News Team vs Lions

Tom Collier is going to be a bit of a wild card against us. He's actually a mate of mine from high school, and the guy is an amazing athelete. He was shit in the backline, but they've moved him to play in the forward line in the QAFL, and apparently he's been thriving. Could be interesting, I wish him the best but hope he doesn't do too well.

Good changes.

People are being harsh on the Caff, he had a solid game...sure he missed two massive goals but he worked hard and found the space to actually get the ball up forward inside the 50, something many other more highly rated players in our team failed to do.

O'Bree, geebus the more things change the more they stay the same.....who the feck is O'Bree keeping out of the team...Barham?? O'Bree was dropped, dominated at VFL level came back and has been more than serviceable since coming back. People may make a case that he upsets the structure and forces Pendles to be more outside.....well that aint such a bad thing, the season is a marathon and not a sprint, so if we can give Pendles some games where he is out of the thick of it he will hopefully be cherry ripe later on in the season.

Wood, give him two more weeks....if he aint shown anything Fraser needs to come back in (if fit). Even the Fraser basher's are starting to grumble about Wood.

People need to realise that the season is long and punishing, look at Melbourne...they have rested Scully, Trengrove and McKenzie this week....young guys simply cant keep it up all season.

Our senior blokes O'Bree, Lockyer and even L.Brown still may have roles to play.

A good looking team.....Dick, Medhurst, Davis and Fraser prob the only four people I would bring in for our 'best 22' come finals time.

After last week I would be pretty keen to replace Macaffer. Barham's form has earned him a place, and if memory serves correctly Barham was BOG last year against Brisbane..

I'm afraid it doesn't. He did very well on Power, but he also broke a record for most turnovers by a debutant.

Any news on the 'Sack?

Almost the forgotten man now that Tooves has turned into a bit of a cult hero and is playing well. The Sack may be good for a few games later in the season.

Happy with those changes, especially with Presti bak.

Expected Presti for Brown & Jack is next best in line seen as Medders didn't come up.

Had Macaffer come out for Lockyer I would have been very happy!

Calls for Barham back in I just can't agree with. Even at VFL level, well games I've been to, his disposal & decision making is average at best. Along with Macaffer I dont see him contributing to the cause of winning the Pies a flag.

Sometimes it's just nice to see a fresh face in the team. Barham is such a face, and Macaffer is a bit boring at the moment so, hey! let's have a change. Or O'Bree for Barham, or Fraser in for Wood.

Isn't what you haven't got often what you want? Talking of faces, welcome back Presti!

After reading some good posts i've changed my mind on the Caff. Happy they kept him in.

Go Pies.

Rounds also back in the VFL. Stanley named interchange for Gold Coast. I hope he plays well, and at the same time, hope he doesn't! McNamara not named?

Might try running that line with the missus. You know, needing a fresh face, bit boring at the moment and all that. Reckon she'll go for it?

(In all seriousness though, you're dead on. We all want to win, but we also want to be entertained - and who would go to see the same show every week?)

I'm very happy that OBree is selected, and hope that he plays deep forward. With our habit of kicking long to the hotspot, we need a good crumber. I actually think that OBree can offer more than Davis and Medhurst in this role, because he reads the ball better off the pack and is better in close. Ideally I'd like to see OBree in this role and Davis and Medhurst playing high half forward.

I'd much prefer Lockyer on a flank than O'Bree. As much as he seems like a nice guy, I just don't think there's a place in the team for Shane anymore.

Interesting!

Davis has been ordinary and looked like he had no 3rd gear v Geelong.
Presti has to play. Brown has been dissapointing. Reid has been ok but not a lot more.
Happy to retain Dawes. Like to see Medhurst in before Anthony but I'd love to see Jack kick 5 and make a claim.
McCaffer isn't up to it (yet?)
O'Bree should be there for September emergency only - or if one of Wellingham, Sidebottom or Beams falls in a heap. Wellingham is the only possibility there IMI. McCarthy isn't up to it yet. I've seen enought at times to persist though.
Dick is massivily over rated by those calling for his inclusion. He has some talent and potential though. We can't rely on him yet but we need to give him games. This wouldn't be a bad time to blood him if fit.

I'm happy with the inclusions. Anthony and Presti were musts. My only concern like others is O'Brees inclusion. Simply because I think he buggers around with our structures. But tbh there aren't really any players knocking the door down at selection. Mccarthy is the only one i'd consider but he's obviously injured. Beams or Sidey could be moved into a greater midfield role with Lockyer in on the hff, but that would probably only affect our forward pressure. Overall pleased with the inclusions.

o'bree to do a tyson edwards and blair to play next week against the doggies :thumbsu:

Why is there such hate for a man who has played almost 250 games for our club?

As mentioned above who should be replacing him this week?

Dick - Not ready.
Medhurst - Injured.
Davis - You were all calling for his head 4 weeks ago.
Barham - One of the main reasons you want Cheesey gone is his disposal and upsetting our midfield structure.... Just think about this for a second.
Some other young kid I haven't mentioned who has been playing OK in the 2's - We already have a massive amount of young kids in the side. O'Bree's leadership and ability to direct traffic in the middle is second to none at Collingwood.

This may well be his last year. He wont play every game for the rest of the year. But IMO he deserves our respect at least.

No-one hates him (well not many anyway) but the big problem with him is that the game has now passed him by. He is slow and his disposal is very ordinary.

The biggest problem though is that when he is in it completely stuffs up our structure. When he plays in the middle MM puts Pendles on the HFF which completey mystifies me. When O'Bree is up forward he is simply no bloody good as he is not a forwards @sshole.

The obvious replacement for O'Bree which you completely overlooked is Lockyer. Ok, he is slow too and the game is passing him by a little, but he can play as a genuine small/medium forward and can kick goals. He would also sure up our structure rather than detract from it.

.

1.he cant kick after 10 years of playing professional football.Sorry I have no respect for a player that refuses to work on their weaknesses

2.Consistently fails to deliver in big games.

The more I think of it the more I like DaVes reasoning behind O'Brees inclusion. I don't see any reason to smash Balls groin on a hard GABBA pitch when we have a guy like O'Bree that can perform that role well. I'd like to see Balls gametime limited like Pendles was last week and O'Bree given a more prominent role alongside Pendles in the middle.

What will Barham offer us that O'Bree doesn't??? Better disposal?

Speed, better tackling pressure, a player that can break the lines. I'm not saying he should get a gig but he offers different qualities to O'Bree. Their not really competing for the same position in the seniors though.

Surpised Macaffer is still in. Hopefully a late change sees him out.

If the side stays as selected hopefully we line up like this:

B: Harry O'Brien, Simon Prestigiacomo, Alan Toovey
HB: Heath Shaw, Ben Reid, Nick Maxwell
C: Sharrod Wellingham, Dane Swan, Ben Johnson
HF: Dale Thomas, Travis Cloke, Alan Didak
F: Dayne Beams, Chris Dawes, John Anthony
Foll: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Luke Ball
I/C: Shane O'Bree, Brent Macaffer, Steele Sidebottom, Cameron Wood

Hopefully in the coming weeks we see Macaffer and O'Bree out of the side for Leon and Medhurst.
Then possibly Wood for Fraser and one of Dawes/Anthony for Dick.
