australia through, but he is still probably the 3rd best bowler in the country.

just a matter of where it pitches. call me crazy but i would think that the 3rd best bowler in the country should have some idea where it is going to pitch.

look at his wickets last night.

a hit wicket, and 2 absolute bunnies that were bolwed off their legs with balls that would have been wides had there been a batsmen at the crease.

So what does Johnson do then? Tubby think he has NFI where the ball goes. He has a lesser first class record then Tait.

Care to ingore the facts?

Johnson has made a career outta pulling wickets out his arse, with leg side deliveries, batsmen chasing wide balls outside off stump, skying to slips, getting caught in the deep....

So Kallis being given not out when the ball hit his gloves........ That had nothing to do with Tait?

Fact is Tait's shield form is crap - he knows it. He needs to finish off the season well by getting his body right. For the moment - 20-20 and one-dayers are all he can hope for.

He is the spark that Australia desperately needs in Test cricket. Our attack is too pedestrian - we need an x-factor - but he needs to be in form and also doesn't break down every two weeks (enter Mr Watson as well).

tait only took two wickets last night.

and he had Kallis out.

so are kallis and ab bunnies?

what does johnson do? bowls better than any other australian bowler this summer for 1.

is consistent. has some idea of line and length. has more than just pace in his bag of tricks.

that was the worst comparison you could have made.

what facts am i ignoring? the "fact" that you say tubby says that?

firtsly, show me proof that he says it. secondly, do you agree with everything any commentator has ever said? what if tubby and warne said something that conflicted, which i am sure they have? do we all give up and say its too hard for us to have an opinion?

Well said !
I was actually at the game last night. I also went to the first 3 days of the Boxing Day test.
Just the speed Tait generated last night was intimidating. Anyone would have been intimidated. The only way you can see how fast this guy bowls is to be at the ground. He intimidates the batsmen with the speed and does not act like a mate towards them. He does not give a rats if he hurts them.
Kallis was out but not given and he clearly shook up De Villiers.
Who shook DeVilliers up in Perth I ask???
Who shook up the the South Africa tail on the 3rd day of the boxing day test???
That's why we bloody lost the tests, because the South Africans were comfortable with our bowlers who could not get wickets or shake them up in any way.
Even if Tait does not get wickets, he puts fear into the batsmen with his speed. He is unpredictable, which in a way is good. He might bowl a wide or he might bowl a yorker that will knock the stumps out of the ground.
All of you Tait knockers are morons. :p

So I take it you don't watch any cricket then?

Outside of his one spell at the WACA this summer - enlighten me how he has been a star - consistent and has bowled at line (LOL) and length.

Do you mean he intends to bowl every 4th or 5th ball down legside, and three so wide outside offstump - the batsman eventually gets tempted one too many times and plays a rash shot?

I bet you thught Peter Taylor was a great off-spinner.

where did i mention star?

all i said was he was the best and most consistent we had this summer.

his line and length relative to taits makes him look like mcgrath.

thank you, someone out there watches cricket!!!!!

though I could argue a few of those in that Perth spell weren't quality balls either...

Top post, jealous I wasn't there.

But that over on TV had me the most excited I have been watching cricket in a long long time.

He wouldn't have sat there bowling 120-130kmh crud like our test bowlers. He is a strike bowler. We don't have one in the test team anymore and it shows alot.

He did also have Kallis out but the ump got it wrong.

there isn't a bowler in Australia who can hit the pitch exactly where they want it, Mcgrath and Warne were about it for us, even Dizzy had the odd lapse in control. The current test bowling team couldn't bowl 6 balls on the same spot to save their lives so Taits issue is hardly an issue its just more pronounced than the others, but so are the rest of his skills.

Agreed the over was exciting, but have you watched any of the recent tests? Siddle, Johnson, Bollinger were all into the 140s, Siddle even was up towards 150 at some stages, Lee was injured but he can get up there too. I think that's one of the good things about our new look pace attack, they're all pretty quick. And Hilfenhaus can get pretty sharp from what i remember.
