McKernan - Seems a Natural Footballer, Good Mark good Long Kick

Who would you Rather?

If we took a tall I'd rather Trengrove.

But surely with the retirements and de-listing mostly being running players and midfielder we won't go tall with our first pick. Surely....right:confused:

I would like one of Sidebottom, Hill, Blease, Heyne or Swift, but we could probably risk getting Swift in the second round.

No to McKernan, he is basically a young version of Chris Bryan or Cameron Cloke, he is a ruckman foremost , but will be too short for a ruckman at AFL level, and he is too slow for a KPP player.

Trengove looks ok, but has an injury risk, and most good defenders at AFL level have come from later in the draft, so if we are to draft a KP back it should be 2nd or 3rd round.

Don't believe the people who say midfielders are a dime a dozen, if it was so we wouldn't have the midfield problems we have now, we must take a mid with our first pick as the mids available at our pick will be better or at the same level as the talls who will be available.

Dont know much about this years crop, but please, stop talking about KPP or ruckmen.

We need midfielders, and more specifically outside midfielders.

Just look at Chance Bateman last night, speed, skill and that X Factor.

Add an outside midfielder to Clarke, Pendles, Davis, Swan, Thomas etc, and in 2-3 years we will have a flag potential midfield.

Plus we are gettin reed and O'Keefe (not sure about his name) who are both long term KPP or ruckmen.

WE NEED MIDFIELDERS.

McKernan looks a terrible kick. No thanks. Hopefully we start drafting some players that can actually kick the thing!

Agree with pretty much everyone here for a couple of reasons. I wouldn't be against taking another ruck either as a rookie or late pick to help with depth down the track but even then it would depend on whether we thought Thoolen could make it as a ruck.

As for now drafting a ruck isn't going to fix our ruck problem now, rucks take a while to develop. We have Wood and Keefe as developing rucks Fraser whos got a few years left and Bryan who is hopefully pushed into the depth basket and then out the door.

We surely should not think about rucks until the 3rd round at the absolute earliest.

I also agree with the question marks on McKernan. He is a player but is likely to end up to small for the ruck and there is question marks on his pace as a KPP.
