Frustrating we've lost out incrementally all offseason whenever there's a deal done by the list management team. Not sure it all balances out, all that trade capital and bottoming out spent for the talent premium bought in. Nothing on the three kids chosen tonight. Even that Barrass trade ended up costing Sharpe most likely.
PM Bangers rankings who I think does good work had Lindsay ranked at 16 in the 3rd Tier who he thinks have the talent to be good or above average players at the very least.
Duursma was by him in the 1st Tier by himself and then the Duff in the second with a group of 6.
All the players in the first 3 Tiers got drafted & the only one left at out pick in the 3rd Tier was Lindsay which might have been the same with our rankings which is why we gave up the F2
Addinsall & Murray where in the 4th Tier of his rankings.

Hey I personally absolutely love that a new club can trade in a player of Petracca’s pedigree while also getting two top 5 picks and pick 19 and 20.
It makes me feel much better about them giving us pick one in 1996 after they’d removed the best 12 players

At what point can we trade away (or trade down) our next 2 picks for future picks and still be able to match bids on our NGA/FS players?
With the minimal deficit surely we match with our 2nd pick of that’s that plan and either trade up or out for an F2 if we can get one from a bottom 8ish team.When trying to work out what the discount is I couldn’t work find the discount on the AFL website, however the Adelaide and Collingwood club websites both state 197 points for bids in the 2nd round and beyond.

I'm surprised how well people are taking giving away a 2nd rounder to slide up one place ..... Just crazy business
Lindsay is not Vanilla. He's got some of the best footskills in a junior i've seen. I hope he turns into a bit of a Jayden Short fo us. That said, I am not happy if we really did give a future second to move up one pick for him, after we failed to secure an earlier pick.

I welcome them all as the best talents WC thinks they are.
Lindsay was the best available at the pick and can live with that, even if we had to pay STK F2nd to get him.
Over pay but thats how the draft unfolds sometimes.
Conclusion on night 1.
We fielded heaps of interest in pick 2 and clubs chose not to pay overs for it and we drafted best available talent in CDT.
We are allergic to picking elite mids in the top teir of the draft.
We are placing an enourmous amount of faith in the 2026 midfield talent as we are bare by 2 or 3 in list needs.

They did get Dovatson, so you would think a Tall, but they don't seem to like talls much?
Green picks are in , we had pick 17 green .
Hawks had our 2026 F2 in green .
Trade down would be best .
Nearly half the team's out of contract next next year and there will be players potentially leaving as free agents and trades( Williams X2, for example), plus you can trade 2 years into the future now.
Giving up a pick in the 35-45 range is very far from being the end of the world...

A likely scenario is.
- Trade pick 29 for the best future pick available.
- Match a bid on Williams and lose pick 34.
- No more main list drafting leaving a pick open for SPP.
- Cat A rookie Banfield.
- Cat B rookie Evans and Walley.
We picked up Duursma and there were no other elite mids in the top end of the draft.

Putting their eggs in the Trembath bucket. They've picked quite a few talls recently, just none at the pointy end. They desperately needed a real small forward like Dovaston though, because all they have are HFFs.

Where did you get pick 43 from? It's likely to be in the 30's. Are there expected to be twice as matched bids next year?
I just watched the replay and it def shows us getting a Hawks F 2nd back??
Zero hanger also has GWS not getting a 2nd back from the Hawks, but again the graphic of the live trade showed GWS getting a F 2nd back??

Clubs also get a discount on the points required to match a bid, which also needs to be factored in. There is a 20 per cent discount for matching bids in the first round and then the discount is fixed at 197 points.
If a club makes a bid with pick 1, which is worth 3000 points, the other club needs to give up picks worth a combined 2700 points (3000 points, less 10 per cent) in order to match the bid and secure the player.
