And a song to sing as we watch,

Hey Matty Clarke by Kevin (Random260) Wilson :

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp

If I wanted a stupid ruckman type, I would’ve bloody asked
And this half back flank and temu mid, you can shove right up your arse
You’ve stuffed the bloody order up, it’s enough to make you spew
But it’s not just me who’s snakey, SGIO is dirty too

Next time I come to see ya, I’m going to punch you in the guts
And I’ll sack the other recruiting knobs and kick Toddy in the nuts
You just wait 'til next year when you go back to the draft
And me and me little GIO come stomping through the door
And we'll say, yeah, you wait for it

Hey Pyke and Woosh you smell his breath
And check his bloodshot eyes
And don't listen to him eagles fans 'cause he tells ****ing lies
He's just a ****ing useless campaigner and he's not even very bright
'Cause the stupid ****in' w***er, forgot me ****in' Sharp

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp

It's funny how it interrupted the lyrics XD

And if one or more of Long/Johnston/Bazzo aren’t delistable. If we have better NGA/FS prospects (likely) and want to take more than 5 picks in the draft, we had 2 trade ins this year 2+ 1 fa the year before, what if we acquire more than 1 trade in?

We didn’t rate either Evans or Banfield as main list worthy, I personally disagree with that assessment on both fronts but the West Coast recruiters have watched a lot more of them than you or I.

The club which many describe as soft does something ruthless and instead of people accepting it for what it likely is (us not believing Banfield/Evans are worth of a list spot, Evans confirmed as much in his case), they decide that we just forgot we could put Cripps on the rookie list.
So is the logic that each year we should have 12 OOC players at all times?

Lets say Long becomes the next Eddie Betts then pressure just goes to the next person that is Tyler Brockman and so forth

Next years draft is simply impossible to turn the way you are suggesting. We will have all our 2nd and 3rd round picks eaten up by Kehrn and Banfield (well id hope so). Unless you want to take pick 80 odd then its not really viable. A part of list management is reading the future... We will take 5 max for certain

If we dont believe they are worth a list spot then we wouldnt have nominated them? Its what Collingwood did after all and well any professional club has done. Gold Coast didnt nominate all their players and nor did Sydney. Do you really think we gave these guys games in the WAFL if we didnt want them? Its ignoring the evidence infront of your eyes here

Huh? Next years delistings are not gonna be a problem

Delist

Harry Barnett
Jamie Cripps
Tom Cole
Matt Flynn
Harvey Johnston
Rhett Bazzo

Id then consider that Newton/Long are both fighting for the 1 spot to make it 7. This isnt including that people may ask to leave too. Id expect Jack Williams to get a ton of trade interest as well.

I dont think next years crop of delistings is a gotcha moment here
You missed Bailey Williams.

It gets to the point though where we delist/don’t take some one we rate higher than the two NGA lads, based on yesterday I don’t think that point was very far.

Far from impossible. Kehn and Banfield get nominated after our 3rd rounder in a stronger draft and we split our first or second, that’s literally all it would take to have 6 picks. Even id they’re bid on earlier, there’s drafts (like last year) where those picks in the 50s are higher rated than Banfield/Evans.

We don’t believe they’re worth a main list spot, we would have taken them if they fell through to the rookie draft. Evans has said as much in the interview, we were alluding to it when we said we didn’t make any of our nominees guarantees to be matched.

Its not about player x.

Its about putting ourselves into a position where we dont have any control or choice on matching players late and players who we spent years developing or a father son in a position of need.

Because we didn't want to match bids on those guys in the ND. It's clear as day, considering Evans himself said he basically knew west coast wouldn't match a bid.

Obviously other clubs rated our nga's and father son. We basically said, if you rate players we have priority access to you can have them.

A d other clubs also gave up on their NGAs. Should they have just added them at all costs instead?

We put retaining old veterans and struggling fringe players ahead of our future.

Or, as Jamie Maddocks(head of recruitment) said just before preseason, you can't just keep flooding your list with 18yos.

Piss poor planning results in piss poor outcomes. We looked like amateurs last night.

Oh I think they planned and got the exact outcome they were expecting.

We only look like 'amateurs' because, as usual, people got overly attached to certain players and are pissed the club didn't go off course to accommodate them.

If they rated Banfield and Evans they would've made list spots for them. They didn't so they didn't make it to the rookie draft. Clearly Brisbane and Saints rated them higher. If Batman Barnett can save his career and Williams can turn into a decent forward it might be worth the tough call.
The signs are not there, especially as regards Barnett.

And we still have a skeleton crew of midfielders with few young ones and even less genuine midfielders.

Whats he saying? Justifying his f up?
It’s all down to order and where players fall. Simple as that.
Got asked about moving Cripps to the rookie list but never really gave a Better answer than his experience ..
With what we have brought it we should have just riissoled Cole…

Don’t seem all that keen to be using pick one in the rookie draft . More interested in train ons

Matt Clarke on with Scotty and goss now
Shouldn’t expect any less from Gossage and Cummings but that was typically lacking in analysis/scrutiny.

Problem is so many of these talking heads in the AFL media don’t understand the draft/trading rules or strategies so they lack the ability to ask questions that require a real considered response from the interviewee.

All the club knows best/que sera sera stuff in here is just astonishing. As if the club doesn't make mistakes repeatedly. Yes, it's all done and dusted, but no need to defend it.
Every draft pick is a gamble somewhat relative to the pick number. That's why a lot of us wanted Banfield & Evans. The potential talent is there and we could've gotten them for a bargain using 3rd to 5th round picks, or with a rookie spot if they slipped past the draft.
We could've at least been able to give it a consideration if we delisted Barnett and moved Cripps to the rookie list. Opposing either of the above is absurd imo. Barnett is barely WAFL quality and Cripps is possibly in his final year and should have had no issue with it. It doesn't affect his salary and eligibility to play AFL. Again, other clubs have done it, so why wouldn't we?
Barnett is not WAFL quality, barely WAFL reserves quality. Dead man walking as regards an AFL football career.

For draft watches. What happened with Fred R?

Why has he dropped so much? Seems like the perfect high half forward/mid with great skills. Has done nothing wrong all year.

Was his physicall testing so bad?
His 2km was good, can drive from the contest but lacks speed which is his main knock.

Given the athletic profiles of who we have drafted recently I’d be surprised if we took him or Greeves today, if we even use the pick.

Well todays rookie and pre season drafts are a tad more important than I thought.

Still some nice talent available.

BOB still there.
Rodreguez is my bet.
Onley
Greeves is a massive slider.......attitude and lack of pace?

Cat B Wes Walley, one small mercy.

And pundits said this was a weak draft. I think not. Having talent like this falling to the rookie draft proves it.
Hopefully, we can snare another good player today.

Let me get this right, even the apologists in this thread admit that not moving Cripps to the rookie list and matching Banfield was a mistake?

Very few (if any) posters are saying it was a mistake to run out of main list spots.

It was a deliberate choice to prioritize Cripps' feelings, Barnett's career, and Schoenberg's opportunity over giving Banfield a chance.

Majority of Eagles fans clearly think that's a terrible choice.

It's pretty clear this whole debacle has been discussed ad nauseum - fingers crossed on Fred/Ollie tonight
