In: Roberton, Palmer, Ballantyne :), Mzungu :D

Out: Anthony, Van Berlo, Pitt, Mcphee

Emergency; Van Berlo, Griffen

I'd be pretty happy if that's the side that runs out (although I'd also have liked griffen to give Sandilands an easier game but with 4 changes already...) You'd be as likely (or almost) to be injured in the wafl as you are the afl and so I think the biggest risk with Mzungu coming straight in is his contribution to the team and at this point if the medicos/coaches think he has the fitness that 's a risk worth taking imo.

I am a bit disappointed that Anthony has been left out. He didnt do that much last week but he didn't have many opportunities.

I know most would have wanted Critchon dropped but I think he improved on the Tigers game and will need AFL experience to improve his game. I think his development will be fast tracked by playing AFL and his upper limit is greater than most people think. However, he will have to continue improving each game because at the moment he is still off AFL skill level.

I am a little biased as he is my buddy. :p

It looks like Port are only playing the 1 genuine ruckman this week, so I doubt Griffin will come into the side.

the foreigner to tear it up

provides a much more solid body than Pitt/Jesse and I said in another thread I suspect Port will go physical, really try to slow the game down and turn it in to a real scrappy affair

yeah JA seemed a bit sore towards the end of the game - I also thought he didn't do too much wrong with the limited opportunities he had and to drop him is a bit harsh, but if he can keep up his WAFL form he'll be back in the team soon enough given we need some more targets up forward

Wait, so Jesse is still in the team then? Even though he is slim-framed (as mentioned earlier) he's not a bad player just needs some consistensy and confidence (and what better team to play against to get him up to speed)

Might have helped if he actually played in that game :p

but seriously he doesn't deserve a spot in this team at all

Except that he's been in great form in the WAFL. Was poor in his first AFl grame for the year which Harvey suggested was because of the role he was given. Clearly the coaches see something in him, and he has done what is asked of him at WAFL level, so hard to say he doesn't deserve a spot, especially when you consider our injury situation. I know he didn't look excellent last week but maybe he needs a bit of confidence shown in him and an extended run in the team may bring out the best in him? I am pleased to see him there, although I wouldn't have him as part of the best 22 at full strength. Hopefully he finds his feet at AFL level and strings together a couple of good performances

Yeah Anthony seemed to be limping during last quarter.
So could be injured but since hes not in any injury reports we have to assume he is fit.
So its abit harsh dropping him.

Glad Griffen isnt in seriously when Sandi is selected its impossible for a coach to say nah leave Sandi on the bench for or sitting in forward line for 5-10mins per quarter.
He has the endurance an is so dominant they will always want to get him back into the action as quick as possible.
I dont doubt Griffen would do well as backup but during a game he jjust wont get enough opportunities to make his inclusion worthwhile.
Much better putting a player who can get more of the ball an provide more run.

I would luv to see Sandi get more rest so that he doesnt tire before end of season.
Also guys built like Fyfe etc so that they dont risk injuries from overuse/body not quite ready for so much games an gametime.
But when there so good its hard to think of the future as the coach is more worried about right now in that game.

Also would of liked to see VB playing instead of Crowley

I think Crowley gives us more in attack, a stronger body and is a better overhead. Apart from JVB 4 goals against the Dogs, he hasn't done much in the past

^this :thumbsu:
Crowley carved it up last year against Port, kicked 4 2nd half goals and got 3 Brownlow votes for his efforts.

I disagree, if he doesn't play this week and isn't injured it's hard to see when he'll get a game. If he can't get a run while Pav's playing midfield, McPhee and Silvagni are injured, Johnson's in career worst form and we're only playing one ruckman with around 26 players to pick from when will he be in the 22?

Based on this weeks selections I'd say he needs an injury to Bradley or Sandilands to get a run.

Playing goo off the bench as the sub would be the worst possible outcome for his development. So god damn much has been made of his superior fitness that he should start on the pitch or not start at all. The best subs this year have been explosive young rookies that cant quite run the game out yet, not hard bodied senior players.

2c deposited.

-1 for calling the oval a pitch.... damn soccer crap... ;)

im happy to see jesse playing, lets face it, we have so many injuries, we might as well develop our good young players.

im a bit disappointed anthony was dropped, im not sure what more he could have done playing full forward in what was a wasteland for forwards last week.

glad roberton is in, have noticed the steady incline in negative comments towards dylan, which i find disappointing, because he has so much to offer us in the future.

suprised mzungu is playing actually, would have thought a nice 20-odd possession game in the wafl would have been required first, but it is good to finally see him in the jumper all the same. what number is he btw?

im hoping for a 2008 palmer performance this week, he is so important to our team, if he can become the stoppage player we all thought he was going to be, then pav can move back to where he belongs

Agree with all of that KPR. Mzzzzzz is lucky number 13 I believe.

And I do think Palmer and Lower in the midfield are keys to the next few weeks for us, if they are both played away from the midfield we will struggle. Important not just for what it does for Pav but also for how it gives Sandi more targets for taps and for how it frees Mundy up a bit...

Finally, Pitt is out. Can't afford to carry him - horrible selection picking him over Palmer last week. Let's hope Jayden is actually made to play his first WAFL game this week and earn his next game.

JVB out is good. We've been playing too many negators all year, especially with so many of our playmakers out it just puts too much pressure on our big 4 (you know who they are).

Anthony out is the one junk decision of the week (there had to be one!). Johnson has been playing at somewhere between Josh Head and Dodd's level all year - Anthony is better value than that and has proved himself down back before. Jack's actually an elite field kick.

Anyway, hopefully the coaches have learnt from the weekend that Palmer plays his best footy on the ball and our forward structure is junk without Pav.

But I'm not holding my breath.

Can't wait to see Mzungu :thumbsu: We badly need both his and Ballas run.

heh, he has been horrible, id venture to say josh head and dan parker.... i didnt like dodd as a player, but atleast he had balls, and was bloody hard at it, atm i wish MJ had that

Haha yeh... exactly.

A good example is McPhee last year. He was in horrible form but he was still hard at it, making massive tackles, blocking, doing the team things and 1%'s.

For MJ, a hard ball get is when it takes him a long time to pick the ball up. Just do the team things, spoil hard and put his head over the ball if he's forgotten how to do everything else. If he did that he'd get more support around here.
