There was an NFL draft like 20 years ago where a team with a top 10 pick (Minnesota Vikings) were trying to finalise a trade and ran out of time (actually, the team they were trying to trade with couldn't get through to the guy they needed to speak to in order to finalise the trade), and the two teams directly behind them pretty much ran to submit their picks to the NFL desk. So they lost two draft slots before they finally submitted their pick.

The player Minnesota picked ended up being a great player, but they pretty much got screwed out of extra picks since their trade down didn't go through.
