Look at every side

Hawks take out Gibson who they got
Sydney take our Richards who they got
Tigers take out Range who's left
If Crows take out Talia there screwed

You could almost go through the whole comp
It's a ridiculous to think you can replace a ready made AFL KKD with another lucky we have some depth

Frawley and Spangher

Talia and Grundy, who some Swan fans will argue are ahead of Richards.

Astbury and Rance.

Hartigan and Lever say otherwise.

Grundy is almost finished and cmon Talia got towered up by Darcy Moore for 5 majors

Rance is out Astbury and who massive drop in experience and talent

I'll give you frawley and spanger but both are also injury prone, frawley with a shoulder especially.

Lever and Hartigan have played less than 10 games together and less than 50 together.

Your really clutching at the straws, what I saying is it's the hardest position to replace a like for like with the talent and experience

I think you're the one clutching at straws and you could argue that about any key position. I'd argue rucks and key forwards are allot harder to replace like for like than key defenders.

Reid is fine? No.
Brown needs to play every game.
Frost number 2 tall doesn't make me thrilled.
Marsh number 3 tall. Alarm bells.
Crisp as a tall defender?
Toovey just no. Gault kicked 5 on him ffs.
Moore?.. yeh Cloke will be fine by himself with 5 men hanging off him up front.

Stop it.

Can someone link me to the article sighting Ben Reids injury?
I found one sensible post - it was ignored pretty much

Edit* just read the Reid thread - man this is getting frustrating. Seems Paige was right again. o_O:rolleyes:

Agree.

Agree

Marsh number 3 tall. Alarm bells.

How? He was always going to be the number three this year and he'll go fine as the number two. Bigger, quicker and rebounds more than Frost.

Crisp as a tall defender?

I wouldn't mind him as a number three actually. Nice height, would use it well out of the backline, is tough and can take a grab would be able too take some intercept marks.

Will probably have all six defenders with Elliott and Howe out.

The topic is KPD and how we are all of a sudden low on depth, my argument suggestion our best defender is out with an injury, if you take any other teams best KPD out there really thin of worse of than us.

Malthouse had Presti Clement Wakelin, then Maxwell N. Brown L.Brown then Tarrant. Bucks just hasn't made the backline a priority which is part of our downfall. Reid is just about done. Frost not sure he's up to it. Marsh has youth but where the hell is our experience down back?

Nathan Brown that is all.
Frost has his work cut out shouldn't be a second string tall but now becomes vital. Smashed by Vickery in 2015.
Goldsack gone.
Reid gone.
We are in big trouble searching for 3 tall defenders.

Throw in Marsh as well. Two bad hammies already in his short career.

The Brown / Reid combination is the key in returning to the finals. Obviously both players have had lots of injuries so there is a big risk. If one or both go down we will be in all sorts of trouble. We would be relying on Frost, Marsh and possibly Moore to hold up the backline.

Goldsack also looks like he wil struggle this year.

I reckon we should try Jesse White in defence. He's too unreliable up forward and there are others who can play there.

Cloke. Cloke should be played down back.

I'll say this until the day he retires.

He has all the physical attributes to make a fantastic centre half back. His field kicking is more than adequate for the role and with a kick as booming as his could launch attacks from CHB with ease. We also would improve our goal kicking accuracy as a side considerably and our forward line would become less predictable.

HAving said that, I think Marsh with some more weight on him could be a really could backman long term.

Cloke would get murdered down back.

Nah. Would beat ALL the gorillas one on one and at centre half back wouldn't have to worry about being beaten on the lead. We've all seen that he puts on great pressure for a big man, arguably better than both Brown and Reid so I don't see the issue.

The operative word was 'try'. He wouldn't be the first unreliable forward to succeed down back.
you could try but l don't think white has the smarts for down back

Cloke would get murdered down back.
Hypothetically lets say he did play down back. Why do you think he would get murdered Jmac.
He has a fantastic tank. He is a big guy and very strong. Body on body not many could match him. For his size he is not exactly a lumbering type, has some speed.
It's never going to happen but if it did why are you certain it would be a failure.

His number one asset is contested marking. Take that away by sending into the backline and theres not much left

Sitting out a ban.
Can't see what the fuss is. We are all saying our backline has the future but lacks experience. Now we are going to give them that experience in a year where we know we are not contenders and the sky is falling?
We threw Pendles back last year. Worked out fine. We do it again. Midfield has more class with Treloar and Aish this season. Will be alright I reckon. Not ideal but it is what it is.
And get a grip, it is becoming embarrassing.

At the start of 2010 Brown had played just 37 games (13 in he prior year) Reid 8 and Dawes 10. Inexperience didnt stop them forming 3/4s of a premiership spine.

We now have Reid (105) Brown (114) Frost (44) Langdon (41) (Marsh (5) as a good spread of experience. Keeffe (40) and Scharenburg (4) are waiting in the wings. Then there are other taller options like Pendlebury Crisp and of course Goldsack. Its no secret that Reid and Brown have missed a lot of football over the years due to injury but looking backwards is pointless. Arguably it would be good to have another young key back on our list (I'd have liked Hartley) but that wouldnt make much difference to our season 2016.

Moore is a potential to play back if required.
