Recently, there's been a lot of talk about the Blues not being worthy of making the finals this year.

I beg to differ, the Blues have beaten the Dogs, Pies (They were depleted but we've also won 3 of the last 4 against them so we've proven we can beat them) and Lions twice and have pushed the Saints defence by kicking the highest score against them so far this season and almost pulling off the victory.

We got belted by the Pies the second time around and also by the Bombers but we did almost beat them the first time we played. We lost to the Crows at AAMI, there's no shame in that.

However, some of the other teams in the eight havn't really knocked off too many other top eight teams.

The Lions have beaten Essendon at the Gabba and Adelaide at the Gabba. The Geelong win was also at the Gabba and their side was very depleted.

The Dogs have beaten Adelaide at AAMI and Essendon, NO ONE ELSE, although they did push the Cats.

The Crows have beaten the Pies by less than a kick IIRC, us at AAMI and Essendon.

These three sides have had less victories than us against top eight sides but are all fighting for top 4.

Essendon has lost to every team in the eight except us which they narrowly avoided the first time we played.

So are we still undeserving of playing finals? If so, Why do the other teams that are/aren't there deserve it more?

Some very good points there, but don't expect to get any positive comments towards Carlton from anyone but Carlton fans. You obviously haven't read the unoffical rules of big footy. Rule 1, never give Carlton credit.
also, was interesting to see the Saints almost get knocked off by a team we beat by 60 points only two weeks earlier, but until last night Sydney were rubbish and that win meant nothing. Also good to see Brisbaen get flogged last night, score board might have only been 40 points in the end, but they got hammered.

anyway, next 4 weeks will tell us alot about teams in the top 8, all have some tough games ahead.

If you play like you did against us you will get knocked out first week, but that doesn't mean you don't deserve to be in the finals.

Why didn't you name this thread 'Carlton deserve to be in the finals' ?

Because I discuss the other team's performances so far this year and compare them, then I put the question as to why they deserve it more than us.

If you read it, you'd already know that.

But it seems like nobody has a good constructive answer and all they can do is say stuff like 'this is stupid' , or 'biased Carlton supporter'.

I think the comments that they 'don't deserve to play finals' are mainly based on recent performance. Football fans are a fickle group who can't remember further back than 2 or 3 rounds, and let's admit it, you've been lucky to scrape wins in recently over bottom sides.

By the same token, people are saying Hawthorn deserve to be in because of their recent performances, but are conveniently forgetting some of the absolute crap they've dished up in the past (ie. against the bulldogs).

Essendon has lost to every team in the eight except us which they narrowly avoided the first time we played.

Hmm don't let the fact that Essendon also beat Collingwood the first time we played them, get in the way.

And if you are also counting the fact you gave St Kilda a good challenge, then I'll count the fact we also did as well.

No we haven't beaten a lot of top 8 teams, hence why we are pretty much challenging for 8th and it is pretty clear if we do make the finals we will just be making up the numbers.

Hawthorn have played rubbish football for 80% of the year and probably don't deserve to play finals ahead of Essendon who've played much better football, BUT we'll bloody well take it if we can. Apparently Geelong deserved to win the flag last year but we were better than them at the end of the day and that's all that really matters.

You deserve to be in the top 8 if you win enough games to get there, plain and simple. It doesn't matter if you beat all the teams in the top 4, if you can't also beat the lower teams to make up the rest of the required wins then you're not good enough to be in the finals. A win is a win, no matter who it's against it's still worth 4 points and if you don't get enough of them then you don't make the finals.

I don't buy into this "deserve to be in the finals because we beat better teams than your team did" crap. Get enough wins, you make the 8.

The OP's name sums why Carlton are anywhere near the 8,

They've had a dream run of tanking and/or shithouse sides. Can't recall a worse side looking set for finals. Whoever lands them in the first week should give serious thought to resting players for the following week.

An "almost" win is not a victory.

There is however shame in not scoring a goal in the first half.

Their spot in the 8 is surely justified?

These three sides have had less victories than us against top eight sides but are all fighting for top 4. The fact you can beat Top 8 sides is useless if you lose to sides in the bottom 8?

Lol, this is full of contradictions.
You are playing down Western Bulldogs season, whilst boasting wins over them xD

And the Hawks are apparantly a 85 point better side than Brisbane on that logic

OK, now my head hurts:eek::D You can have the points from earlier in the year down in Tassie:p
