I've started this poll after seeing quite a disturbing number of Richmond supporters who bang on about how Tambling is/has done as much at Richmond as Thomas has at Collingwood ( both on BF Richmond board, and over at PRE).

It seems to some Richmond supporters that Thomas gets a good run from the media and supporters while doing nothing much at all, but Tambling gets the rough end of the stick even though both of them are comparable in performance.

So I ask the people in here..... Firstly, Who has been the better player, and perhaps you can also add as to whether or not you think Thomas has played to a similar level to Tambling but just been looked after by the media?

I'm very interested to see what neutral supporters think.

Is Thomas really over-rated though??

This is where Richmond supporters seem to sit.
They also think Thomas is over-rated and that Tambling has been just as good if not better.

Tambling probably hasn't been as good. Either way they are both spuds but at least there is hope Thomas still could be great.

Let's just say he overrates himself ;).

On the field he may overrate himself with the confidence he shows, but off the field he's as modest as can be. Every time I've spoken to him - and every story I hear - he's been extremely humble as to where he's gotten himself.

But yes, Thomas is definitely overrated in terms of the exposure he gets. But I think the football public (i.e. bigfooty) does somewhat underestimate his ability as a result of this overrating by the media. He is an extremely damaging player, and is far better than Tambling.

Thomas is overexposed, but not overrated... particularly not in light of the non-stop baseless slagging he receives on BigFooty. "Thomas is soft" is the no. 1 myth propagated on BigFooty... it has never once been backed up with footage, despite the aforementioned overexposure of him as a player. That's because no such footage exists, he never shirks contests.

That is the problem.

Thomas has been used as a promotional figure from the time he entered the club. Pendlebury has hardly been used at all.

So opposition fans are sick of seeing and reading about Thomas, and hence deem him to be over-rated, when in actual fact it is the exposure that is the problem.

Thomas.

In saying this, I still think Tambling gets more maligned by the footballing public than he would if he hadn't been part of the Franklin draft saga.

He isn't as bad as people make out by any means, and is well worth perservering with.

As for Thomas, its quite criminal the savaging he gets from a lot of quarters on this site. He's a very good young talent and will have a fine career for the Pies.

Both have similar numbers, but Thomas is probably more damaging. I'd think Tambling would get more tackles and hard ball gets though. But a goalkicker is better generally, so Thomas.

Thomas is far more damaging.

Not only does he kick goals but he hits targets.

Tambling's diposal and intensity can be quite questionable at times.

Meaning he kicks more goals. If Thomas played half back, where Tambling excelled this year, he'd struggle. And people say Thomas is the real matchwinner, and I have no reason to doubt this, but is this just from small burts, which he seems to specialise in, or late goals to put Collingwood in front, or is it from consistent, whole-game efforts? I think the former, which would lend itself to the theory that Tambling is more consistent. And Tambling's disposal isn't as bad as it's made out to be...

But as I said before, because he kicks goals, Thomas.

How would Thomas struggle on half-back? He'd be able to get far more uncontested ball and utilise his run-and-carry far more than in the forward half. He's more damaging because he kicks goals, he's more damaging because he hits targets, he's more damaging because he is more creative, he's more damaging because he can take contested marks and win the hard ball.

:thumbsu:

Thomas thus far.

Tambling will be the better player. :thumbsu:
I guess some people can live in hope.

Perhaps Tambling needs a change of scenery.

Thomas by a long way. Tambling is a failure at AFL level, he isn't a solid player that just 'hasn't lived up to his potential', he is not just a let down, he is a flat out dud.

i have not been happy with his output so far.but a "flat out dud"!!
he would be in the top 10 players at your club.good luck this year

Spot on.

Thomas is although a better proposition than Tambling. By a mile at least.
